Their Foster Parent Says:
"After some time with Zero, you will automatically be in love! He is the sweetest lover boy and makes friends with everyone he meets. He was immediately comfortable with my two dogs, and he is friendly and polite to anyone who walks into my home. He definitely has a very good appetite and enjoys being outside and going for walks. He walks well on his leash, and does not pull too much. I would keep the walks to 15 minutes or less because he does get tired easily. He loves playing with toys and sometimes we have to remind him that it’s bedtime because he can play all night. At night he will happily sleep in a bed. Zero Does not like the rain and he is very hesitant to go outside when it is raining but with some gentle encouragement he will follow you out. He also does not seem to like wearing dog clothes, but we are working on it lol. He will greet you happily when you walk into any room."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 30 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) PLEASE NOTE: Adopter should be ready to take on all of the health issues that this breed is known for. Zero does suffer from skin issues that he is being treated for by a vet.
Energy Level:
MEDIUM to LOWER: Needs a daily 30 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
Cuddle bug level:
Medium - - Loves to snuggle but happy to be in his own space too
Potty trained?
Yes - - Fully potty trained
Comfy with strangers?
Yes - - Very friendly with new people
Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)
Yes - - Okay for a home with respectful kids. Zero's previous family had children in it.
Social with other dogs?
Yes - - Incredible with other dogs! In a home with two dogs and is super happy!
Respectful of other small animals? (cats, pocket pets, etc.)
Yes - - We think that zero would be okay in a home with a cat
Mouthy behavior:
Past this stage in his life - - Very respectful with his mouth
Leash manners:
Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.
Okay in the city?
Yes - - Zero is okay to live in the city. He is not bothered by it at all.
Jumping to say hi?
Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.
Separation anxiety?
Nope - fine being left home alone
Crate trained?
Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.
Haven't used one
Medical status:
Currently recovering from skin issues: has some patches of missing fur. Very common for the breed. His previous owners did not take care of it correctly so he is currently on medicated baths, cytopoint and a food trial (is only allowed to eat a prescription food). Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Zero is a local surrender in NYC. His family surrendered him to us after they no longer had time for him. He's an incredible dog! We're very happy to have him in our care.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
