Story
My name is Xolo, I’m an almost 3 year old boxer mix who was born in a shelter in Mexico and have spent my whole life there with all of my siblings and 60 other dogs so I’m more comfortable with dogs than with people. I would do best in a home with only women as men's voices and presence scare me. But that’s my past, let me tell you about my present! I currently live in a Foster home with two other dogs and have lived with a few others as well. I’m great with other dogs and am Extremely submissive, but if the dog is smaller than me, they need to put me in my place, or I can try to push my limits with them. I’m looking for someone to help me get over my severe fear of people; if I know and trust you, I’m putty in your hands, but if you’re new to me you’re automatically scary. I’m still uncomfortable with the man I live with and would do best in a home with only women if possible. I shouldn’t be in a home with any children as I’m terrified of people in general, but children and their unpredictability in particular. I’m known as being the joker of the house and they call me Mr. Wiggle Butt sometimes; can you guess why? I’m smiling all of the time and I can wag my tail from side to side, ambidextrously, or like a helicopter. I’m exceptionally intelligent and have picked up many tricks quickly and in a short amount of time. I need to live with other animals; dogs in particular, but I can live with cats as well. I would like to live with a dog that can teach me the ropes and show me that humans aren’t so bad after all; like my very own support dog. I’m skittish at first, so I need to be in a home with a securely fenced yard, as you may not be able to touch me much in the beginning. I do best wearing a harness and leash at all times at first, so that you can get a hold of me without having to chase me. I’m looking for a family that has the patience to give me the time to come out of my shell, but also push me outside of my comfort zone. I love taking walks and that helps me trust you, but I need to be walked with a harness and double leashed; to be sure I can’t get away, even if I become terrified. I love to play a game my foster Mom calls “Got your nose”; but in my version I will put your entire nose in my mouth lol. I loooooooove giving kisses, I’ll lick your hand, face, feet, pants, socks, you name it, I have been told I have very limited personal boundaries. I also like to “boop” you with my snout and sometimes you may be startled with a boop in your behind, because that’s how I say “hi, I’m happy to see you, pay attention to me”. Sometimes a dog takes a little more time to open up, you may see them showing more and more of their personality over the course of the first few days, weeks or even months! We don’t know all that they’ve been through before they were rescued, but they are so forgiving and full of love and it’s worth every tough moment in the end. Developing a trusting relationship with your rescue dog is the most important thing. Stability, patience, positive reinforcement and love are the most important things! All of our rescue dogs are vaccinated, sterilized, microchipped and de-wormed.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. POPPERS was saved from a kill shelter in Georgia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 30 October 2023. POPPERS is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped with 24PetWatch. He has an estimated date of birth of January 2023 and on has an estimated weight of 33 pounds. We have no way of knowing the breed, it is up to individuals to look at the pictures and videos to make up their own mind. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue      YouTube channel      and      photo albums on our Facebook page      to see a LOT of pictures and videos. POPPERS is an absolute sweetheart, brimming with affection and love with the sweetest, gentle "old soul" type personality. He can come across like a couch potato but he loves to run and wrestle with his friends. When he was in the kennels he did gain some weight, which now he is more active he is losing them - but it is important for his family to be aware to keep him active to keep those dangerous pounds off. POPPERS is a top favourite with everyone he meets. He is a hard chewer of toys and anything other than tough chewing toys he will destroy - red kongs are like scooby snacks to him lol He has been around adults of all ages, shapes and sizes, small children and people with special needs and was gentle and loving.  He is responsive and is happy to show anyone he meets lots of love. He does need an active family who will ensure he gets all the exercise, both mentally and physically that he needs to live a happy fulfilling life. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. POPPERS is located at the rescue in Sebec Maine and is available for a  reduced adoption  fee of $250. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application. https://giveadogahome-rescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=5838 HOUSE TRAINED - All of our dogs are located in the kennel building so we are not able to say if a dog is house-trained, however, they do have access and use the dog door to access their run, play area 24/7. FOOD - We feed a variety of high quality brands and flavors including, chicken, turkey, beef, lamb and fish generally alternated daily. CATS - As the dogs are in the kennels, we are not able to say how they are with cats.
