Story
Meet Shep! This handsome boy was in a foster to adopt home but sadly was brought back due to it not being the right fit. Shep needs a home where he has more room to be able to be outside and does not have to be crated indoors all day while everyone works. Shep has been around other dogs, cats, goats, and horses, and has yet found an animal he did not like. Shep does well with children and is a huge cuddle bug. If you are an active family who loves the outdoors and are experienced with this breed please come by the shelter to meet him. If you have another dog or would like more information on Shep feel free to give us a call at 252-475-5620.

Story
Introducing Chantilly, a beautiful young adult female White Great Pyrenees with a heart as warm as her fluffy coat. At 69 pounds, she is gracefully underweight for her breed and is looking to find a loving home that can help her reach a healthy weight with proper care and nutrition. Great Pyrenees are known for their calm and protective nature, and although Chantilly is a bit timid, she is incredibly sweet and forms strong, loving bonds. Her gentle temperament makes her a wonderful companion for those who appreciate the quiet loyalty of these majestic dogs. Chantilly may need a little extra patience and gentle encouragement as she comes out of her shell, but she promises to be a devoted and affectionate member of her new family. Chantilly would do well with an existing pack and might find confidence in some dog friends as well. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will grow in confidence and love with your care, Chantilly is the perfect addition to your home.

Story
This dog is by far the kindest most gentle creature ive had the pleasure of knowing. Ive had him for 3 years and Ive found that he deserves a yard, someone that will give him attention beyond what Im able to do, myself. Im moving to NYC in a few months and I have just come to terms with knowing that wont work for him. If youre interested in this baby we can schedule a meeting so you can meet him. A few things- He doesnt respond well to negative reinforcement, and his digestive system can be finicky (something we can discuss further) and he will eat soft things left on the ground(socks, underwear) so if youre not a clean person- beware. Additionally- he adores kids SO MUCH. He will chase them around and hes so gentle with them. Hes a great dog.

Story
Smudge is a big guy with such a delicate demeanor. Having spent his life outdoors smudge is learning what it is like to be loved and adored amongst a real family. His body tells of a rough life, missing 2 toes and buckled at his wrist; Smudge walks with a slight limp favoring his previously injured foot. Our vet team was surprised to learn from X-rays his 2 toe bones are completely missing causing him to compensate at the wrist. He had tested positive for Lyme disease having not be properly protected by his previous home. Yet despite all he has to overcome this boy is a true gentle giant. He walks gracefully on a leash simply happy to have you nearby, adores children of all ages, he loves to be an integrated part of the family. It seems he has longed for that for so long. Smudges responses to everyday situations breaks our hearts, he will cower with raised voices, lower himself with fast motions and try to show his stomach to you in appeasement. We don’t know everything this big guy endured yet are working with him to build his confidence. When Smudge is feeling protected and brave his tail starts to wag, his body language becomes taller and looser. His entire body wags with joy to see people, he showers your with kisses and will quickly accept all the pets you are willing to give. Smudge enjoys our company more than any dog in our program. We can’t help but think he spent so long hoping for such attention. Transparencies are important to us; on walks Smudge prefers the scenic route where he can sniff and claim every blade of grass as his which makes for a comical sight and leaves us wondering just how much more fluid could he possibly possess. Smudge enjoys the company of other dogs, happily will strut alongside them. He is not a huge fan of wrestling yet loves to be in their presence all the same. He is definitely a calmer laid back guy. In the home Smudge is a self declared kitchen assistant, laying all 65lbs of himself right where you plan to walk hoping something may find its way to the floor. He is definitely a foodie! This guy might be large yet is as gentle as they come, he is tolerant of others dogs bully ways and will cower to them vs standing up for himself. We would love to find him a home where he no longer has to be bullied, taken for granted yet where he will be cherished and adored for the amazing boy he is. He would do best in a single level home. Smudge is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and preventatives. He has been microchipped and is being treated appropriately for his positive Lyme diagnosis which will be over soon! If you think your family is ready to welcome such an amazing boy into your home please complete an application on our website. It’s not often dogs like Smudge come around, he’s going to be one you will compare every dog too. https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/dog-adoption-application/***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***

Story
Aspen is a Great Pyrenees puppy, born around January 19.  On 3/28, she weighed 21 lb and will be a VERY BIG GIRL.  Her future home will be required to have a large, fenced yard, as Pyrs are known to love being outside, to be independent and to wander.  She could do well as a farm guardian too, especially if there is another guardian dog on the farm/property to show her the ropes.  We prefer for her to go to someone with experience with Pyrenees because they are a very specific breed with specific needs. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all of her vaccinations and has been on heartworm and flea prevention while in our care. Her adoption fee is $450 and you can apply to meet this gorgeous girl at MPRAVL.org! All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at pets@mpravl.org for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC. April 22, 2024, 3:49 pm
