Story
Look at this adorable lady who is happy, quiet, and eager to please! Life experience has taught her that the greatest blessing is to have a loving family so if you are looking for a sweet companion - you have found her! We think she is around 10-12 years old so while she doesn't play with toys much, she does have lots of love to give! She has limited sight, but she can climb doggy steps up to the couch and find all the important things - especially her food and water :) She loves food so her foster mom got her a special slow bowl to make her meals last longer. She is mostly potty trained -she tries to go to the door and alert you but if you are gone too long then sometimes she can't wait. She does well exploring the backyard and returning to the house. She is good with other doggies but would also be fine in a home of her own. She currently sleeps in a crate, but your bed or her own bed are good options too! Her little tail wags a lot and she is happy on her own taking a snooze in a dog bed or laying on your lap. So give and get some joy with Mrs. Frizzle! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.

Story
Meet Coal, he was lost on the streets of Conroe and after due diligence trying to find his owners we had no luck. We do know that he is very fond of men and would like to hang around with them, but he does like women as he loves getting his belly rubs while we are resting in the lounging chair. He is crate trained and goes in there when needing to get some alone time on his own. Or he just prefers to lay right outside of it for comfort. He prefers to not be picked up and put in the kennel, but he will go in nicely with a treat thrown in. No accidents in the house but is let out with the other dogs often in the backyard and prefers to sniff on his own away from the rest.  He is super fast when walking by your side around the house so you may not know he is there, so when opening doors please check to see his location. As he will be the 1st one out and if there are front doors, garage doors open he will go to explore as he is learning his name and his new surroundings. He is treat motivated but meeting new people and surroundings he may need some time to warm up. He likes to play to tug but gently. Older children would be fine. Walks good on leash. Up to date on shots and neutered and ready for a forever family that will give him the love and affection and time to be his best.April 23, 2024, 1:44 am

Story
Hello, I’m a sweet baby girl with a lot of energy to run and play, after all I’m just 5 months old going on 6. The family that had me before named me Encanto - title of a Disney movie, but my foster mom calls me Champagne because the color of my fur…that is a Champagne color.   I am looking for a family that will truly love me, and would never ever leave me behind like my previous owners did. I’m hoping to find my hooman & that he or she & the rest of my future family loves me for all my life. April 23, 2024, 1:44 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Bite History! (minor)Nibbles is a GREAT dog! He loves to be the BOSS DOG and is protective of his humans. He devours and loves his squeaky toys and is a lovely addition.  This little nugget did get a bit 'defensive' and bit.  We don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the bite.  The shelter reports it was  'minor' bite.  We will tell you he presented as defensive and unfriendly at our vet.  We were able to administer an anti-anxiety drug to help him deal with the stress of being poked/prodded.  He was NOT happy about it, but we were able to get him vetted! We are working on helping him to learn trust.  His adopter will need to be prepared to continue this type of counter-conditioning to help him become less reactive  and more trusting and open to love. We have been able to crate him, and he does well in a crate.  He's a great little dog who will get along with females, but is male selective.    He can (and will) climb a baby gate.  He's really very sweet and loves to be loved.  He will roll over and show you his belly.   He dislikes strangers and his family will need to give him some time to decompress and learn to trust.   PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS DOG IF YOU HAVE OR PLAN TO GET ANOTHER MALE DOG  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 21, 2024, 9:45 pm
