I'm available for adoption at ACC's Pop-Up Event on:Saturday, January 17 | 12pm - 4pmACC Bronx Resource Center464 E Fordham Rd, Bronx, NY 10458 Adoptions are in-person and first come, first served, so make sure to get there early. You can apply for me now, but it will not put me on hold for you. I can't wait to meet you!My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children.I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.What my friends at ACC say about me:Hazelnut was lying down in the den with a neutral body and eyes when removing the den cover. He sniffs treats offered and welcomes petting on the head. He slightly leans in for cheek rubs and then he steps back and tenses up a little bit when stroking his body. When applying gentle upward pressure on his side and chest, lifting him up to the ceiling of the den, he remains tense and lip licks. After placing him back down, he continues to tolerate more petting and cheek rubs. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 10.8 Age: 4yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
CURRENTLY UPDATED! Please meet GAYLOR - A Big-hearted Loverboy!! This beautiful boy was found in a community garden striving for food and looking for shelter to be safe from the harsh and cruel environment he endured. Of course without hesitation we took this sweet boy off the street. We can only guess that he lost his home in a very young age, as he settled into his foster home with a bit caution, but it became very quickly apparent that behind his hesitation, a beautiful gentle furry companion was waiting to come out of his shell. At first, GAYLOR was only peaking around at night time to check out his foster home and particular his sleeping human rescue until he took his heart in his paws 😻 and jumped on the bed right next to her. Since then he displayed more and more his confidence but also his tender side and affection and insists on his "reserved " nightly spot right in the arms of his foster mom. GAYLOR continues to sparkle full of affection, by following his human around and can't wait until she sits down so he can snuggle in right next to her giving head butts under deep satisfying purrs. Often he secured his position by putting his big paws on her lap tomake sure tht she does not move away - so make room for a "purrfect snuggler! But GAYLOR has also a playful personality, batting his toys around chasing feather or strings during playtime. He loves to hang out with his foster siblings, so would be a PURRFECT companion for a residential kitty that is laid back and not too dominant GAYLOR is fully vetted including microchip with a clean bill of health and ready to go to his forever home that showers him with love, attention and most of all snuggle and cuddle time. Come and meet this handsome and gorgeous boy with his giant gentle soul, more beautiful in life than pictures can tell! Story
A volunteer writes:Delicate and beautiful, 3-year-old Zofia is a petite tuxedo girl with semi-long, silky fur who weighs less than 6 pounds. This pretty lady was found at the entrance of a nearby highway and brought to safety at the Manhattan Care Center, where her journey to trust began.Understandably shaken and nervous at first, Zofia has made remarkable progress. With regular meals, a safe cubby of her own, and gentle words from caring visitors, she's learning to relax. She now grooms her shiny coat peacefully and accepts petting, slowly opening her heart to human kindness.Zofia's past remains a mystery, but she bears the marks of hardship-having survived unknown time on the streets and lost function in her left eye due to past trauma or infection. Despite everything she's endured, this gentle soul is finding her way back to feeling safe. While Zofia may be cautious rather than outgoing, she has so much love to give to the right person. A quiet, patient home is all she needs to blossom into the trusting companion she's meant to be. Zofia has been through so much, she deserves a home sweet home where she can finally feel secure and cherished.Zofia is laying curled up in the back of her cubby, head up and observing the assessor with neutral eyes as they approach and open the cubby door. She is not able to be coaxed to the front of the kennel, but she does begin slow blinking and making soft eye contact with the assessor as she is spoken to. Zofia allows all petting, leaning in and closing her eyes when she is pet on the head and cheeks. Zofia remains at the back of the cubby, so full pickup is unable to be attempted, but she allows the assessor to apply light pressure the sides of her abdomen and under her chest without issue. Zofia tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 5.8 Age: 3yrs 0mths 2wks

Story
What my friends at ACC say about me:I have lived with cats in my previous home.I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I am looking for a home with a patient person.Figgie Jam tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.A volunteer writes: Figgie Jam's a little kitten with big feelings and we want to hear them all, but he's waiting for the right person to share them with. Figgie Jam was huddled in the corner of his cubby when I visited and pressed himself against the wall to make himself even smaller than he already is. He came to us from a home with other animals and getting into the swing of things at the shelter has put him on a very steep and unenviable learning curve. We've seen glimpses of promise, like when he allows headbutts or when his general curiosity about the laser dot, but what Figgie Jam wants most of all is a chance to meet you. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 9.1 Age: 0yrs 8mths 3wks

Story
A volunteer writes:Porcupine is a 7-year-old little lady who was found wandering the staircase of a large building, looking for help. And what a little beauty she turned out to be!This petite pixie weighs just 5.12 pounds and has the most gorgeous long grey and white coat with the softest fur you've ever felt. She does need some brushing to get her looking her absolute best, but with proper care and nutrition to help her gain a bit of healthy weight, Porcupine could easily be a beauty contest winner! What really sets Porcupine apart is her wonderfully social personality, although she was understandably a bit scared when she arrived at the care center. She absolutely loves people and would happily greet visitor after visitor, soaking up all the attention and petting she can get. This friendly girl has so much love to give and is ready to become someone's devoted companion.Despite being underweight, Porcupine is apparently healthy with normal senior bloodwork, though she does have senior teeth. With the right care, she'll blossom into the stunning, healthy cat she's meant to be.Pro tip: When you visit the care center, ask specifically for Porcupine - she's so tiny and blends in with her kennel's décor that she's easy to miss! But once you meet this sweet, social little pixie, you won't regret it. She's ready to become your forever best friend today!Porcupine is resting inside her den with slightly dilated eyes. She sniffs the assessor's hand and leans in for cheek pets, closing her eyes when pet under the chin. Porcupine eats offered squeeze up treats but cannot be coaxed to leave her den fully. She allows all petting along her body. Porcupine tenses slightly during a partial pick up, but recovers quickly and continues to lean in for cheek rubs.Porcupine tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Primary Color: Gray Secondary Color: White Weight: 5.8 Age: 7yrs 0mths 0wks
