Story
Bella is an almost 2 year old Doberman Pinscher recovering from sock removal surgery. During the surgery to remove the sock, the doctor found that she was born with only 1 kidney! Future adopters will have to make sure Bella doesn't have access to the hamper and will have to be prepared to take her in for yearly vet checks to monitor kidney function. As of now her kidneys are functioning just fine!About Bella: she's a super sweet girl who is looking for the perfect family to love and spoil her! She's an outgoing girl who gets along great with her foster siblings, a german shepherd, a kitten, and JR's adoptable cat Teenie. She also lived with a 4 year old in her previous home so she's considered kid friendly as well! She loves affection and to snuggle! She rides well in the car and is in the process of perfecting how to walk on a leash without pulling. As an added bonus, she's already potty trained! She can be vocal when she's left alone so apartments are not recommended for this girl. Here's her surgery journey:Bella was brought in by her owners to VCA Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals over Easter weekend. Her owners stated that she vomited up a sock 3 days prior to presenting to the hospital and has been vomiting and unable to keep food down since. Radiographs were done and it was evident that Bella ingested a second sock which had made its way into the intestines and was causing a bowel obstruction. It was definite that surgery had to be performed that same night which left Bella's owners with limited options. While unable to pay for the emergency surgery and in order to avoid euthanasia, Bella's owners made the brave decision to surrender her to JR's Pups-N-Stuff. Even though our little rescue with a big heart has a new facility that needs remodeling, a van that needs fixing, and other outstanding vet bills, our director couldn't say no to helping sweet Bella. With the green light from JR's the amazing staff at VCA MECA was able to get Bella into surgery right away and remove the sock!4/3 update: Bella is recovering well from her sock removal surgery so far! However, during exploration of her abdomen, it was found that she was born with only one kidney. The left kidney is present and 4 times the normal size! At this time her kidney values and functioning appears normal so the doctors don't see a reason she cant live a wonderful life with her future family. Adopters will just need to have her monitored with yearly kidney checks with a veterinarian. She spent some time recovering in the ICU at VCA MECA. The staff took phenomenal care of her! She had an IV drip for fluids and pain medications as well as antibiotics. She was stable enough to temporarily get disconnected from her fluids and walk outside which was a great sign. She was still pretty groggy from the medications and didn't want to eat while in hospital at first, even when her future foster Krysta brought in some chicken breast. At a later visit she ate some chicken and was able to be discharged with some oral antibiotics and pain medications. We're looking forward to how she does in her new foster home with foster mom Krysta, her dog Kida, kitten Mabel, and JR's foster cat Teenie!4/5 update: Bella has transitioned to her foster home and continues to recover well after her sock removal surgery and ER hospital stay. She gets along great with her foster siblings. She is eating, not experiencing any vomiting, and taking her medications well! This girl is sweet as can be, loves to snuggle, and I find it adorable that she insists on being covered with a blanket when she sleeps. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.I am Miss Jade.  When first coming to the rescue I needed time to decompress from a bad situation, but I am now learning to trust humans more and more.  Since my time with my foster momma I have blossomed into a really nice lady and everyday I get better and better.  I still am very shy until I get to know you a little better and then beware, I will always be in your lap!!  Because of my prior abuse situation, I am not good around other dogs or cats and would do best in a home with a woman/women(unfortunately we cannot put Jade in a home with any men).  As far as training, I know the basics but would love to learn more, I am really good in the house alone and non-destructive.  I love to run in wide open spaces but a dog park at this time would not be good for me.  I hope you would consider me even though I have to be an only pet and give me the loving home I deserve! I truly am a sweetheart..... Adoption Fee for Jade:  $400.00 which includes spay or neuter, microchipping and all up to date vetting.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 15, 2024, 11:08 am
