Story
Meet Amaya! This beautiful 3.5 year old border collie mix is as sweet and soulful as they come, with a sad origin story. When she was just a few months old, Amaya was homeless and wandered onto a large industrial lot in south LA with another pup friend. Sadly that friend was soon hit by a truck and died, leaving Amaya alone to fend for herself for about 8 months. Some mean people tormented Amaya by trying to scare her and chase her away, leaving her terrified of humans. There were a few kind souls who would leave her food and tried to befriend her, but due to her past experiences, Amaya was too afraid and would just run away. RFTH was brought in to help and after several attempts, we were able to rescue her and bring her to safety. Thus began her rehab journey. Through our other dogs, we were able to show Amaya that our intentions were pure and we would never hurt her. And dog friends have proven to be the key to helping Amaya heal and learn to trust. She absolutely LOVES other playful, well-balanced dogs and having at least one to follow is critical to her continued rehab. Amaya is incredibly shy when she first meets people and needs a patient and experienced parent who’s eager to be part of the rehabbing process. Once she knows you, she LOVES to give kisses, sit for treats and catch food flying thru the air. We believe she would enjoy continuing to learn tricks and different ways to please her person. Amaya is quite a squirrel chaser and can spend hours protecting the yard from a possible invasion by them or any other imminent threats- like leaves falling from a tree. Going for walks is one of Amaya’s favorite things to do and she is an absolute dream on leash. She’s learning to go on other forms of adventure and would benefit from a human that would enjoy continuing to help her thru new experiences. Amaya’s breed has strong herding tendencies and therefore she thinks it’s her job to keep the pack in line (though she really would prefer not to). Because of this she needs another dog that is a leader, is confident and well-balanced, and that she doesn’t feel she needs to correct. And another dog that is playful with her and brings out her inner puppy would be her absolute dream. If you live in Los Angeles or surrounding areas, have another well balanced playful dog, a safe yard and a lot of love/patience to give, please visit our website to apply to adopt Amaya: www.rescuefromthehart.org/adopt We are volunteer based and will do our best to get back to you within 72 hours. Please do not call as our phone is intended for emergencies only. If we feel that one of our dogs is a good match we will set up a private meet and greet We do not have a physical location where you can come and meet all the dogs at once, so meet and greets may take a little time to coordinate. Our requested adoption donation is $350 and all adopters are required to fill out an adoption agreement.

Story
Meet Snoop a beautiful loving young playful Border collie/Lab mix. As you can see in the photo he has a softer jaw and head so he isn't intimidating. Snoop is such a beautiful 10 month old black w white mix and as you can see by his photo he is good with other adult dogs. He is a smart guy and if you are one who is good at teaching tricks, bull breeds learn quickly...this breed is eager to learn tricks so just work with him daily on them. You like to hike and not worry about passing other dogs on a tight trail? Snoop is friendly so you will just need to keep him close and not worry about him being aggressive. Are you a jogger and also love to walk? What better breed to run with but a full of energy Border collie/lab mix who will challenge you running and push you harder. Snoop has had his shots and is neutered so what better guy to adopt than Snoop, you will fall in love with such a sweet fun boy. Adopt a well trained Snoop you will not regret your choice. Story
We rescued Maggie along with several others from a shelter in Mexico that was shutting down and planning to euthanize any remaining dogs. Maggie's right hind leg has an old injury that healed incorrectly. We were told that she got hit by a car and laid on the side of the road for 3 days before someone helped her. We brought Maggie to two different vets who agreed that surgery or amputation is risky and could not guarantee a better quality of life. Maggie is extremely happy and getting stronger every day. We have elected to do physical therapy to help continue to strengthen her hind legs and give her more range of motion. We have purchased her a package of 8 physical therapy sessions, which she could complete in her forever home. Maggie is a happy young dog who just loves to hang out with her people, go on walks, and play with her toys and other dogs. Her favorite activity is eating snacks, and her fosters have made a game for her out of hiding treats around the house and letting her sniff them out! Maggie is potty trained and non-destructive. She has had lots of interactions with small children and is so patient and gentle with them! We can't wait for Maggie to find her family! She is a special dog with slightly special needs but can go on walks, play, and cuddle just like the best of them! You will instantly fall in love when you meet her.
