Story
Have you always wanted your own polar bear? Now you can! Meet Bear.Bear was from a neglect call our animal control officers received. The owner elected to surrender Bear after working with the animal control officers to address the situation. Bear is very sweet and has a lot of energy. He’s only 3 years old, so he still has a lot of that silly young energy to burn daily. He loves other dogs, respects cats, and does great with children. He does well with men and women equally. He is loving and social and does excellent with our volunteers (as you can see by the photos of him snuggling with one of our volunteers.)Bear is a Great Pyrenees, which is a livestock guardian breed. They were bred to deter sheep-stealing wolves and other predators and are still popular for livestock-raising farms for this very reason. They’re also a super smart breed, although typically called stubborn by their families. Think of a three-year-old child: we’re talking about that level of stubbornness. They’re also prone to wandering, as they were bred to protect a “territory”, so they do best in yards with tall fences. Despite their stubbornness and wandering, they’re a very beloved family breed. They’re often referred to as “gentle giants” for how sweet they can be despite their 80+ lbs frames! All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and Bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated microchip registration at the time of adoption.
