Additional adoption info

Because we think our rescued dogs have been through enough hell before we saved them we feel it is our duty to protect them going forward, for that purpose we require a completed and signed Adoption Application, we verify your information, do a Reference check, Require proof animals are permitted where you live, Conduct a home check and in-home interview, if approved for a meet and greet and all are in agreement you would be a good match, then a signed adoption and care contract and fee is required.
In addition, all pets adopted from us must be returned to us if you are unable to keep pet for any reason, this applies after one day, a week, a month or after 15 years, we do not want adopters taking pet to shelters, or re-homing pets themselves (we want to properly screen new home). We are not just adopting a pet to a good home, we are adding an adoptive family to our rescue family, We are here for you all, for the life of the pet, we welcome your updates, questions etc.

About Canine Protection League

We accept owner surrenders & save dogs from death row and other urgent situations. We especially love labradors, Standard Poodles, Giant Schnauzers, Doodles, Newfoundlands, mini schnauzers, Bostons, Bulldogs, Boxers, chihuahuas, Pomeranians and all breeds and mixes. We accept dogs into our program as finances and room in foster homes permits. All our dogs are given full vet exams, neutered/spayed , Vaccinated, Tested and treated for parasites, groomed, micro-chipped, and put on flea, tick and heart worm preventative. Our foster home volunteers work to get each dog crate trained, housebroken, recovered from past life traumas and teach social and home skills.

We Match the individual dogs personality, energy level and other needs to the what applicant has to offer, and we place dogs with the home we feel is best match for the dog.
Our primary concern is the well being of the pets taken into our care, sometimes a person is approved to adopt- but we might suggest a pet more suited to their attributes... Rather then do a mis-match that may result in dog being returned to rescue for not "fitting in".

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Wilmington, VT.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
