Story
Maverick is a 7-year-old male retriever-shepherd mix, who came into our program as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him due to unexpected life circumstances. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy, and was very loved, but has been in foster care for almost a year now trying to find a new home. He lived in a home with young children and is reported to be great with kids 6 yr and older. Maverick is a very lovable dog, who thinks he’s a 90# lap dog and loves to snuggle with anyone who will let him. He probably should drop a couple pounds. Maverick loves to be with his people, he rides well in the car and likes to go on walks – he does tend to pull if he sees another dog or person that he would like to meet. Maverick has been great with all dogs and people he meets but can be a little shy at first. Maverick loves to play with toys, and he also enjoys an appropriate bone now and then. He is confined in “his” room for a full workday and is housebroken. He loves to hang out with his humans inside and out. A fenced yard is preferred so that he can wander around the yard safely, but is not required for his forever home. Maverick barks appropriately when in the yard and in the house, but when getting used to a new environment he also barks at noises he doesn’t recognize, so a home with shared walls may be difficult at first unless his human(s) are home much of the time to help him acclimate. Maverick is a pretty relaxed dog, who loves to hang out and be with his human(s). He could be an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. Maverick should not go with cats - he will chase them if they jump up or run and play. If the cats are senior, and aren't very active, he might be OK - the cat he's napping with in the picture is 21 yr young, and doesn't run from him, so they sometimes nap together. Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $195. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Story
Charles is described as a “big lovebug” by his foster. He loves people and other dogs, and is very playful with the resident dog. Initially he acts like he wants to be dominant and in charge, but he really lets the resident female canine run the show. Charlie is a 2 yr old snow lab-pyrene``es mix, and at 78# he is still a little under-weight and should gain at least 5 or more #. Plain dry food is not a big hit, and it needs to be “improved” by adding some canned food to the bowl. Soaking it in warm water with a little chicken broth might also be worth a try. He maintains his weight, but is slow to gain. The best treats are the soft ones, and he has a gentle mouth taking them. Walks are enjoyable, but know that he is quite interested in wildlife and will pull if he sees any critter (and he’s strong!). He sometimes jumps to greet, so is best matched with older kids that he won’t accidentally knock over - and that are mature enough to monitor him at the door and the gate of the fenced yard. His recall at the dog park isn't the greatest (pyrenees are known to be stubborn at times), and if he got out of the house or yard, he might not respond to your calling. Charles sleeps in bed with his person (or on a blanket on the floor if you insist). No experience with cats. He enjoys time outside, playing with the resident female lab mix, and respects the 4 ft. fence – a secure fenced yard is a requirement for adoption. Another playful dog would be ideal. He knows the foster goes to work in the morning after he comes back into the house after doing his business outside, so some times he stubbornly doesn’t come in - you have to circle around him and “herd” him back in. Charles is sensitive to a raised voice. He is reliably housebroken, and has free run of the house when left - the only thing he might chew on is shoes, so you have to keep them out of his reach. The one time he was crated he was able to get out. Bones and rawhides help meet his chewing needs. He rides well in a vehicle, but needs to be coaxed in. Not a big barker, but will join in if another dog barks or if he sees wildlife. Doesn’t like to get wet – avoids hoses, sprinklers, and swimming in a lake - and doesn't like to go out in the rain. Charles is neutered, and current on distemper, bordetella and rabies vaccinations. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. The ideal home for him would include another playful dog. A fenced yard is required, and he does respect a 4 ft fence. His adoption fee is $395. Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in him.

Story
Snapshot of Trudy: Size? Full Size (40-60 pounds) Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? I bark when I play! Good with Dogs? I would LOVE a playmate, but would also do fine on my own Good with Cats? I'm ok with dog-savvy cats Good with Kids? Great, but I do jump up! Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? I'm a Pro! Crate Trained? I do well in my crate! Shedding? I don't shed much. About Trudy: Hello! My name is Trudy and I am looking for my forever home! I weigh about 52 pounds and I just love toys, my humans, and the dogs that live with me! I am very good at going to my crate and I'm learning to mind my manners when it's dinner time! I am almost a pro with potty training, I just need to know what door to stand by so my humans can see that I need to go out. I like slow intros to new dogs, once they understand my boundaries we do just fine. I love kids, but since I'm still learning not to jump up when I see people, older children would be better for me. I am quite the cuddler and would love to snuggle while you're working or watching TV! I also love to go on long walks. I would do well with another pet or as the star of the show. I would LOVE to find my forever home and am looking forward to meeting you! Trudy is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Adoption Fee: $450+ applicable taxes Training Requirement: Obedience Level 1 recommended MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you'd like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting https://www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/ or clicking "adopt me!. Story
Sandy is an energetic dog who loves to play fetch with her soccer ball outside, she likes to play with kids, and to interact with people. She is playful with other dogs. She was born in May 2023. She is potty/bell trained. She is good about not barking unless a stranger approaches the house, she is a good watchdog. Sandy will do well in a home where she can get outside to stretch her legs and play often. She does fine in the house all day though, but gets bored without toys or bones to chew on. The minor behavior issues she has are chewing on furniture and sometimes shoes. She is a good natured dog, very affectionate and enjoys attention! She is easy to train for someone who can give her consistency.

Story
I adopted Kevin from a shelter as a puppy, and he has been with me for 7 years. He is an active dog, who loves walks and running around outside playing fetch. I am looking to re-home him due to being a recently single parent, and I don't have the time or resources to be able to afford to keep him. I am trying to find a home with him with older kids, as he is a little dog at heart.
