My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

YADDO, CGC - Norwegian Elkhound, male, 12 years, ~55 lbs. Yaddo is a smart, sweet boy who loves a good snuggle. He is house trained, good on the leash and has good house manners. He has no problem being left during the day and will greet you enthusiastically when you return. He appreciates a walk and a treat, and has been losing weight since his foster family makes sure his walks are more numerous than his treats. He has begun taking thyroid meds which also helps. Yaddo likes to think he is the boss, but he easily lives in his foster home with a female dog who is smart enough to let him believe he is in charge. He may not be the right companion for all dogs though. But Yaddo is great with cats! As a senior, Yaddo has a few lumps and bumps in the form of fatty cysts, and does have some arthritis. The vet is not overly worried about them so Yaddo isn't either. They do mean he needs a few supplements and requires a bit more care as the cysts have to be monitored and kept clean. He takes his job as the official dog of Norway seriously and will happily announce the arrival of visitors, the mail man, or neighborhood dogs while outside, but is generally a quiet dog in the home, happy to nap and keep you company. The breed is known for protecting their home from moose, elk and bears, and the foster home is delighted to report that their home has been free from all those animals since Yaddo's arrival. Yaddo believes in old dogs learning new tricks, and has earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen)! A portion of his adoption fee is being sponsored by Pet Connection. Note: visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
