Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Anderson Dog A0055254262Date into Rescue: 2/12/2024 Reason for being in rescue: Preston is one of many from a severe hoarding case. He came in covered in mats and had to be shaved down very short to make him comfortable. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Preston is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. As of 3/4/24, Preston currently has a double ear infection that is being treated by our vet, we will provide more details to an adopter who applies. Weight: 72 lbs Height: 22 inches at the shoulder. Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes, Preston is a very large boy and needs a safe fence to keep him safe. He requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 6 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Preston is looking for a home among Giant Schnauzer lovers. We would like a home who is already experienced with the breed and has the knowledge to give this loving gentle giant the very best. Preston has met several other large dogs and has done well with them, even with dogs who were timid of him at first. Preston has not met cats yet, if an adopter requests we can make that happen. Preston does stick to other dogs so ideally he needs another companion dog in his home. Preston has a gentle personality so we can see him with older considerate children in a home. Preston's home will need a decent amount of time to spare for him, he needs consistent exercise and training sessions. Giant Schnauzers tend to be high energy dogs and Preston meets that energy often. Preston does bark and shows the typical personality of Schnauzers to be intimidating, he is not meant to be with an owner who does not understand the breed. Preston overall is just looking for a moderately active family who adores the breed. What is my personality like? Preston is outgoing and interested in being involved in all parts of life. He loves to be by a human as much as possible. Preston has passed the office test with flying colors. He hung out in the offices with the staff for quite some time as we worked on his description. He smelled around for a few minutes, met several other large dogs in a closed space, and then settled at the staff's feet and slept soundly while they worked. Preston has a nice and gentle temperament. He is quite food motivated and eager to learn as much as possible. Preston would benefit from some basic obedience training, his mind needs to work and the more you do with him the better! Preston does pull a bit on leash, he will need some guidance in this department. Preston knows commands such as sit and paw, and seems to understand down. This is a great start in his training. Preston is highly food motivated which will go a long way for training. So far Preston has been very clean in his living space, we do suggest crating Preston for the first few weeks in a new home when you can't be with him. Preston is a little inquisitive and does nose around spaces, he will stand on the tables and try to peek out windows in his reach. Preston is wiggly and happy, he is incredibly friendly and already has the basic start to making a phenomenal companion for someone. Preston is a very large, very strong dog. He is a gentle giant, but needs a confident leader. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly and excited to see a new face. Other tips and tidbits: Preston's birth date is 2/9/2020 according to our vet's estimate. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. March 27, 2024, 12:43 pm
