Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi I'm Pat!  I'm a happy friendly scuffy guy who's sweet as can be.  I love pets and scratches and any treat is yummy!  My favorite thing though is to be in your lap and snuggle and cuddle.  I'm a great listener and would be happy to hear about your day if you need someone to talk to.  I'm pretty easy going so I get along with all my doggie friends.  I don't need one in my forever home though.  I should also tell you I don't love being left alone so I will complain for a bit when you leave me so no shared walls please.  After a few minutes I do settle and nap till you return.  True to my adorable terrier breed I'm quite the athlete.  I'm a little short, but I do my best to try and jump into my fosters mom's arms.  I'm also fast!  When I run I'm like lighting!  Maybe an agility class would be fun for us to go to!    I could be a cute jogging partner or we could just go on walks and explore the world.  I'd love to go anywhere with you.  I make friends with everyone I meet from adults to kids.  I really just want to be loved.  I'm working on potty and have gotten the hang of using a washable potty pad when I need to inside, my doggie friend showed me how.  Smart huh?!  Don't worry because I go outside too.  I'm catching on fast so I know I'll master it soon.  Let's meet and I know I'll win you over in no time with my charming personality! Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Meet Poppy! Poppy is a 6yr old, Terrier mix, spayed female and up to date on vaccines/preventatives. She is house trained, kennel trained, and vehicle trained as well. Poppy is a medium energy dog; feisty and likes to socialize BUT she's a little crusty on the outside and super gooey on the inside. She loves her people and her friends; however, you'll need to earn her trust. Poppy can be energetic, plays casually and enjoys sustained games of chase with her friends, on her terms (fun police.) She can get cranky if play becomes too vigorous and she gets pounced on too much/hard. Poppy has a little bit of arthritis, and it can be painful, so she will gladly retreat to the door to let you know she is done with playtime. She is more than willing to go inside, follow you around or curl up, chill, and get her belly rubbed. Being small but mighty, Poppy occasionally has bouts of barking at what she sees moving in the distance and will go zooming up and down the fence line in arousal of anyone/thing approaching; however, she will calm down on her own with minimal intervention from her person. When greeting you, Poppy displays the typical wiggle body and wildly wagging tail. Have you seen how long her tail is?! It waves like a banner over her back and is simply adorable! She may initially hop up to put her feet on you, letting you know she's happy and wants to interact with you, she loves attention and will display a little eagerness to get more loves... so saying her name as she's being petted, and the name of the other dog(s) being petted keeps her content. Noteworthy Behaviors: Poppy displays barrier reactivity with new people/surroundings as a way to express her anxiety in the situation. She will need a person or family, (with older children), who will understand and take their time with her. Once you win her over, she is gold! She is quirky about having her collar touched so she will whine, cower down, and roll to her side. She will display mouthy behavior as you attempt to put a leash on her, but she genuinely wants to go out so don't give up! She will pop right up and head to the door after being leashed!! Key points to consider when adopting Poppy: she is sugar and spice with bursts of energy so great with a laid back and an active family. Honorable mention: Poppy does have a housemate, Sully, who is also up for adoption. If you're looking for two friends, then they are your duo! He is incredibly friendly and affectionate with people. He loves to look out the window and watch TV. Although he can get pretty excited when he spots a squirrel or his favorite team scores. He is reliably housetrained and enjoy’s sleeping in bed with you or in his kennel. Melo would do well in a home with a yard where he can run and play. Melo does best with slower intros to other dogs who are also willing to engage in some playtime shenanigans. Kids are great but he will want to play with them and may jump up on or knock them over in excitement. We do not know how Melo is with cats.  **Melo has a condition called hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's disease) which is when the adrenal glands do not function properly. The adrenal glands produce numerous important hormones that help to regulate the body. With Addison's disease the adrenal glands do not make enough hormone to properly regulate the body so supplementation is necessary. There is no cure for Addison's disease but it can be well managed with twice daily oral medication and a monthly injection. Recheck bloodwork every 6-12 months will also be required to make sure he remains on the correct medication dose. Cost for the medication is about $50-60 per month. When well-managed with medication Melo can still live a happy and healthy life with a normal expected lifespan. *Melo has had only one crisis and that was when he was first diagnosed.
