Hi there, I'm Dude! I've got a heart full of love and a spirit that's eager to play. I'm the kind of dog who loves to be around people, making everyone feel special with my sweet nature. I'm also good with other dogs, so I'd be a great addition to a family with other furry friends. I'm just a friendly, sweet guy looking for a forever home where I can share my love and companionship. Adopt me, and let's create beautiful memories together! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). My name is Paddy and I am a tricolor & black treeing walker coonhound/beagle mix. I am an intact male (I will be neutered before I am adopted) and I am 5 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 04/18/2024 due to the fact I was not a good fit with the children in the home. They were my family for 3-6 months. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am still learning how to be potty trained - I know to poop outside, but still sometimes have pee accidents. I am a high energy dog and I will need an owner with some prior pet owning experience. I am used to staying in crates when I am alone or need to be safely contained. I am still learning to walk nicely on a leash - I pull/tug a bit when being walked. There are lots of things you can do to get me to walk comfortably and safely on a leash. The staff can tell you all about it! I would do well with some puppy obedience training to set me up for success. I do not have a history of trying to escape the home or yard, but the shelter staff always recommends owners be mindful that I do not accidentally get out a door or escape the yard. I do not need a fenced yard, however it would always be nice to have one so I can run free in a safe space! I can be good with men and women. I do not do well with children - they are too loud and active for me and I am too bossy with them. I cannot live with cats and I can be good with other dogs. My owner said I loves to play outside. I love my ropes and squeaky toy, and my kong chewy as well.All dogs are over 6 months of age are tested for heartworms. Dogs also receive heartworm and flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

When Irish eyes are smiling, does that mean they are happy? Or maybe they had too many pints at the pub? My eyes are smiling, and I am a non drinker, just want to have full disclosure here! Even though my eyes were smiling in these pictures. I was desperate for help for my little one, Lewis. You see, he was dying...full of internal and external parasites he really had no fight left in him and I knew it as his mother... so I used my Irish eyes to get us saved. AND IT WORKED!! Our lives are do amazing now, Lewis is alive and well after some very intense care, and ADOPTED INTO AN AMAZING HOME!!! I am not ever producing more babies, so it is all good! Now I get my turn for love, comfort and safety and a FOREVER HOME!! I am an adorable girl, about 50# of low-rider basset/heeler-ness. I am great with other dogs and like to play keep away! I am ready when you are, do your stuff so we can ride off into the sunset, in air conditioning, of course! Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen. EVERYBODY LOVES PAY DAY :) Not just me, right?? I am PAY DAY!!! So love me too??? I am a sweet and really CUTE guy, found on the streets looking for food. It's a sad story- as they all are... how come it happens over and over and over again by the rescue?? Only God knows, the rescuers suspect but only God knows why pups/dogs are constantly found near the rescue. ANYWAY, I was one of the fortunate ones who made it into the safe place, the rescue :0 NOW I am READY for MY FAMILY!!!
