Story
Sweet boy with a big heart Baby Iron Man aka Auggie was found as a stray in Tennessee, despite being out in the streets; it doesn't take away from his love of people and other animals! from the moment we met, he met us with kisses and smiles. He was eager to explore the world. He is great with dogs, he loves to play and follow and look up to our dog as an example of what to do and what not to do! He would be great in a home with another pup, as he loves to play with our resident pup although he would be great as an only dog as well because loves to snuggle and give kisses to his owners!  He is a great boy to give a bath too, no fuss what so ever, he loves to go in the car, loves to go on walks and sniff around. He's good at sleeping through the night with no potty breaks; he does sleep in his crate although I'm sure he wouldn't mind sleeping in bed with his owner. He knows how to sit and give paw for a treat. Overall he is a sweet boy with so much love to give he loves car rides and sticking his head out the window while his ears flop! If he's not doing that, he'll just take a nap in the car, he's so good at car rides He does not like blueberries or any blueberry flavored treats; he'll spit them right out!!! Other that that there's nothing else he doesn't like  his energy level would be average for a 1 year old pup, he has his spurts of energy and running around, but the next moment he will just crash and take a nap with you. He is a pretty quiet boy, not a barker, just very smiley! He loves to smile and wag his tail  Personality & Characteristics:  Personality & Characteristics: Neither toy nor food aggressive, is extremely loving and fun, happy all of the time, loves to snack, loves to lounge, usually plays with hard chew toys and durable rubber, is very respectful of his environment, has never barked or snapped aggressively or shown any signs of aggression towards anyone, is very routine oriented, loves to be outside on walks or to run around a yard, is exceptional with other dogs, incredibly friendly and seeks socialization with humans and dogs, 0 issues sleeping through the night, is very silly and goofy, loves to lounge on couches or in confined spaces like under a bed or an ottoman. My foster dog is good with: Dogs and Kids My foster dog is: House Trained, Low-Shed, 3 Keywords for your pup: Sweet, Loving, Playful Energy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 5 - will match the energy of his humans. Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Auggie is an extremely quiet dog and rarely ever barks Walking Manners: Auggie is a big sniffer given his Beagle Background, but with some treats and positive reinforcement he walks normally most of the time. Will tug when seeing new places or when he catches a good smell!  Appetite: Auggie is always hungry, which makes treat training a go-to. He takes his full meals twice per day and is super regular with his routine. Does the following: Perfect in the car, will let you brush his teeth and trim his nails, fine in the bath,  Favorite Things: Treats!!, belly rubs, naps with his humans, a nice pillow/blanket, sniffs outside, back of the ear scratches, paytime with his humans and dog friends, bene bone toys Commands/Tricks: Up, Off, Sit, Stay, Down, Place, Paw, Auggie/Come  ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. The application can be found at  WaldosRescue.org  and once you are approved to adopt you will be put in touch with the foster to see if it’s a good match. We are a RESCUE not a shelter. Story
Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :) PECAN is arriving to NYC on 2/17/24. They are available for foster to adopt starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the subject line PECAN if you are interested.  PECAN  -Beagle Mix, 2 years, 26lbs, Neutered  We cannot guarantee breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses, though! Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :) Home Recommendation We don’t know everything about this pup as they will be arriving soon. Most often our adult dogs do great in the city after a few days of adjusting to a new environment. Adult dogs are a great option for adopters who are more “green”, first time adopting or fostering. We recommend starting with an adult dog. They are much more manageable.  It’s so much fun to see their personality come out as the days go by.  Level of Dog Ownership Experience Needed PECAN  is a Beginner level adult dog. This means that we predict this dog to be an easier to manage dog due to its breed/age combo. This is a good fit for someone who is looking to adopt their first dog. Adopters should have some more experience with dogs than just petting a dog on the street. Adopters don't need to be a dog pro but should have a little bit of dog sitting or fostering experience under their belt: have taken care of a dog on their own. Adopters should be ready to commit to all things that entail dog ownership His Foster parent says:  Although Pecan is a a young adult dog, he has the abundant energy of a puppy. He loves exploring on long walks, sniffing literally everything there is to smell, and meeting every other dog we pass. Don't expect to be out and back in under an hour, he enjoys a long stroll to get his energy out and to go potty. Pecan enjoys rough housing with other dogs in the park by tackling and nipping, but it's never been a problem - except for me trying to keep him from getting tangled on his leash! He doesn't rough house unless his playmate approves. He's a jumper, often putting his paws up on me when he's excited. And when he's excited at home, usually at the prospect of going for a walk, he will go absolutely bonkers. But throughout the day and at night, he's a complete sweetheart. He loves cuddling on one of his many blankets, or sitting on the window sill looking out on the street. Whenever I go to pet him, he immediately shows tummy and begs for some chest scratches. I try to keep him off the bed, but when I wake up in the morning I find him cuddled up against my legs, and once I start stirring he comes up to be closer. Energy Level  Higher - - This dog will need a solid continuous 90 minute walk (at a minimum) in addition to potty breaks/relief walks/short walks. Working breed dogs were bred to do jobs so it’s super important to make sure that they get the right level of exercise and stimulation daily. Working breed dogs need more than just simply being “let out in the yard”.  Personality        Since these dogs are arriving soon we don’t have tons of information on their personalities. But we know that this dog is friendly with humans and other dogs. Our rescue partner does an incredible job of sending us the most awesome dogs :)  Cuddle Factor Medium - - It’s fair to expect that most adult dogs are going to be a medium level of cuddly. Some are more cuddly for sure. But medium is about the average. This means that usually they enjoy a good cuddle session but are also happy to be on their own (don’t need to be velcroed to you at all times).  Potty Trained Yes - - Our adult dogs that come to us are usually potty trained. But, transitional accidents are super common. So you should be ready for a “transition week” as they get used to your schedule and their new environment. We suggest finding dirt, grass or gravel for them to do their business on (they are coming from the south) and keeping them on a set potty schedule. Comfy With Strangers? Yes - - Most of our adult dogs are comfy with new people. But just like people, each dog has their level of extrovertness. We always like to remind people to go slow and let the dog take the lead with meeting new people!  Social With Children?  (ALWAYS requires supervision) Not Sure - - Our adult dogs do best with homes with kids that are respectful and aged 8 and up. Little kids can be scary to a lot of adult dogs.  Social With Dogs? Yes - - We know that this dog is good with other dogs. But, every dog has their own version of how much they want to engage with another dog. For example not every dog is going to love the dog park. It’s important to keep social interactions brief at first and work your way up as you get to know the dog more.  Social With Cats? Yes - - Due to the breed mix and age of this dog we believe that it would be okay in a home with a cat. Important to make sure that the cat has been around dogs before (you aren’t running the cat's life). Slow introductions are important when integrating dogs and cats. Mouthy Play   Lower - - Most adult dogs aren’t super mouthy. But this can vary, sometimes they weren’t fully trained out of their mouthy stage and can be mouthy when excited or wanting to play. We do suggest getting some good bones and things for them to be able to chew on as it is a great stress reliever during transitions.  Leash Manners Working on This Skill - -  Most of our adult dogs have to work on this skill. They are coming from the South where often they aren’t fully leash trained and not to mention they now have to deal with all of the variables of living in a city. We suggest keeping your dog on a short leash as you get to know them. We are huge advocates of teaching your dog heel, its a great way to make sure that the dog isn’t pulling you down the sidewalk.  Jumping Manners Low - - Most adult dogs are pretty good about not jumping up on humans when they are excited. But, you might have to work on this with them.  Separation Anxiety Lower - -  Most adult dogs are pretty good at being left home alone. We suggest leaving them home alone for a short amount of time (at least 10 minutes)  and see how it goes and build from there. Transitional separation anxiety can be common. Many times we hear from our fosters that the first few times they leave their dog home alone they do cry but it disappears pretty quickly the more often they do this.  Medical Status Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella Vaccine and Rabies Vaccine. Heartworm Negative, Spayed(females)/Neutered (males) and microchipped. De-wormed upon intake.   How Did They End Up With Social Tees Animal Rescue? This pup was originally left anonymously at a high volume shelter in TN where they were at risk of euthanasia. Our rescue partner based down there pulled this dog, had the initial veterinary care done, and transported them to NYC. While in Social Tees care, they are kept in attentive and loving foster homes. Many dogs are rescued from the south because the pet overpopulation problem there is much worse than it is in the northern parts of the country. This seems to be because far fewer people are having their pets spayed/neutered in the south, the climate is warmer so animals are reproducing year round, and the human population in these areas is less dense so there aren't enough people to adopt them. In NYC and the surrounding area, we have a large human population, which in turn means the animals find forever homes at a higher rate up here. :) PLEASE NOTE: This animal is not at the Social Tees office — all of our dogs and cats are in foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. :) If you’d like to apply to adopt this pet, please complete an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Because we are a small team and receive hundreds of applications each week, we are unable to respond to every application and every inquiry email, but we do our best. Please have patience! If your application is approved, you will for sure hear from us. If you have questions, please take a look at the Adoption and Fostering FAQs etc. on our website as all common questions are answered there. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to save these innocent lives!!  LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org; Instagram via @socialteesnyc; Facebook.com/socialteesanimalrescue
