Story
Meet Maven !! This beautiful puppy came to us from a shelter. She was terrified and shut down. She is still very shy but it starting to come out of her shell. She needs a family that is willing to give her time and help her build up her confidence. Maven is a female Doberman mix. She is approx. 6 months old. She currently weighs 33 Pounds. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of her adoption. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. Maven has been great with other dogs. She really needs another dog in the home to help her feel safe. She uses the other dogs to help her when she is afraid and to help her see there is nothing to fear when dealing with new situations. We do not know how she would do with cats. She is crate trained and likes to have her crate as a safe place to retreat to if things get overwhelming for her. She is good in the car but is still a bit uneasy on rides. She won’t be immediately good on the leash as she has to build up trust with you first. Once she is more comfortable with you and your home, she does fairly well with it. She is doing better with potty training but does still have some accidents. During the first week or so in your home as she is learning to feel safe there will likely be many more accidents. The safer and more comfortable she gets the better she is with the routine. Maven is extremely smart. Her breed is known for this. She loves toys and is learning how to play with people. She will need a family willing to keep her mind and body busy. She only has a medium energy level at the moment but we fully expect her to be much more energetic once she feels more confident. She loved having another dog to play with and she takes corrections from other dogs during play very well. She did chew some things she shouldn’t the first few days in her foster home but it seemed to be more from nerves. After a few days she has no longer continued that behavior. If not fully exercised or mentally stimulated she would likely start having undesirable behavior issues in the home. A tired dog is a happy and well-behaved dog! She would be best with older children. She is fostered with kids however they are very respectful of her space. She needs to be left alone when she is afraid. She is also not a dog that likes a lot of chaos and being chased etc. She will try to flee and will also growl if cornered and scared. If you push it past that she will nip at you. This can be avoided by giving her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable with you. If you do that, she becomes very easy to handle in the home. Unfortunately, young children cannot reliably understand this and that is why she needs a home with older kids. She has not shown any food, toy or treat aggression with humans or other dogs. She shares very well. Maven is looking for a family that understands she will need some time and work to build up her confidence. This breed is truly amazing and so loyal. If you are dedicated to putting in the work to help her through her fear you will end up with the most amazing and loyal companion. Adopting a Doberman is a huge responsibility. These are strong intelligent dogs. It is absolutely essential that you properly train and socialize them with other animals and people throughout their lives. They need a strong and knowledgeable owner. This is not a breed for a first-time dog owner. Unfortunately, this breed has a stereotype of being aggressive or scary. By adopting one you need to understand this and ensure your Dobie is an ambassador for the breed and always well trained and under your control at all times. These dogs can be the absolute most loyal and loving family dogs you’ve ever owned. The way they turn out is largely based on the effort you put into them with training and socialization. If you’re not fully willing and committed to do this then it’s not the breed for you. 🛑These dogs are banned from almost all rentals (to include most vacation rentals) AND banned from many homeowners insurance policies. Do not apply to adopt if you have not called and verified with your landlord and/or insurance company that you can own one. 🛑 Vet and home checks required. Fence yard required 6ft or higher (she can easily jump a 4ft fence) Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Kismet, a beautiful and sleek 1-year old black/tan, cropped male Doberman who is eagerly awaiting his forever home. Kismet is a quick learner and responds well to positive training experiences. Kismet is very smart and curious. Weird fact- Kismet likes to take showers and will stand nicely inside the shower while getting his beauty treatments. He loves to be hugged and petted and has the potential to form a deep bond with his human. Kismet also carries a tender vulnerability, navigating the world with some insecurity that will require understanding and patience from his potential adopter. While Kismet may initially be cautious in new situations and with new people, his sweet nature shines through as he gradually acclimates. Positive reinforcement and gentle guidance will be crucial in helping Kismet feel secure in his surroundings. A calm and consistent approach to training, combined with plenty of reassurance and love, will help him flourish and overcome his past. Kismet will do best in an adult only household. It's important to note that Kismet is still very much a puppy and so is not yet trained. He is working on his basic commands and house training. Kismet’s adopter should be prepared to invest time and effort into training, starting with the fundamentals. He will benefit greatly from the guidance and structure that consistent training provides. He is good with cats and could be ok with another dog with proper introduction. Kismet will be best in an adult only household. If you are ready to open your heart and home to a handsome young boy who needs a little extra support, consider giving this beautiful boy the loving home he deserves and be rewarded by watching him grow to his potential. Kismet is being fostered in MD. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Letty is an amazing dog and the best cuddler I have had her for 1 month and it is very hard to make this post, but she doesn't get along with other dogs/cats. I was told differently when adopting her. My girlfriend and I currently have a 11 y/o small dog and she doesn't do well with him or other dogs that have been introduced. Im making this post in hopes for her to find a home where she can be the only animal and make the right person happy and be the dog that I know she can be. She is a very energetic dog and loves to run and chase tennis balls so she would definitely need someone who is active or someone who has a decent sized yard. She is a perfect dog house wise she loves to cuddle and sleep and also watch tv. I hope the right person reads this and you fall in love with her through a screen just like we did.
