Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 2/1/2022 Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Posh is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 02/09/22 Posh had entropion repair on his lower eyelid. He also had a dental polishing and a deep ear cleaning. Posh can be prone to ear infections. Keeping his ears clean is imperative.  Weight: 45 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Posh is an active dog that has had a lot of change over the last 8 months. He needs stability and patience and continued socialization. Posh is an alpha male and needs an owner that will commit to positive reinforcement training and redirection of behaviors. Posh prefers women to men so an alpha female owner is his ideal home. Posh could live with other dogs (he always has) or be the only dog. Posh is not good with children and will not be placed in a home with children. He requires SLOW introductions to new people. What is my personality like? Posh and his brother Hans were the beloved companions of a single professional. Sadly, significant health challenges made caring for Posh impossible and he was surrendered to rescue to help him find the right forever home.  Posh's owner describes him as a a big, happy love bug - he thinks he is a toy poodle lap dog! He loves to give big hugs and kisses. Posh is not fond of the vet or of grooming but with lots of gentle persuasion it can be managed.  Here is what our caregivers say about this beautiful boy. Posh is a sweet boy that is looking for a mama. The reason I say “mama” is because posh takes direction from women very easily where as he is a little slower to warm up with men. He needs someone that can keep him in line. He is all boy! Posh does well with other dogs; he enjoys the company of dogs his size. Occasionally when he’s over stimulated you’ll have to correct him and let him know he’s being a little too much. Posh is not the best with strangers - you have to buy this boy's love with treats and patience. He does not appreciate being approached without permission and will let you now his displeasure. Posh slightly pulls on a leash and will need some leash training. He would excel at any type of positive reinforcement training as he is very intelligent. Posh loves belly rubs and does very good about keeping his crate clean. It is required posh have a crate in the home this will help his transition to a new environment as well as give him a place to retreat to when he’s feeling overwhelmed. How do I act when I first meet new people? A little timid, but incredibly treat motivated Other tips and tidbits: Posh is 3.5 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 2/1/2019. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Loo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Loo has itchy skin that could be seasonal allergy or food related. He has responded well to antibiotics, but is something his forever home will continue to monitor as it does cause some hair loss. Weight: 37 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Loo is looking for a home where he will be able to play all day and exert all of his energy. Loo needs a doggy companion who can show him the ropes and balance out his outgoing personality but also be a playmate. Since Loo is so young he is still figuring out how to be sure of himself, and we believe that he will blossom into a confident and outgoing dog. Loo does well with dogs of all sizes, and doesn’t pay much attention to cats so believe he will be fine in a home with cats.  What is my personality like? For a young dog, Loo has lived a lot of life. He arrived in rescue via a NC shelter to which he was surrendered. His original owners had rehomed him on Craigslist (we don't know why) and his new owners surrendered him to a shelter after less than 48 hours in the home. That is a lot of change in a short amount of time and Lou was panicked as you can imagine.  As Loo has settled into life in rescue, we have seen a wonderful personality emerge. Loo still has a lot of puppy energy since he just recently turned a year old. He has never met a stranger and loves everyone. He is one outgoing boy, the caregivers here all love his spunky antics. He also loves to be held like a baby (check out some of the photos on his profile of his caregiver holding him!).  Loo would be the perfect hiking, or running buddy but he does need some fine tuning with his leash skills. He is super dog friendly and enjoys running and playing with his buddies here at the farm all day long. Since arriving here at the farm Loo has presented some skin issues but he is on the road to overcoming them with a special diet. We believe these issues came from either allergies or a food sensitivity.  Loo is timid and fearful at the vet. With his caregivers he is a very social and loving dog. Something about the smells of a vet's office makes him nervous and you will see a more timid and anxious dog in this setting. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Loo is estimated at 1 year old. We celebrate his birthday as 2/10/2022. House trained? Bailey is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Bailey has history with vets. His records indicate challenges being vetted; our vet was able to examine him without issue, but allowed the exam to proceed at Bailey's pace and on his terms. Bailey wants everything on his terms. Your vet will need to be prepared to go slow, let him build trust, have lots of treats ready, and offer him confidence.  Weight: 35 lbs Height: 16 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Bailey seeks a family and home to call his own. He is a cute, mid-sized pup with a personality larger than life. Bailey is accustomed to living life on his terms. He is affectionate, but not in your face. He does not like to be told what to do and will remind you that he is independent and lives life his way. Bailey loves his people and enjoys being around them. He politely asks for his next family kids' not be the baby size. Babies make Bailey a little uneasy. Bailey can get along with other dogs his size or bigger if they are calm and not too rowdy. Bailey has not been cat tested.  Bailey needs a savvy dog owner. If allowed, he will be alpha of the home, including over humans. He is not for a first time dog owner or for an owner looking for a submissive dog. He is smart and likes life on his terms. Think of him as an independent soul. What is my personality like? Bailey was purchased as a young pup by his family. His family went thru a divorce and unfortunately for Bailey, he was passed along to wife and then to the husband and neither of them could give him the home he deserves. Bailey is a sweet guy but not overly affectionate. He's a little spunky when the mood strikes but overall he's a mellow guy that likes to watch the world float by.  Bailey can be reactive if his people grab his collar and try to pull him around. If you need to catch him quickly, the best way that's the most comfortable for Bailey is with a leash and a bag of treats. Bailey is super food motivated and will happily do anything you ask of him. He was very well trained by his former family. He knows all the basics but his recall is unreliable. He is crate trained. We would recommend he have a crate to go into in his new home.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Bailey is a super sweet gentleman. He will kindly come over to you and check you out. If you offer food then you've already won him over. If you provide a cozy lap then you're his bestie.  Other tips and tidbits: Bailey's family stated he was 10 years old when surrendered to rescue. We celebrate his birthday as 11/19/2012. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. Jules Verne is a very special boy with a very congenital brain disorder called polymircogyria. This condition has only been reported in 4 canines (all Standard Poodles) and few cattle. Some of the symptoms accompanied with Jules’ condition include vision impairment, some hearing loss, loss of sense of balance, loss of motor skills, and (sometimes) very fast, sudden, uncontrollable movements of the limbs. Due to this condition he is vision impaired and only hears high pitched sounds. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. If you are considering welcoming this special boy into your home, please do your research on this condition in dogs. We will also happily discuss all that we know with you and share detailed medical reports from the neurologists that have seen Jules Verne and diagnosed him. Weight: 42 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: No Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? Yes, Jules requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller What kind of home would be best for me? There are dogs that are special, and then there is Jules Verne. He is one of only 4 known diagnosed cases of his brain disorder. Lack of vision and hearing do not slow him down - he is the happiest, most playful boy you will meet. There is simply nothing better than watching Jules Verne play and live his best life! We are looking for a home that will understand and appreciate Jules Verne for who he is. His normal will always look different than other dogs. He would be happy with another large female dog, or as your only pet. No small dogs or cats please. Jules Verne wants a home where he can play, enjoy a fenced yard, and where someone will appreciate his uniqueness and recognize the beauty it creates. He is not well suited for a home with children. What is my personality like? Jules Verne. What a boy! Jules was rehomed for free from his breeder as a puppy part of a difficult birth and and a mom that wouldn't nurse. The family that welcomed him quickly realized something was not "normal". Their standard poodle puppy was wobbly, didn't seem to be able to be seen, and was just off. Over a month he only seemed to get worse and was ultimately diagnosed by their vet as having suspected brain lesions. The vet recommended euthanasia. The family was overwhelmed and reached out to rescue for help. Upon arrival in rescue, we recognized that Jules was definitely vision impaired and also hearing impaired. He only hears high pitched sounds. His owners had suggested he may have seizures. So we set out on a journey to understand what we were working with. Our first effort was to rule out a liver shunt. Thankfully, Jules Verne's liver functions just fine. Next up was a neurology consult and MRI. The MRI revealed that Jules Verne has a rare, congenital brain disorder called polymicrogyria. This condition has been rarely described in dogs, but in humans the prognosis appears to be variable for each individual case. It can lead to seizures and behavioral changes over time. There are no other dogs quite like Jules Verne. Although Jules has a rare neurological condition that has greatly affected his brain since being in utero, this boy is as sweet as you could ever imagine to his people. Jules absolutely loves and adores the people he trusts the most. Once you and Jules spend enough time together, he will love you for as long as he lives. While Jules can coexist with other male dogs, he can be selective with the male dogs that he likes. He definitely prefers female canine companions over males. You can occasionally sneak a peek of Jules playing with his lady friends, and other times, you can catch him doing his own thing whether that be napping in the sun, sniffing everything out, or simply romping about by himself. Jules also absolutely LOVES toys; specifically durable rubber ones. He will eventually find a way to destroy each toy piece by piece, but is perfectly content receiving a brand new one to have fun with. Another thing about Jules is he has to have his safe space. His just so happens to be his crate. Jules will willingly go in and out of his crate as he pleases, though sometimes he could use a bit of help from his favorite human going in or coming out. Jules is always on the go, no matter the day, rain or shine. This boy has lots of energy on his good days, and can be a bit reserved on other days. Another thing about Jules, is that he LOVES food. Kibble, treats, snacks, anything that he deems good enough, is the key to this boys heart. Jules has no idea that he is different than all of the other dogs. From the people that know and love Jules, he is just as normal and quirky as any other canine. Once Jules considers you trustworthy and a relationship is created, Jules will show his sweet, loving, and affectionate demeanor to them. Jules is a very special boy who is loved by so so many, different or not. In all reality, it’s Jules Vernes’ world, and we’re all just living in it. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Jules Verne's birthday is 12/11/2020 House trained? He was surrendered immediately.  Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Romeo is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 7/5/23 Romeo had a dental polishing. Romeo walks differently than most dogs. We've had radiographs completed and exam and found nothing physically wrong. Our vet noted that he has under developed femoral muscles that may be affecting his gait. Romeo has allergies and eats a restricted limited AG diet. His skin will relapse very quickly if he eats something that he is allergic to - It manifests as diffuse skin infections. Romeo has suspected cervical spondylopathy. Cervical vertebral instability (CVI) or spondylomyelopathy (CSM) is a collection of abnormalities usually involving the caudal cervical vertebrae of large-breed dogs.  Weight: 68 lbs Height: 26 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless! Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Given his history, we're looking for an adults-only home for Romeo. He is good with other dogs, male and female, big and small, but still prefers his people over canines. He would do fine as an only dog receiving all of the attention, but would also be good with another dog in the home who is calm like he is and can show him the rules of your home.  What is my personality like? Romeo is a 6 year old male Standard Poodle/Golden Retriever and was brought to CPR as an owner release to a shelter in June of 2023. Romeo is a bit like a tale of 2 dogs. The owners who surrendered Romeo described a dog that has been on behavioral modification medicine (he isn't anymore) and a dog that had snapped at a child when a door was opened and the child tried to restrain him. We don't know any details of his home life or what circumstances may have led to this behavior, but this isn't the dog we have observed in rescue.  At our rescue, Romeo is a very fun loving, happy go lucky guy. He doesn’t know what a stranger is and is looking for attention anywhere he can get it. Romeo walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and is extremely eager to please. He knows basic commands including sit and shake. Romeo loves people more than anything, and needs a home where his family can give him constant attention and affection to keep him satisfied. While Romeo does enjoy going on adventures every now and then, he would prefer to be laid back and take things slowly. He is a moderate-low energy guy and doesn’t require lots of energy outlets or stimulation. Romeo loves water and is always down for a hike or adventure, as long as he can come back home and nap for the rest of the day. He wants to be with his people 24/7 and wants to go everywhere they go.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Romeo's exact birthdate is unknown.  We estimated it to be 6/10/2017.  We know the family who turned him in to the shelter had him for 4 years but we do not know if he was an adult when he first came to them.  House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 11/3/2023 Reason for being in rescue: Stewie was transferred from another rescue group. He was originally from a hoarding situation. Foster location: Stewie resides in foster home near the rescue. Special Needs? Stewie absolutely needs another dog in his home, he will not be placed into a home without a dog. Weight: 48 lbs and growing - we expect Stewie will be 55-60 lbs when full grown Height: 20 in and growing - we expect Stewie will be 24" when full grown Spayed/Neutered: Yes, Stewie was neutered on 12/15/23 Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes, Stewie requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Stewie is looking for a patient and understanding home. Stewie must have another dog in his home, he relies on happy playful dogs. Stewie wants a home with young adults, his foster mom is in her early 20s and this seems to be Stewie's preference on people. A more mature couple would be fine as well as long as Stewie's active needs are met. He takes to women faster than men. Stewie wants a home with no cats as chasing cats is very fun for him. He can live with small dogs as he currently does. Truthfully, the more dogs you have in your home, the happier Stewie will be. Stewie's perfect home will need to love him quirks and all.  What is my personality like? Stewie is the most loving and affectionate with his foster. He bounces around his foster mom's feet and is always looking for her. If you were watching Stewie through a TV screen with his foster mom, you would think he is a well adjusted dog. And he is, in his foster home. Stewie relies on his foster mom as a security blanket. He adores her and is truly convinced he has found his forever home. Us humans in the rescue world have to look at the full picture, fostering is about saving one life at a time so we can save hundreds over time. Someone will need to commit to coming to meet Stewie and know that you will have to break his heart this one time so YOU can be his happily ever after. We know Stewie bonds hard once he bonds. Stewie has the potential to be someone's very best companion if they can just give him appropriate time to settle and learn about his new life.  Stewie is leash trained, off leash trained (with foster mom), crate trained, mostly house trained, and is working on basic commands. He's smart and inquisitive, Stewie is young and ready to learn as much as he can. How do I act when I first meet new people? Anti social and frantic, give him time and he will settle. You should expect a fairly long meet and greet if you apply to adopt Stewie. Other tips and tidbits: Stewie is estimated at 8 months old. We celebrate his birthday 5/29/2023. Thank you for considering CPR. April 24, 2024, 5:00 pm
