Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Abby is a stunning Rottweiler that is estimated to be 2 1/2 years old and weighs 65lbs.  Abby and her puppies were surrendered to a rural shelter in August 2023 when the puppies were only 4 weeks old. Animal control did a welfare check and found Abby living outside in a pen with a huge sore around her neck from an embedded collar and the owners were unable to afford her medical care. One of our volunteers wanted to help immediately and agreed to foster Abby and her puppies. All of Abby's puppies have since been adopted, but it was clear that Abby had never been properly socialized or received any kind of training. She did great with her original foster with house manners and was friendly with people, but she lacked confidence and wasn't sure how to play, walk, or interact around other dogs. BFPA decided it would be best to send her to an eight-week positive reinforcement training program to help develop her confidence and learn how to be a "dog". We are happy to report that she did amazing in training and is ready for adoption! Feedback from her training is that Abby is loyal, loving, and eager to please. Her willingness to make her handler happy is unmatched. Abby has great recall, offers sits for permission and has done great with strangers in and out of the home. She is very food and treat motivated and takes treats gently and respectfully. She loves to work for her food! Abby has been conditioned to her crate and all she needs to do to be told "kennel up" with a finger point to the crate and she goes in. She sometimes can get stressed for being crated for long periods of time, so a home that doesn't have long working hours would be best for her. Abby's ideal home would also have a fenced in yard (but not required), a foster/ adopter that is willing to continue with her training which BFPA will help with, and no other pets. Abby is dog selective and seems to tolerate calm dogs her size or smaller, but she doesn't really show any interest in wanting to interact. Dogs that are higher energy, barky, or ones that show signs of anxiety/ nervousness tend to cause her to react. If there is another dog(s) in the home, we would have to evaluate if they are a good fit and be with someone that is experienced with dog behavior. Abby was tested with a kitty early on. While she wasn't aggressive with the cat, she did seem overly interested and we would need to make sure there was a way to keep the cat(s) separate until trusted. Abby has also lived with kids and would be ok with older children 12+ that are able to respect boundaries. Do you have the right home for Abby?  She wants to be part of a loving  family.  She has come a long way from her miserable life before Best Friend Pet Adoption saved her.  Could you provide a wonderful life for Abby?  She will give you plenty of love in return.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants ideally should  live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. We would also like to provide assistance in her training which would occur in the Raleigh area.  For the right match for Abby, we will consider applicants who live a bit further away.  INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ABBY? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Delilah is around 3-4 months old.  She weighs 15 lbs and might be around 45-50 lbs when fully grown. She is a cute little fur ball who looks to be a shepherd mix.     She has been in a foster home with her siblings and loves to play. She loves our dog Issac and would really enjoy the company of another submissive dog but would do fine as an only dog with humans who would play with her and exercise her.  She loves all people and dogs and is great meeting dogs in our neighborhood. Her previous foster home had a cat, and she did well with it.  She absolutely adores my 5-year-old grandson and plays with him without all the puppy biting.  She is a very outgoing friendly puppy who is looking for her forever home.       Delilah would prefer a fenced in yard. She is outside a lot. She LOVES to be outside with a lot of play time. She is definitely afraid of loud noises. Especially motorcycles, loud trucks and fireworks. When she’s outside in the yard and hears a loud noise, she comes running inside.       Delilah is working on housetraining and doing very well, she is smart and catches on very quicky. She goes to the door when she has to go out. She hasn’t had any accidents recently. But we still take her out every hour until she is fully housebroken. She sleeps all night in her crate with no accidents. She is very food motivated so training her is not hard.   Delilah is still a puppy so she needs to be watched constantly.  Since she is puppy, she should not be crated for 8+ hours a day while her family works away from home.  Once she’s fully trained and can be trusted, then that would be ok as long as owner gives her a potty break during the day, if they work full time.    Delilah is very smart, mostly quiet dog. She catches on very quickly to commands. She is very loving. She is a delight to have around our family. She is sassy in a good way with so much personality. She is crate trained and is great in the crate.  Please consider giving this sweet girl a wonderful home filled with love.  She will give that love right back to you!            If you are looking for a new puppy to brighten your day?   Delilah might be just the girl for you. Please submit a Best Friend Pet Adoption application at this link.      https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC .                         Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized  after they are altered at 5-6 months old.    Adopters must be willing to bring the puppy to the Raleigh area for all medical care needed.  F oster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING DELILAH? Best Friend Pet Adoption and another shelter rescued all the puppies. We took three puppies and bottle fed them.  They are now healthy,  growing quickly   and looking for their forever homes.    Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Patrick requires an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered for adoption.   Applicants must live no further than one hour from Raleigh/Cary NC. You must be willing to bring Patrick to a BFPA veterinarian in the Raleigh/ Cary area for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Adoptions are not finalized until Patrick is neutered at 5-6 months of age.  Best Friend Pet Adoption pays for all medical care until he is finalized.  INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PATRICK ?
