Story
ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)     4m old Jerry  from Puerto Rico. All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.     Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there) Twitter: zanisff  Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application  Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.   Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website zanisfurryfriends.org.

Story
This little boy we think looks like a dachshund mix, He is approx 4 yrs and 18 lbs. He overall is a good dog. He does love love to run and play but since he does not like to share his food and can play rough, we feel he would be best as an only dog. He will follow his foster everywhere and will sit at her feet when she is sitting down, he walks well on a leash and likes going on walks and riding in the car , his tail is always wagging He takes a while to warm up to new people, but is your best friend once he does. He LOVES to eat so is very food motivated. He seems to be pretty well house trained and is very smart he learns very quickly and would love a home with someone who can take him on walks . He did have heartworms when we rescued him and has been treated with the injections per the American heartworm Society , we usually find the dogs test clear in approx 4- 6 months. He has been started on monthly heartguard and nexguard and will need to stay on them for life (as should all dogs) He has a condition that is sometimes found in tri-color dogs and prevents the black hair from growing , it’s usually a genetic condition and means that the black portions of his coat are smooth - it is called black hair follicular dysplasia - He doesn’t need meds or any vets care it’s just the way he is OUR RESCUE POLICY - It is our rescue policy for all our dogs that we require a home with no children under the age of 12, and experienced dog owners only. WE REQUIRE VET RECORDS ON YOUR CURRENT OR PAST DOG FOR OUR REVIEW. RECORDS MUST SHOW THE POTENTIAL ADOPTER AS THE OWNER The total adoption fee of $600 ( and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, distemper and canine influenza, and microchip. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. We also provide a free wellness visit to the South Wilton Vet group if convenient for you. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. Our application is online at https://www.houstonshaggydogrescue.org/apply/

Story
Griffie was adopted from the Elmore County, AL shelter as a pup and spent all her nine years with her owner who loved and treated her well. When her owner entered assisted living about a month ago, Griffie was returned to the shelter. We noticed her looking sad in her shelter pics and asked if we could help. Griffie is a wonderful dog! She is a Dachshund mix about 9 years old, weighing about 40 lbs. (needing to lose a few) and short, in deference to her Dachshund side! She takes no medicine and has no mobility problems. She is spayed and heartworm negative. Griffie is an easy dog to be with and appreciates any kindness or attention, loving to be petted. She gets along fine with other dogs, is not a barker, and walks along nicely on a leash. When Griffie looks at you with her huge expressive eyes, she grabs your heart. Because she looked so sad and dejected at the kennel in our vet's clinic, the groomer gave her a bath and a blow-dry, and Griffie loved it!! She also perked up when a vet tech's 9-year-old nephew visited. She brightened up and came right to him, tail wagging, showing how much she likes kids. To get Griffie out of the kennel environment that was depressing her, she was moved to a foster home that has cats, dogs, and a human youngster. Griffie was a dream riding in the car then settled right in. She is not bothered by the cats or dogs there and quickly appeared very happy and content. Her foster says, "Griffie is super sweet! I can't find anything wrong with her! She is going to be a great companion for someone!" It is obvious that Griffie had a comfortable, happy life before her world fell apart. If you would like a nice companion dog on the smaller side who will be so pleased to be with you, inside or on leisurely walks, please consider Griffie. It will be a win-win! Griffie is now in a foster home in the northeast and ready to meet you! Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If you would like to be part of Griffie's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Candy to be considered to adopt Griffie. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. SGRR ADOPTION FEES - Effective May 1, 2020 (subject to change) $750 Puppy - up to 6 months $650 Young 6 months - 6 years $550 Senior 7 - 9 years $450 Senior 10 years and older $550 Young Special Needs $400 Senior 7+ Special Needs $1000 Young Bonded Pair $900 Senior 7+ Bonded Pair A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
