Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Well I was 'purchased' by a senior citizen.  He was 78 and I was a puppy :(  I had to be around really big dogs.  By the time I was 2 I had learned that I needed to protect myself.  My owner had realized he was to old to handle a puppy.  To say it was a mess was an understatement :(   My owners daughter started calling all around looking for help to place me.  She told the people I was food aggressive, dog aggressive and only liked males so of course most rescues the SPCA included didn't want anything to do with me :(Lucky for me Lynn decided she wanted to meet me.  She took my leash and we went for a walk.  I just knew by the way she walked with me that she was in charge and I didn't have to be.  She picked me up and carried me for a little while and I decided I liked it!She brought this big dog Millie into the play yard.  Oh no I was scared but Lynn seemed to think it would be alright so I decided to see what would happen.  Millie was very nice and she gave me my space hmmmm I think I might be OK with dogs.  The next day I came for a visit at the ranch for the day.  I met ALL the dogs and it was OK no one wanted to hurt me!!  Now I run around the ranch and I am part of the pack and guess what I like EVERYONE!  I'm even OK with female humans!!!  Life is GREAT!!  PLEASE if you are a senior be smart and don't get a young dog get a dog that is more your age and activity level and one that won't be left behind to start over when you are gone.  Its not fair.  I know other people can take the dog but boy would you like to have your world turned upside down and start all over again just because someone was selfish enough to not think ahead???MUST HAVE FENCED YARD AND ANOTHER DOG Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!April 15, 2024, 12:36 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fostering is a very important part of rescue because it allows more animals to be saved. There is a capacity on how many dogs Peace Love & Poms Rescue can have at one time and sadly we can’t save every dog that needs our help. Every foster home that welcomes a foster dog, opens a space at the rescue so that another dog can be saved.  Fostering also provides an in-home experience, which makes the dog that much more adaptable.  Fostering is extremely rewarding and you are helping to save innocent lives. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 18, 2024, 1:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Steely is searching for his perfect home! This 7(we think) year old 14-pound boy is healthy, but he does have quirks. Not much is known about his background, but we know his history since March 2023. He was sent to a Pittsburgh shelter for emergency boarding. After 2 months with nobody coming back to get him or return calls, he was abandoned in the shelter. That’s when we were contacted. Shelter life was not good to him, and he was starting to act out and become aggressive to the staff and other dogs. Steely is easily excitable so we started medication to help him level out. After a month with his foster family, he has started to calm down, not be so reactive, and learn how to be a loved house dog. He needs a patient parent who will help build his confidence and not force anything on him. He does not like surprise sudden movements towards him, which has caused him to lash out. He responds well to praise and high value treats, but it has taken him time to warm up to new people and settle into a new environment. Steely is house trained to go on the pee pads, crate trained at night, rides well in a car, loves his chewies, and eats very well. He is great on a leash and will walk by your side. Despite his anxiety, he is good with grooming and tolerates vet visits. He does not like large dogs! He does OK with other dogs his size and smaller, but we think he will be best suited as the only dog in the house. He loves to have all of the attention on him, and will sit in your lap for pets. He can get a little nippy if he feels like you're not paying enough attention. Because of this, Steely cannot go to a home with children and would do best in a home that will continue to work with him and help him be the best boy he can be. Once Steely settles in, recognizes you, and trusts you, he will be your constant companion. To adopt Steely, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, dental, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 18, 2024, 1:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.WallE is a big beautiful 20 pound, 5 year old Pomeranian looking for his perfect home. He is highly trained, loyal, and sweet as can be, BUT that's only with his people. You see WallE wasn't well socialized so new things cause him anxiety that make him bark to warn people he is scared. A home wothout children is a must. We have put WallE on anxiety meds and worked with him on new things and he has improved greatly, but he will need continued work, patience and understanding in his new home. He would love to be an only dog, and it would be best for him to have a home as an only pet. WallE prefers women, but does accept men after some time to adjust. WallE is leash trained, crate trained, house trained, rides well in a car, and healthy. Now all he needs is his happily ever after! To adopt WallE, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 18, 2024, 1:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sable is a beautiful 14 year old 12 pound senior girl looking for her happily ever after! She was a loyal companion all her life, but a new girlfriend demanded she be gone, but that's okay because the poor girl desperately needed vet care. Sable is hearing impaired but responds to whistles and finds you with bumps or vibration. She gets excited when she finds you to get her scratches and play. She is also vision impaired, but it doesn't slow her down one bit because she quickly learns the layout of new places. She even does a few steps to get in and out of the yard. Sable is house trained to use pee pads or go outside, accepts a harness and leash, and prefers a home with other dogs. She isn't a fan of grooming so she gets a little sedative pill before any spa days. Sable may be a senior but she is healthy, spry, smart, and playful just looking for a loving family! To adopt Sable, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, urinalysis, spay, dental, enucleation, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 18, 2024, 1:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Titus is ready to find his happily ever after! This healthy 9 year old, 11-pound boy has so much spunk and love to share with a new family! He loves his adult people, snuggling and getting scratches, but kids are too much for him. He loves other small playful dogs to romp and play with, but bigger dogs scare him. He prefers being walked on a leash because that's what he is used to, but a fenced yard is okay too as long as you don't mind coaxing him out for potty time. He isn't a fan of the vet or grooming, but we found an little medicine beforehand and a soft muzzle calm him to allow what needs to be done. He has worked hard with positive reinforcement and improved with accepting vetting and grooming, but continued work is always needed. Titus loves his people and we know in a patient, force free home he will continue to thrive and live his best life! To adopt Titus, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org.
