Desmond is a older dog and loves to lounge around. He will play when prompted but he is not very hyper. He is at the beginning stages of cataracts but can see. I give him eye drops to slow the process of deterioration.

Story
Hey there! I’m San Matteo! Named after one of the best Italian pizza places here in the UES! I live in the upper east side with my foster mom, foster sister Ivy (70# pitbull) and foster sister Sissy the cat! I love it here it’s so fun! I love playing with both my foster sisters and especially like greeting the pups, people and even kids in the neighborhood! My mom even brings me to the bar sometimes even though I’m only 4…shhh! I was found in Georgia in the streets and my fur was so long and matted my skin hurt really bad so the shelter took me in and got me a nice groom! But now my skin is healing, but my fur is coming back and boy do I look like a STUD! My mom told me I’m a shih tzu mix, but I don’t know my family so we can’t be sure. But I do know I am 100% fun and sweet! I sleep all night either in my dog bed or with my foster mom and I don’t mind when she leaves the house because I just do my relaxin. I do love when my foster mom gets home though because we go for walks and I love walking! Even though I’m a little guy I can walk for a long time it’s so fun. Anyways if you want to meet me come by my mom is always around and I’d love to meet you. Hoping I’ll find my furrever family soon. Xoxo Mateo ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. The application can be found at  WaldosRescue.org  and once you are approved to adopt you will be put in touch with the foster to see if it’s a good match. We are a RESCUE not a shelter. Story
No eyes? No worries! Sure, Butterfinger’s got some challenges. But this 13-year old, 7-pound Shih Tzu mix can hear with her ears, can smell with her nose, and can taste with her tongue. Most importantly of all, however…she can FEEL with her heart!!! And that’s what it’s ALL about! Butterfinger can peacefully coexist with anyone and anything, as long as everyone’s mindful of her visual impairment. Once she gets the lay of the land, this adaptable angel is able to navigate her environment rather nicely. She can find her water bowl, her food dish, her pee pads, and the location of her favorite dog bed. Butterfinger enjoys going out for a bit of fresh air, sniffing the lawn, and taking a brief potty break. If you feel the need to crate Butterfinger, she won’t complain. Just make it soft and cozy for her and she’ll be down for it. Whatevvverrrrrr! Butterfinger is quiet, clean, and mellow. She travels without issue and is okay with all manner of handling. She’ll wag her tail when you pet her and she lovvvves having a lap to nap on. Snuggly and sweet, Butterfinger is as easy as they come and asks for very little - - just some peace, love, serenity, and a safe place to call home. Not a tall order for a quiet little mop-head! If you would like to give this wonderful dog a home, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.pupstarzrescue.org for an application!

Story
Born 10-13-09, Teuscher is a Shih Tzu through and through. There is nothing Teuscher likes more than a nice belly rub! He has beautiful hair that grows, so he must be brushed daily and groomed regularly. Teuscher is bowlegged, and consequently we limit his activity so that he doesn’t overdo it and we avoid letting him climb stairs. Teuscher can be possessive of his toys, so we are mindful not to take anything away from him unless we trade it for a treat. Teuscher weighs 14 lbs. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. The Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We also have a great adoption matchmaking team who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. We start the process once you have submitted an application to us. Once a completed application is received, the HSNY Adoption Team will review it and we will contact you if we are going to take next steps. FOR AN APPLICATION, please visit http://humanesocietyny.org/adoptions/ and download then email your application to hsny.adopt@gmail.com. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Gideon (GA) is a neutered male Shih Tzu mix rescued in Georgia. Our veterinary partner estimates that Gideon is 10 years old at the time of intake in February 2022.  Gideon is good with people who respect his space and he's good with other dogs, but cats--not so much!  He is an adorable, albeit grumpy, senior boy who lives life on his own terms--he will let you know when you are violating his person or his space.  He doesn't like cats and he doesn't like to be picked up; he likes to have his back rubbed, but if you hit the wrong spot, watch out!  Gideon will do best in a home with snarky dog experience, where he can be independent, and if there are children they should be older and capable of respecting Gideon and his space.  This guy's rough life has shaped him, and he deserves to spend the rest of his years in a loving, forever home with his special person who understands him and lets Gideon be Gideon.  If you are Gideon's special person, please apply online to adopt Gideon (GA) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.      RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue.  All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 27, 2023, 10:48 am

Story
Meet Iris, our newest bebe who is really just a little pup that has gone through so much already. Iris is sadly blind, very thin, and has some neurological issues we are trying to diagnose right now. We believe she may have a liver shunt or potentially granulomatous meningo-encephalomyelitis, which is fancy talk for an inflammatory disease of the nervous system or brain. She is so sweet, but is lethargic, likely due to whatever is causing her to be ill. We are currently looking for a foster willing to take her to her neurology appointments, but are also deeply in need of donations for her care. Iris is such a sweet little noodle, and we hope that we can get her worked up soon so she can get back to being a playful little puppy!

Story
Shaggy is a 4 year old mix breed dog born on 1/18/19. I had the pleasure of adopting him when he was 4 months old from a family friend who was unable to keep him in their household. Shaggy is loving, kind, and full of energy. He’s always ready to lay fetch, keep away, or tug-o-war. Shaggy is a smart dog knowledgeable of a number of tricks and always ready to learn. Shaggy is a dog who loves going on walks, however he has some ways to go when it comes to his leash training. Additionally, shaggy was once potty trained to go indoors, but has since taken a stand on only relieving himself outdoors. I’m looking to rehome shaggy so he can be the loving and energetic dog he deserves to be. My life has become increasingly busy and I no longer have the time nor energy to dedicate to loving and caring for him the way he deserves. His new home should have at least one or two other pets he can engage and play with. He should also have an owner who has time and patience to spare.

Gizmo is the dog for you if you’re looking for a boy that wants to be beside you, no matter what! You understand that he communicates by growling along with nasty comments, and you don’t mind that he will bark and scratch at doors to get your attention when you leave him. He will also help keep friends and family away by barking, growling and snapping at them when they get close to you. He is a happy and playful boy that loves squeak toys and will insist on sleeping beside you and may pee in your bed Interested in becoming a forever home for Gizmo Giblets?
