Story
Wilbur is a 9-year-old beagle boy in need of his very own home. He is affectionate and sweet, and loves to give kisses and offer his paw for you to hold (and to give you access to rub his belly while he's sitting up). Wilbur was bought from a breeder as a puppy, and came to Lakeshore Humane Society at four years old when the man found he was working too much overtime to give Wilbur what he needed. Wilbur was adopted by a wonderful woman, but she got sick late in 2023 and Wilbur found himself back at LHS. A volunteer, Rebecca, who loves beagles tried to adopt him, but it turns out Wilbur wants to be the only pet in the house. He's still with Rebecca as a foster, getting two walks a day and spending time outside, where he likes to survey the backyard for squirrels, as all good beagles do. He loves food and treats and was a bit chubby, but has slimmed down quite a bit. He does have some minor health issues, found after Rebecca had some tests run. He has hypothyroidism, and takes a little pill every morning in a piece of cheese. He also had chronic bronchitis, so takes a pill to keep that at bay, and a bit of anxiety, also treated with medication. All together, his medicines cost about 50 dollars a month. Wilbur happily takes his "cheese medicine" before breakfast every day. He eats regular Purina senior dog food. He's great at the vet, resigning himself to whatever needs to be done. He's the same in the bathtub. He needs someone strong to walk him or a fenced-in yard. He has a surprising amount of energy for an older guy! If anyone is interested in Wilbur, please call LHS at 716-672-1991 and leave a message for the dog committee. They can put you in touch with Rebecca to talk or to arrange a meeting. Thank you!
