Meet Peanut, your future best friend! This adorable male chihuahua mix pup is 2 years old and weighs 16 lbs. He is a certified love bug: super cuddly and affectionate. He is house trained and does well in the crate and on leash. He gets along well with the senior dog at his foster home and even tolerates two cats (isn’t reactive at all, but scared of them). He is very anxious around new people or pets so he is looking for a patient home that can provide the time and love he needs to adjust. He will also do best in a home with no kids (they make him very nervous). Currently he’s working on understanding basic commands, socializing and curbing the urge to run away.

ChiChi is a ten year old chihuahua/rat terrier mix with special needs.  She may be older, but she is very feisty and spunky.  She has a big personality and warms up to her humans quickly! She likes to play with the other dogs but is perfectly content sitting on her human’s lap and watching TV.  She is potty trained and crate trained, would be great with other dogs or would be fine as an only dog as long as she doesn’t have too much alone time.  She has medial patella luxation, but due to her age, the vet doesn’t recommend surgery. She often walks bow-legged, but it doesn’t slow her down.  She also has a salivary gland disorder but doesn’t currently require treatment. It does result in occasional coughing. ##1843073##

Meet Charlie Chaplin! Charlie is a two to four-year-old adorable Chiweenie. He’s about 13 pounds and absolutely the sweetest boy. He loves to be around his people and if he can’t sit on your lap or beside you on the sofa, he will be at your feet. It doesn’t take much to win Charlie’s heart, a treat, and a kind word will do it every time. Charlie has gotten along with all the dogs he’s met and has done well with the cat as well. We think he will do well with children as well. Charlie walks well on a leash, but hasn’t had much practice lately. He is also doing very well on his health training, he will let you know when it’s time to go out, although he has had a few accidents and his foster home. Charlie had bloodwork at his vet visit, but he didn’t need a dental cleaning. His teeth looked so good. Interested in becoming a forever home for Charlie Chaplin? Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Sweet senior Gilligan needs a family to love him the way he deserves! He was abandoned on the side of the road as so many dogs are in our state.  If you're looking for a small, senior dog to love the rest of its life with few needs of his own, Gilligan is the man for you Get to know him directly from his foster below! "Gilligan is such an old man. He finds a nice warm place and hunkers down for hours on end, snoozing away. He sleeps through chaos like a champ, and cuddles up in bed at night. He is more of a free feeder, he does fine with dry dog kibble but he absolutely LOVES to sneak into the cat room and steal their wet food. Anytime we’ve done any additives to their food (wet dog food, gravy, bacon grease, homemade treats, etc.) he really chows down.  When the weather is nice, he love love loves to sit out and sun bathe. If allowed, he will sit out on the porch in the sun for hours on end, just a snoozing. He is amazing at taking his meds (standard preventatives) and rarely has accidents. He tends to be a barker when he wants something… like a door opened, to be picked up and put in bed, when he gets himself stuck in a the cat room…  He is also an opportunist when it comes to escape. If taken outside without a leash, he stays close and tends to follow just fine. If the gate gets blown open, and he is outside, he will slowly meander is way across the neighborhood, stopping at every porch on the way. He doesn’t run from us (unless, sometimes, when we are trying to get him in the kennel) but he will gladly pretend that he doesn’t hear us if he’s discovered a potential adventure.   Overall, Gilligan is a very happy, very easy going guy. He is easily satisfied and loves to cuddle up in front of a cozy fire or under the sheets in bed. He’s very good at flying under the radar in a multi pet home, and is the most well behaved out of all of our babes. He’s the grandpa that just sits on his rocker quietly while all the family plays and socializes around him. He is just as content on his own as he is with others." Once comfortable, they are pretty funny. Both are crate trained. Sid is doggie door trained & enjoys running & sunning on nice days. Meet Gina! Do you like small dogs and projects? Gina is small, she weighs only 5lbs. Gina is a project; the project is to make her love you. She came from a home with a lot of dogs and they were not socialized well. She is sweet, quiet, calm, and pretty low maintenance. She's about 5-7 years old, had some pretty severe dental disease which we took care of, and she lost quite a few teeth. She settled nicely into her foster home and has joined in the routine of the other dogs in the home. She follows her foster mom around but still prefers to stay just out of reach. She is completely potty trained as long as she is taken outside, or given a potty pad indoors. This took work as the foster mom had to corral and corner her to be able to pick her up until she trusted the situation enough to go in and out the doors on her own. When she moves to her new home, she will need to be on a leash until she gets the routine down. No apartments or houses without a secure fence, please. She will do best in a quiet home without a lot of activity. We call her a dog's dog. She is a wonderful snuggle buddy with the other chihuahua in her foster home and really needs to be adopted into a home with a small dog that will help her continue with her socialization and one that wants a little buddy. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, tested negative for heartworms (adults), microchipped, dewormed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. I want you to meet Risa. This cutie is 6 years old and 11 lbs.  She is smaller than she looks, and 100 times cuter in person than she is in photos. Risa is housebroken, and will use the pee pad if needed. She is great with the other small dogs in her foster home and would prefer a playmate in her forever home. She is a mama dog, and can come on a little bossy at first meeting, but she will be a great companion for your little furbaby. She is also good with respectful children over 10 years old. She would prefer a home without cats, large dogs or small children. She must be fed separetly from other dogs, and does not know how to share bones with other dogs, so its important to give those separetly too. Risa came to us extremely pregnant, then gave birth to 5 puppies.  After raising her puppies, she had to also undergo heartworm treatment , so she has been through a lot, but she in now happy, healthy, any ready to find her forever home!! Please no out of state applications or apartments. Risa requires a home with securely fenced yard (I can not stress this enough).
