This handsome baby boy has had a hard life judging by his response to everyone. We don't know what his past has been, but we know what his future holds. He will be loved and cared for once he finds his people. Peanut is in the DASH Prison Training Program where he will learn his manners and some basic commands. He is working on sit, stay and leave it. He is a bit cautious with new people, so his trainer is working on bonding, socialization, confidence building and making him feel safe. His handler reports that Peanut has come a long way since he first started the program! He knows how to relax, loves his chest, belly and ears rubbed, enjoys naps, learns quickly and listens well. He is getting better with people, being less scared and more curious. He seems to be much better with this (more sociable) in the presence of other dog playmates, so another dog companion in the home would be a blessing in helping him adjust. He's good with other dogs, walks on leash, does well in his crate and is house broken. He has not yet been cat or kid tested so proper introductions are recommended as well as any other dogs he will be living with. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

Initially when Donner came to us he was pretty shy and unsure, but he has since opened up and blossomed into a pretty outgoing guy.
