Story
Racy’s life has made a drastic change for the better and we are looking for someone that wants to provide him with a “Happily ever after” rest of his life. He will need to be with someone that has a fair amount of experience with dogs as the dreadful abuse he suffered has left him a little irritable. He is still not too trusting of people at this point so he will not be a good candidate for a first-time dog owner. Until we rescued him, there was no one in his life he could trust. This poor boy was living in a nightmare of torture and abuse. Racy hid under the bed from the owner’s boyfriend, who had been released from prison, because the boyfriend hated him and beat him. We got a call for help for this poor boy and we just couldn’t say no. We still don’t know much about him yet. We just knew he was small and black. We were able to get him sheared to remove the 1 pound 10 ounces of matted hair that covered his body. He had to be tranquilized in order to do that because it was so painful. Even so, he seemed to know that the two people working on him were trying to help. He did snap at the clippers once, nicking his tongue a tad. When all you’ve known is torture from human hands, we were surprised that he wasn’t snarling and snapping the entire time. Once the matts were removed a dog that might possibly be a Shih Tzu mix with possibly some Lhasa Apso, emerged. Next, we got him to our vet for vaccinations and decided that was enough until he gets used to people being nice to him and worthy of trust. Another surprise is that he walks well on a leash. We will have him tested for heartworms at his next vet visit and get his weight. His adoption donation is $250. A fenced yard is required. If you think you can give this poor little guy a great life, and are interested in adopting him, please use the following link to find our on-line adoption application. http://dhd.coffeecup.com/forms/bhsapp/ An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember our organization is staffed completely by volunteers. Please Note: All applications are processed in the order received, but an adoption is made to the best application received for each of our animals. All applicants must provide a vet reference on the adoption application. If you are adopting a dog from ARFA, a fenced in yard for the dog will be required. Home visits often occur with each adoption. ARFA has the right to deny adoption to any applicant for any reason without explanation. Please remember that the adoption donation is not for purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical cost of all dogs in our care. THE FINE PRINT 1. Animal Rescue Fund Arkansas reserves the right to deny any application, for any reason without explanation to the applicant. 2. You understand that we often take many applications on the same animal and that they are processed in the order that they come in. An application is in no way a reservation for any animal or a guarantee that you will be selected to adopt the animal. 3. If your application Is approved, you will be asked to sign a separate adoption contract. 4. Once the trial period is over, usually 1 week unless there are special circumstances, the adoption donation cannot be returned to you for any reason. It will have been used to help rescue another homeless animal and is no longer available therefore, if you return the dog to us for any reason, you will not be refunded your donation. 5. If the animal you want to adopt is placed in another home, you can transfer your application to another A.R.F.A. animal without completing additional paperwork. 6. You understand that this is a rescued pet. We rarely have any information about their past life circumstances. We have all animals examined by a vet, brought up to date on shots, given their rabies vaccine, spayed/neutered (If old enough), wormed and checked for heartworms and if positive begin treatment. We do our best to ensure that we are placing healthy pets but can make no guarantee to the health or temperament of this pet, and vet expenses are the responsibility of the adoptive family from the date of the adoption. We require that you take the pet to a vet within one week of adoption for a check-up and to allow your vet to get a baseline for your new pet’s health.
