Story
Hi everyone, I am a dashingly handsome black Chihuahua mix named Spike. I am 2 years old, weigh 21 lbs and I was found in San Antonio Texas tied to a pole. I was scared and confused, but fortunately, I was microchipped. Unfortunately, it was my owner who had left me there and no longer wanted me. I guess I should be grateful they didn't push me out of a car while traveling down the highway like many other abandoned dogs around here, but nonetheless, it was a blow to my ego. I’m sweet and easy and no trouble at all, so here I am… looking for a new forever family. I am a friendly boy, a bit shy at first but I warm up quickly and get along with everyone. I enjoy playtime with my doggy friends but in short spurts of 15-20 minutes and then I like to relax, chew on a bone, or sunbathe outside on a pretty day. I am not into doggy toys, but I’m into doggy treats and love them all, LOL. I have a calm demeanor, I rarely bark, and I’m well-behaved and housebroken. I learned how to use a doggy door after just 2 days in my foster home by watching the other dogs go outside, so I guess you could say I’m smart! I’m snuggly and affectionate, but not the kissy type, so I won't be slobbering all over you. I walk well with a harness and leash and I don't mind a ride in the car. I hear many wonderful families on the East Coast would be happy to have a sweet dog like me, so I can't wait to meet them and get my new life started! Inquire about me today and bring me home! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. If you are located outside the states we typically adopt to, we have options to get the dog of your dreams to your location.

Story
DANTE - 2 years, 15lbs, Min Pin Mix, Neutered  This dog is joining Social Tees on 10/18 and is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy level MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained? Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help.  Social with other dogs? Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon.  Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision) We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Okay in the city? We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.   Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Big Max is an absolute sweetheart! Get ready to get lost in this precious Min-Pin's eyes and want to kiss his snoot all the time! He's approximately 5.5 years old, 16 lbs., and neutered. It's important to know that Big Max is a breeder surrender, which means he's lived most of his live in far less than ideal conditions. He's therefore skittish, skeptical of most things, and loud noises tend to startle him - but he's already made SO much progress in the last few days since arriving in New York!Personality & Characteristics: Curious, sweet/gentle, kind and welcoming with other dogs, great appetite, loves to nap!My foster dog is good with: Dogs, but calmly - not taking to dog parks right now to more slowly acclimate him to city lifeMy foster dog is: Low shed, goes potty outside3 Keywords for your pup: Timid, gentle, calmEnergy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 2Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Quiet, haven't heard a bark yet!Walking Manners: Such a good walker considering he's new to NYC - occasionally jumps back/startles with motorcycles/loud trucks but otherwise, he's on a mission!Appetite: Excellent; eating two full meals a day and treats sprinkled inDoes the following: Nervous outside but making tons of progress already and struts down the streets of Brooklyn, great sleeper, not the biggest fan of the bath but lets it happen :)Favorite Things: Naps and being held/stroked on his head between his eyesCommands/Tricks: Already responding well to 'come', 'stay', 'drop/leave it'! Story
Stryker & Smokey are 5 year old rescues from Texas. These litter mates have been working hard to adjust to city life since 2020, but they had a tough start to life. They are timid and leary of new people, and they are still learning that they are safe and loved. They have learned that cuddles feel nice, and will allow their people to love on them most days. They are attached to one another, and are much calmer when they are together. They need an experienced adopter to make them feel safe and loved.

Story
Pacer, a black and tan Miniature Pinscher, about 4.5 years old on 5/19/24, was rescued 2 years ago. He was morbidly obese and appeared to be in a catatonic state when we got him. He was so terrified that he completely shut down and moved so little that we were concerned that he wasn’t even breathing. We took him to the vet to bring him up to date on vaccinations, but decided to wait until he was less terrified before we put him through the trauma of being neutered. He was neutered and vaccinations updated on 5/31/24. Pacer, unfortunately, tested positive for heartworms and is on the slow kill, doxycycline protocol. Pacer will do best in a quiet home with an experienced dog owner. Due to his fearfulness, he will not be considered for homes with young children. Pacer is located in Arkansas. He currently weighs about 15 pounds. His adoption donation is $465 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to give Pacer the loving home he deserves and help him develop into the confident little guy he can become, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. href="http://dhd.coffeecup.com/forms/bhsapp/">You can find a copy of that application here. Story
Banana’s owner became homeless and had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome her. So far her foster dads in Texas have not found a flaw. We think she is a Min Pin/Terrier mix. She is an older gal who weighs 20 pounds, a great size for snuggling which Banana loves! Banana gets along with both dogs and cats! She's a calm and easygoing gal who is house trained and crate trained. She's a good listener and also quiet. You couldn't ask for a better dog than Banana - she's pretty much perfect! Banana has tested positive for heartworm. She will be getting treatment in Texas before making the trip to NJ to find a forever home. If you'd like to bring Banana into your life, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for her by name, BANANA TX!November 3, 2024, 7:59 pm

** Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea ** Meet Leeju👋 She was found on the street in South Korea at just 2 months old and sent to a high-risk city shelter along with her four siblings. LeeJu is now more than ready for a furever home! • Personality: Friendly, Curious, Cautious LeeJu is such a friendly and lovable pup with a curious and cautious personality. Her energy level is mid-low as she mostly chills in a kennel at home and prefers to have light walkies mainly for the bathroom. • Affinity with - Dogs: Super friendly with other dogs as long as they are not too large or aggressive. Meet MARY-KATE OLSEN! She is “twin” to Ashley and sis to Elizabeth, both of which are up for adoption with us! She is a little under 5 months old and 14 lbs as of mid-October. We think she’s a black lab mix: she’s very slender and elegant, and has the cutest button ears! She is super friendly, sweet and active! She loves other dogs and people! Ashley dreams of finding her forever home, preferably with people who will buy her Starbucks puppacinos, and walk her a lot (although she will be hiding behind trees and sign posts from the puparazzi)! ——————————————————————- *PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently in Puerto Rico.* Once an adopter is fully approved, transport will be arranged to the New York/NJ area. We do adopt out of state, but you must come to pick up. In addition, if you are applying for this dog or any of our pups, you must be open to dog psychology/behavior (Cesar Millan) and fulfilling the needs of the dog. Please consider your future lifestyle after COVID. Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment is the most important thing in caring for a dog. In addition we cannot guarantee breed of any dog or expected adult size of a puppy.
