Living in the shelter for so long has taught me that the world can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm learning that it can also be a safe and loving place. I might be a bit startled by sudden touches, and the sound of children playing can spook me, so I'm looking for a patient adopter without young kids who can understand my need to start small and build trust at my own pace. About Him/Her Despite my initial shyness, once I feel safe and secure, I'm an absolute sweetheart. I love nothing more than asking for belly rubs and following my human everywhere – I'm a loyal companion through and through. Every morning, I'll gently paw at my foster mom for more petting, and my tail wags with pure joy whenever my family returns home. I'm a low-energy dog who enjoys resting at home, but don't let that fool you – I can be quite energetic and playful outside! I don't tire easily, so I'm up for adventures and long walks, especially if it means spending quality time with my loving family. Yes, I may be a bit timid and unsure of loud noises, but I'm a quick learner, and with the right guidance and patience, I'm sure to blossom into the confident, happy dog I was meant to be. Little Luna is an approximately 8 year old Pom/Pap mix who has a delightful personality and is as easy to love as they come!  She is also easy to live with - housetrained, fine when left alone, good with other dogs and friendly with new people.  She's really the total bundle! She came to our rescue as an owner surrender where, it seems, she was living in a senior's building and being passed around from one resident to the next.  Thankfully, she ended up at our vet for a exam and he intervened when her current owner said she couldn't look after her physically or financially.   Upon further exam, our vet found she had rotting teeth, a heart murmur, a mammary mass, early kidney insufficiency, wasn't spayed and had 'wonky' hips.  What a list of challenges this poor girl faced!  But never say never here at Speaking of Dogs Rescue! Luna has now been spayed, had her dental surgery and had the mass removed!  The mass came back from the lab as benign, so great news on that front!  Her heart murmur is a 2/6 and fairly common; she's on meds now and doing dandy.  For her kidneys, she has a special food that is low in protein so it's easier on her kidney function.  Her hips are not painful and while she does walk a bit off kilter, they do not recommend surgical intervention. She may be a bit hard of hearing and, while she doesn't bark much, when she does it sounds like she was de-barked at some point which is quite sad.  So there you have it! It's Luna in all her glory, ready to make her last move into a forever home.  Her foster family raves about her and adds that she's basically the quintessential dog -  housetrained, enjoys going for walks, good with people, 10 pounds of love in a little fluffy package,   If you are interested in opening your heart and home to Luna, here is the link to our adoption application   https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/dog-adoption-application-2/April 25, 2024, 9:19 am
