Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 2/16/2022, adopted but returned in 2023 Reason for being in rescue: hoarding breeder/ busted by animal control and dogs seized Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Starla is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Starla was treated under eye care specialists at UGA. She had cataract surgery with a lens implant on her left eye. She had cataract surgery with no lens impact on her right eye. Starla has responded beautifully to her cataract surgery and is a different dog with her vision restored.  However, please note that while her vision is much better than before (she no longer bumps into things) we don’t think she is 20/20. Starla is currently on an ongoing eye medication. She is given one small dot (it’s a jelly substance) in each eye three times a week of a simple neo-poly-dex (antibiotic with mild steroid).  At 1800petmeds, it is $19.99 for a tube and the tube lasts about 6 weeks.   Weight: 45 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? Yes, a physically fenced yard that is secure is non-negotiable for Starla.  She cannot walk on a leash.  She will not walk on a leash.  She will run if given the slightest opportunity.  In her fenced yard she is happy and readily to her caregiver.  Without the security of the fence she would not.  Starla got out once before her vision was repaired.  We finally trapped her in a creek bed with high sides so she could not get out.   What kind of home would be best for me? We are seeking a home with an experienced puppy mill rehabber, most likely someone who loves the golden breed and who has patience and time. We also think her new home must be female - Starla does not trust men. She is not real sure about many women, either.  Please understand that at her age, Starla is never going to be the shining, bouncing, gregarious golden that she should be.  Her personality was molded and shaped in an environment she should never have had to live in - too many dogs, not enough space and vision impaired so she had to find her way through sight and nose only.  Starla has dog buddies here but she really does not need another dog.  She needs a patient person.  She had one caregiver who she thought was perfection.  The rest of us are accepted but not loved.  However, that caregiver has moved on and Starla now has no one. Her home must have a fenced in yard that is secure without exception.   We strongly recommend a GPS tracking collar because if she ever gets out until she bonds to you, she is going to run.  Once she bonds to you and makes you her person, things will be different.  She may play and bounce if she gets out of the fence, but the one time it happened to us, she finally came back when she realized play was over and her caregiver was seriously worried.   What is my personality like? Starla is a product of places that sell puppies on line and the mother that is living back in hell at those places.  She will never be a normal dog.  She will always be shut down and fearful.  She accepted one person here and I think, with time, she will accept another calm, loving female owner.  She won't be the one who gives you kisses, begs for car rides and leash walks but she is a living soul and she deserves a life. Starla will be up for adoption through January.  She is also joining our SOS program as one of the soul sisters.  Look for her soon on our sanctuary page.  Starla enjoys her crate but doesn’t like to be locked in it. She prefers the door open.  She walks okay on a leash with someone she trusts.  Surprisingly, when she was at UGA for cataract surgery, she opened up a good bit especially with leash walks.  Starla does not like change - probably the result of her early visual impairment.  She does not want you to move the furniture and especially not her crate.  Her room is room and it’s supposed to stay put.   How do I act when I first meet new people? Shy at first.  She won’t warm up until she trusts you and that could take months.   Other tips and tidbits: Starla is estimated at closing in on her first decade. We celebrate her birthday as 2/11/2014. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. April 18, 2024, 7:05 pm

Duke is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Weight: 55 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes, Duke requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. This is non-negotiable and we won't make an exception to this. What kind of home would be best for me? Duke is a breeder release searching for his first human home. He needs owners who are ready to show him the world. Duke is timid about all things new. He hasn't seen anything outside of the breeding farm of his puppyhood. Duke needs things presented in a calm, confident manner. His big eyes tell the story of a dog who doesn't know how to be a pet. Duke needs a mentor dog and human who is ready to mentor him as well. He is eager to seek out affection from his caregivers but will only come over if there is another confident dog at his side. Duke's word for 2024 is potential. His beautiful golden retriever head and eyes shout potential at us daily. What is my personality like? Duke is wary of all things and people, but not dogs. He seems a content guy and finding a forever family that has calm surroundings and another canine buddy would put him on the path to a hap, hap, happy life. Duke was born on a farm in Ohio. He has never lived in a home and would like to learn how to be a pet. Carolina Poodle Rescue is pleased to work with breeders who are eager to have their dogs find a home. When our site mentions breeder release, we want adopters and supporters to know that this dog will require extra care transitioning into your home. Please know this is a rehabilitation process for the dog. It is a commitment to showing the dog how to be social, building trust, house training, and separation anxiety. Many people use these phrases to describe the rehabilitation process as watching a dog ‘blooming’ or ‘coming out of their shell’. It is a highly rewarding process for you and the dog. We are here to help you support your commitment to your dog. How do I act when I first meet new people? Duke is cautious but curious about new people. When you take the to let him acclimate to you, you will find while still shy, he enjoys pets, ear rubs and chin scratches. We believe the dog you see now is at the starting line in his development. Slow and steady training of this handsome lad from people who love him will win the race to Duke becoming your BFF. Other tips and tidbits: Our vet estimates Duke's birthday to be 1/5/2022.  House trained? Carley is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Weight: 55 lbs Height: 19 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes, Carly is a big girl and requires a physically fence four feet tall or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Carly is a beautiful two-year-old Golden Retriever who is looking for her forever home. She needs a home where her human(s) will be her constant companion and teacher. A single adopter, couple, or family would all work for her. She is a big girl, and we recommend that if a family has kids, they should be middle school-aged or older as she may be too large for smaller children and inadvertently knock them down should she bump into them when playing. Carley is good with dogs of all sizes as well as cats.  What is my personality like? Carly was surrendered by owners who purchased her to breed. Thankfully they realized they were in over their heads and puppy breeding was not for them. So they reached out to rescue and the rest is history. Carly needs a little time to warm up to new people, but she loves the attention she gets from them. She gets along well with other dogs no matter their size. Carly plays well with puppies and adult dogs but hasn't bothered the senior dogs here. She does well with cats. While Carly enjoys playing with other dogs, she prefers people over dogs and cats. Carley eats well and practically inhales her food so a food regulator would be a great investment for her adopter. She doesn't like to go in a crate, but once in she does well. Carley should be relatively easy to train as she is very food-motivated. She is eager to please and with treats as a tool, you can teach her the basic commands such as sit, stay, come, down, etc. She already does well with sit when a treat is involved. Carley will need leash training as well. She is a bit shy at first but give her some time to adjust to her new surroundings in your home, a good two weeks to a month, and she'll display all the loving traits Goldens are known for as she becomes an indispensable loving member of your family. How do I act when I first meet new people? Carly can be a little shy when first meeting people, but she warms up quickly. She simply adores people and craves attention via cuddles and hugs. Carly will jump on you and likes to put your arm in her mouth but is gentle when doing so. Both are her attempts to get your attention and to play. Other tips and tidbits: Carly is estimated to be 2 years old by our vet. We celebrate her birthday 03/18/2022. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. Story
This animal is NOT available through Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. This is a courtesy listing only, so you will need to contact the current owner for more information or to adopt. PLEASE CONTACT THE OWNER: call: (828) 484-4282 Duncan is an outstanding dog. He has a happy, sunny temperament and is a true winner of hearts. He is smart, a quick learner, eager to please, very affectionate, in fact totally lovable. We and our other dog already love him dearly and are very sad to have to give him up since we have found, in the 2 weeks since we adopted him from Brother Wolf, that he is not safe our cat. Duncan needs to live in a home with no cats. Duncan gets on with all dogs of all sizes, male and female and with all the people he has met with us both men and women. He plays with other dogs in a robust but completely unaggressive way, and he is a tireless, but not demanding, ball chaser and retriever. He is beginning to walk well on a leash as he is very easy to train. While walking off leash on a trail he does not run away but runs ahead then circles back and walks happily along with us. He responded to his new name very quickly and impressed us with how quickly he comes when called.

Story
Hopi got his name because he loves to bunny hop! He’s just a happy, hoppy, Hopi! We found this beautiful boy left behind. He crossed the street in front of us one day while we were driving, clearly trying to find food. He was skinny, terrified and heart broken. He ran back to his house to guard it from us as we approached, so we brought out some dog treats we had on us in the car and he immediately ran into my body with gratitude. We found out who his owner was and when we called, were told to just take the dog as the man had been evicted and left this boy behind for over a week, outside. We scooped him up and took him right home. He adores our dogs, LOVES anything outdoors and would need a yard, food motivated, loves playing fetch, loves playing with other dogs and loves, love. He’s amazing. I wish we had the time but we are trying to start a family and already have 2. We want him to have everything he needs and deserves. I know he’d love having another fury buddy too!
