Meet Axel! He greets his humans with the most enthusiastic wiggle butt that makes everyone smile and laugh. It takes him a bit to warm up to new people, but once he is comfortable he is lovable and friendly. We think Axel is a greyhound/lab mix, we aren’t sure- we just call him our Texas Special- which is the best kind of dog. Axel is a little less than a year old, weighs 40 pounds and is being fostered in Houston, Texas with three male dogs (40, 55 and 80 pounds) and two 50 pound females. He is a little too interested in cats to be in a home with them. Once this sweet boy is comfortable with people, he showers them with love and affection. He's great with older kids, but may need more time to adjust to younger ones so we are recommending a family with kids 8 and up. In the home, he's energetic and playful, enjoying running around and playing with toys. He's also quite vocal, using his big bark to express himself. He appreciates his own space but enjoys cuddling when the mood strikes. Axel is high-energy and loves to play with other dogs, especially roughhousing and chasing. In play groups, he tends to have a favorite dog and prefers one-on-one play rather than big group activities. He definitely needs a house with a yard to run around in. Car rides? Axel rides great in the car and would love to go with you to run errands, grab coffee, or a late night snack. He does need help getting in and out of the car. Adventures?? Axel wears a harness and is good on the leash. He may need encouragement in new environments. Axel passes other dogs on leash in public with ease. He knows how to sit and is super food motivated which will help with his continued training. Crate Trained? YES Potty Trained? The adoption fee is $82 a5 nd includes all vetting per our veterinarian: DAPP (2 to 4 depending on age and time in the program), Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter surgery, flea prevention, 2-6 months of heartworm preventative according to age, heartworm testing and heartworm treatment if applicable, extended medical such as dentals, eye surgeries, and orthopedic surgeries prior to adoption when suggested by our partner vets, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar for dogs over 4 months old, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and many priceless years of love and loyal companionship! *WE ARE TOLD THAT WE GO ABOVE AND BEYOND MEDICALLY. This is the feedback we tend to get, although we cannot guarantee perfect health. *To fully vet a dog in the PNW at many vets it would be upwards of $1,800 just to fix, vaccinate, chip, etc. The adoption fees charged by our rescue do not cover our expenses medically for each animal, but we offset costs with donations. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. Spirit is a lovely grayhound mix. We pulled him from WVAS shelter after he was found in a closet starving . Spirit has made an incredible recovery and is very excited to find his next home! He is happy to snuggle with you on the couch with a little bit of time to stretch his legs every day. Spirit loves to go on public outings and is such a gentleman on his leash and around the house. He absolutely loves other dogs, but sometimes needs some guidance on what appropriate play looks like.
