Story
I was left in front of an abandoned store to fend for myself. My luck changed, however, when some kind humans got me to safety. I am a young and active guy. I would love a doggie friend or even a jogger to take me out. I do know a few commands, am in excellent health, and can't wait to find my forever family. I have not met cats yet.

Story
Note: The following information is from March 2023. She now weighs 46 pounds. Her adopter returned her due to allergies and provided no information about her other than she is now house trained. (tw 4/24/2024)Daria is an excitable girl who really wants your attention. She is jumpy and vocal. She is curious and intense, active and confident. She weighs 40 pounds and enjoys leading while walking on a leash. She knows the sit command but we don't know if she is house trained. She transferred from another shelter and forgot to bring her resume. We haven't seen her interact with children so you can always bring yours to meet her. She has a desire to please people and enjoys being close. She likes running, sticks, and chasing balls but has no interest in picking one up. She has behaved well when interacting with other shelter dogs. Please offer sweet, friendly Daria the home and family she deserves. (tw 3/21/2023) Click "Play" to meet Daria.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bucky!  NEED IMMEDIATE ADOPTION OR FOSTER HOME FOR BUCKY!   Shortly we will no longer be able to foster this wonderful dog.   Please, your help is needed.   Bucky will be an absolutely great member of your family!    Bucky Here!  Darn I am cute!   If I am not adopted soon, I will end up wearing some funky things.   STOP!   I do have my dignity!   ADOPT ME!!!!    Bucky - here again!   I have had a great week with my foster family.   I got to stay outside because of the cooler weather and play ball more!   I also got to snooze on my foster mom's knee while she was working.   I am patiently waiting for my forever home!   Come and get me!   Hello! I am Bucky. I am so happy I am with my loving fosters. I would like to meet my forever family!  I might sound and look scary, but all I want is love and to play ball. I want to tell you about me. I did have a car accident, that has not stopped me. I have had basic training, so i am a better boy! I am healthy and want to run and chase the big birds from flying over my yard. My foster family tells me I am so goofy.   Yeah, I look scary and I do bark letting everyone know I am here. When you come in my home with my family, I want to smell you then want you to pet me. My foster family does have some repair men come in the home. They leave my best friends. I would like to meet the lawn guy, however the big machine he rids on is scary. It reminds my of my arch nemesis the vacuum cleaner.   When I was rescued, I found out what hit me was a car. That was bad. After having doctors fix me up I have not looked back. I run, run, and run some more. I love to play ball in the back yard. I did have problems around cars. My loving fosters showed me it was no problem. They gave me bacon going into the car. I love bacon. Now I am excited to get in the car for a ride, especially for a pup cup. I love taking walks, I would prefer runs. My foster family does not run, I understand.  Oh I love my trainers, they were so good to me! When I was found, I did not know what to do when my fosters were talking to me. After two weeks away from my foster family I now understand. I can sit, go to place, lets go, and down like the best of them. I have a good life with my fosters and AARF. I am ready for my forever family. Will that be with you? ========================================================= Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area.  Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs.   In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events.  Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
Meet Chica a soulful pup whose life took a heartbreaking turn when she was abandoned with her sister who has since been adopted at a local store. As if that wasn`t painful enough, their previous owner refused to take them back, leaving these devoted companions desperate for someone to open their heart and home.Chica, has earned her nickname as the `greeter and helper` in the play yard. She has a remarkable ability to politely redirect her dog friends when they become too rough, and she served as her sister`s protector and champion. Don`t let Chica`s past define her future. Together, we can ensure that her life is filled with all the love and happiness she deserves. Let`s make her dreams of a forever home, filled with warmth and love, a reality.

Story
Three-year old Justice is an extremely loving and loyal pup, who is hungry for love and longing for an adopter to bond with. Justice is extremely smart and soulful. He is very obedient and eager to please. He is great with commands. He is also very intelligent and very low maintenance. He prefers laying at your feet or sitting with you more than anything. When he’s active, Justice loves playing fetch, his favorite game! A fully fenced yard will be a great inclusion in his life. Justice is good with both dogs and cats. Actually, he has had many dog and cat foster siblings and has always gotten along with all of them. We do not know how he is with kids as he has never lived with children. But he is big, so he can knock them down. Therefore we prefer a home without young kids. Justice weighs 75 lbs, and is fully vaccinated for 3 years, neutered, and microchipped. Justice has completed 6 months of board and train, and his trainer will offer complimentary training for life now, either in person or by facetime or video chat. He is a great pup, full of love. He is comfortable around people, and loves car rides. He needs a strong parent who he can look up to, and he will be the best child forever. Donner is fully vaccinated, neutered, chipped and heartworm negative. He is 80 lb. He has not lived around cats but he is fine with dogs and plays well with them. Story
10 months old Iris is a sweet and shy girl. She is social with dogs of any size but takes her time to approach new people. Iris loves retrieving balls and likes to run around in the backyard with her sister Ines and her other foster siblings. Iris likes meeting new dogs, but can be shy with some dogs who are too energetic with her. She likes friendly dogs who aren’t in your face. She is Good with children. Her foster mom brings her granddaughters age 3 and 6 to her home every day. Iris hasn’t been cat-tested and doesn’t live with any cats but she doesn’t run after the outdoor cats that live in her neighborhood. Iris is potty-trained. Her foster mom doesn’t like to crate but Iris has traveled in crates to the vet and to the park and she doesn’t complain about this. Iris is on the chill side. Her foster mom walks once every couple of days. Iris releases her energy by doing zoomies in the backyard with her sister Ines and other dog friends. Iris needs more leash-training. She doesn’t pull but isn’t used at the leash yet. She knows “sit” in Spanish but would benefit from learning more commands such as “give paws”, “stay”, “come.” She is a very cuddly dog but would benefit from socialization with new dogs and people. Iris currently weighs about 42 Lbs and will grow up to become a medium sized dog. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, chipped, and heartworm negative. She is kept on preventatives. She can travel to many states and Canada for the right home. Iris would be happy in a home where she can have a doggie sibling (boy or girl) because she is used to hanging out with more than 4 dogs at the same time. She would do well with young children who are gentle with her and who can get her stimulated by playing ball with her. She is very intelligent and would do great with a family that can get her out on car rides or on hikes to parks and/or beaches. Rescue story: Iris was found living with her family (her sister Ines, brother Andy, and mom April) at 4 months of age under an abandoned house. Sadly, the neighbors in this area mistreated dogs. Iris wasn’t welcome there and had to hide under that house and could only come out at night. Fortunately, her foster mom spotted this little family and got them safe. Her brother Andy passed away 2 days after he arrived to the foster home because he was severely malnourished. Iris, her mom, and sister Ines were also very skinny but were able to gain strength thanks to their foster mom. In a few months, Iris was able to grow into a beautiful and curious dog. To adopt Iris, please send an application via savesomesouls.com Yards must be fully fenced to adopt our pups.
