Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Leia. Leia is a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix weighing 28 kgs. She has a medium hair coat and is 2 years old. Leia was an owner surrender. Leia is a very sweet girl. She came from a family with 3 very young children and no other dog in the home. The family spent thousands of dollars on her trying to determine the cause of her diarrhea. She definitely has a protein allergy and what we discovered once she entered our Rescue is that she loves other dogs, and enjoys not having children around. Her previous home was just not the right fit for her. They loved her so much but were very worried that her diarrhea was not giving her the quality of life she should have. She has been kept on the Purina Veterinarian HP Vegetarian Food with other proteins allowed in her diet. She is no longer on the anxiety meds she was on previously and her stools are always solid. She now is able to retain all the nutrients in her food and has gained 5lbs.   Her previous family did a wonderful job taking her to training and she knows all her basic commands. She takes vegetarian treats gently from your hands and eats 5 cups of food a day. Leia was very good with the children in the home but we believe the dynamic was just too busy for her. She is housebroken and sleeps either on a doggy bed or the couch at night time. She does very well with all dogs and enjoys playing with them and their companionship. Typical of the Catahoula breed, Leia has one eye that is half blue and half brown. She is now at her ideal weight and is quite tall as she has long legs. She is a gentle gal who loves hugs and giving gentle kisses. Leia has a very high prey drive. She could never be off-leash in an unfenced area due to her prey drive. She does pull on a lead due to her prey drive so she will require more work on walking with a lead and body harness. She rides in the car not badly but wants to be close to the family in the front if no one is in the back with her. The ideal home for Leia is a quiet one with another dog. The dog could be a companion or a playmate. If there are children in the home, it would be best if they were older so as not to stress her. Leia is spayed, up to date with vaccines, dewormed, 4dx tested negative. She requires to be kept on for life the Purina Veterinarian HP Vegetarian Diet with no other types of food allowed. A cat free home and another socialized resident canine, a fully fenced backyard, made of wood being a minimum of 6 feet high and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for our Leia.

Story
Star was rescued in Louisiana. A lady that found her called me and said that she could not find a rescue group in Louisiana to take her. She had a gunshot wound through her jaw and ear. She was in pain. She brought her to me in Mississippi, and I got her the medical treatment that she needed. She had jaw surgery, and now her tongue permanently hangs out. We think this makes her uniquely special!! I know that her tongue hanging out may be a deterrent for a permanent home, but Star is such a sweet baby. She cannot help it that somebody shot her. She is a Catahoula hound, and her tail is docked. Star is a very sweet and loves to ride in the car. She loves dogs, and she loves children. She loves to roll over for a belly rub, and she knows the sit command. She is extremely smart. She loves to load up and ride in the car, and I believe that she was somebody’s baby at one time! Also, if you live out of state we use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We alternate between the Northeast and the Midwest every other weekend.
