My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Poppy is in urgent need of home she can call his own
Poppy up-date foster mom
;Poppy is a lovely and beautiful dog, who loves belly rubs, other dogs, playing and running, and being with her people. She absolutely loves water (of any kind) & swimming. A true water baby, webbed toes and all! She is still very much a puppy, so has lots of energy and loves to play. She seems to especially like squeaky tennis balls, , stuffed toys of any kind, and her knotted rope toy.
She is good in the car and travels well (sits nicely in the backseat), and is a very good protector (as with most Shepherds). She will bark at anything suspicious, and is very alert of her surroundings.

She loves other dogs and is quite good with them. As she is still a puppy, she loves to chase and run with them. She would do well with another young playful dog, as she does love to play and will try to get the other dog to play with her. Chasing and playing keep away seem to be favourites. She does like cats quite abit as well, but can be abit pushy in her approach (eg, sniffs a little too enthusiastically). She is mostly trying to get them to play with her, which not all cats appreciate. But she is good with them, and certainly not aggressive at all, just curious and playful. A dog savvy confident cat should do fine.

She is pretty good walking on the leash. While she still pulls abit, especially if she sees a jogger/bicyclist, or car, for the most part, she walks pretty well. When leashed, if you stand still for a few moments, perhaps talking to someone or waiting, she automatically just lies down by your feet. So even though she is still a bouncy puppy, she can have her calm moments relatively quickly.

Poppy is also VERY treat motivated, especially for hot dogs. She also loves peanut butter in her Kong, as well as ice water and chicken stock cubes. She has had some beginner obedience classes, which should be continued as she matures and learns to focus better. Since she is very food motivated, best to stick with obedience training that involves treats as a reward, such as in clicker training. At her first obedience class, at the end when asked if anyone had questions, one of the ladies there asked if she could trade her dog (young Doberman) for Poppy, who was laying down quietly at our feet. The ultimate compliment!

When she needs to go out, she will whine and circle, to let you know. She would love to have another brother or sister to play with or daily vist to the dog park . As soon as its bed time , she settles right down on her dog bed and goes to sleep. Sleeps all night very well (not crated).

Overall, she’s a great dog,
