Story
Hi! My name is Heya, and I am IN SOUTH KOREA waiting to be matched to a home in Los Angeles! I was rescued from the dog meat trade in South Korea by the DoVE Project. My fate would have been to live in fear and distress, watching dogs being led to slaughter for human consumption. DoVE Project heard about me, and now I am looking for my forever family! ID/NAME: CARE23-027 / Heya SEX/WEIGHT/AGE: Female / 8.8 lbs / 6 months BIRTH DATE: November 1, 2022 BREED: Pomeranian/Spitz VACCINATIONS/SPAY/NEUTER/HEALTH: Vaccinations complete / Spayed / Healthy BACKGROUND: Heya was rescued from a dog farm in Yeoju in April 2023. BEHAVIOR: Heya is a playful puppy and loves to play with her human friends, other dogs, and even strangers that happen to be passing by. Heya is gentle and seems to respond well to human guidance. Heya has only recently started leash training. She seems eager to learn and makes great effort to follow her foster’s lead. Heya shows mild separation anxiety, like placing clothes on the pad or tearing the pad, but she's learning to manage it better every day. And when it's mealtime, this little pup loves her food and can be a bit of a fast eater. ABOUT SHELTER STRESS Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in the best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many of our dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some of our more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper connection human-dog connection. DoVE Project is committed to helping our adopters desensitize and socialize our dog meat trade survivors. ********************************* DoVE Project operates a shelter in South Korea, where our dogs stay until they are matched with an adopter. In the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names. Please note that we only adopt our pups in the Southern California area. Please check our website for more information regarding our adoption process, our mission, and our adoption application: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-process If you are interested in adopting, please complete an online application at: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-application-form.

Story
Leo the Lion is a loveable 2 year old Pomeranian mix. He was surrendered by his former owners and was fortunate enough to find his way on to The Rescue Train. He is a sweet, funny dog that likes to cuddle, going on long walks and carrying around his favorite Nylabone. Although Leo is hearing impaired, he is very smart. He was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and his seizures are being controlled with phenobarbital. His foster took lessons with a trainer that specializes in deaf dogs so an adopter experienced with deaf/special needs dogs is a plus. He walks well on leash and is very good at maintaining eye contact so he knows when to safely cross the street. He doesn't bark very often, but he does bark very loudly so an apartment would not suit him. He interacts well with other dogs but doesn't necessarily initiate play and sometimes just likes to just watch from the sidelines. His adopter will be required to take a minimum of 2 lessons with his trainer, which are included in his adoption donation. --- If you are interested in adopting LEO THE LION please fill out our adoption application by clicking this LINK. Applications are required PRIOR to meeting one of our animals and are used to set up a safe and successful adoption. Please don't be shy and answer the questions thoroughly. To learn more about our entire process please visit www.therescuetrain.org and click on the "Adopt A Dog" page. PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT OWN A FACILITY. Our animals are in private foster homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our animals please fill out our online application. Hudson - 3-4 years old, 6lbs Hudson came to us from Bakersfield, where he was running free n a field with many other abandoned dogs. It was not safe for him, he was hungry, it is hot and he needed help. We took him in and became aware of the Crisis in Bakersfield. So many dogs are abandoned and are in danger. It will be a while before Hudson is available for adoption. He has many health issues we are sorting out.  In his honor, we have become involved in helping the other abandoned dogs at large. If you like bigger dogs too, please have a look at the available dogs Bakersfield Strays has trapped, vetted, and now offering for adoption. www.bakersfieldstrays.orgFebruary 27, 2023, 12:10 am
