Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application  Hedgesville Hounds took in Betty in December 2023.  While clearly very shy, her evaluators perceived a dog who wanted to trust humans and had a sweetness about her that was very promising.  Since coming into care, Betty’s health has improved by leaps and bounds.  Weighing about 27 pounds when she came to us, she now weighs a long, lean, and leggy 44 pounds.  Her once dull and rough coat is softer and shines in the sunlight.  Betty came to Hedgesville Hounds burdened with heartworms.  She did very well during her heartworm treatment and after 3 months of treatment, is now clear of any heartworm disease. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Because of the heartworm disease, Betty spent months on crate rest.  Since being released from her physical restrictions, Betty has enjoyed her freedom and progressed to daily runs around the yard with other dogs and by herself, leaping off the deck and rolling around in the grass, chasing robins on the ground and buzzards in the air, even adding silly leaps and twists just for the sheer fun of it.  Betty’s foster Mom thinks she is mixed with some kind of site hound, like Whippet or Greyhound.  Betty is streamlined in shape, has long and delicate legs, a sleek head, and doesn’t like to SIT.  Her favorite positions are standing and fully reclining.  Jumping up on items does not come naturally to her, hence her rare use of the couch and her current inability to jump into the back of the car.  She doesn’t mind being lifted into the car and climbs right into the car crate.  She is an excellent and quiet car passenger. Betty is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. She may whine a bit at first, but then she settles down well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash.  Her foster mom has been using a Gentle Leader head halter, which works better for her than a no-pull harness. Betty will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. It seems like Betty is going through a second puppyhood as she has been exploring her world by mouth.   Nothing has been damaged beyond repair, but her new family will want to keep items out of her reach and continue to teach her what is appropriate to chew on.  Betty occasionally chews her Nylabones or soft chew toys.  She also really enjoys her Collagen Retriever Rolls (rawhide replacements). Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is a necessity.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  Betty has come a long way since she joined Hedgesville Hounds.  She has proven that our initial assessment of her sweetness was spot on.  She probably won’t win any obedience titles; however, if you’re looking for a gentle dog to simply love you unconditionally, well, Betty has the rule book memorized! click here to send a non-binding application

Story
Our sweet Abby is just a joy to be around. She came from a high kill shelter in South Carolina. We actually saw her on Facebook when they were begging for someone to get her out of there. She was 24 hours away from being euthanized. There are so very many stray hound dogs and the shelters run out of room so they only stay for so long before they are put to sleep. It's very sad. Abby is the sweetest, most loving girl that you will ever meet. She just loves everybody! She is a full blooded Walker hound, approximately 2 years young. She came with heart worms but we treated her and now she is heart worm free. She is also crate trained, fully vaccinated, microchipped and ready for her forever home! could that be you? PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $500

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Chloe is an angel in a furry, four-legged body. Her foster is very impressed with her and says; 'She is sooooo sweet! Only had 2 accidents in the house and nothing in the crate. She is like a magnet. Likes to be right by your side and is learning to play with toys. Doesn’t really pay mind to my dogs at all she wags her tail but doesn’t try to engage' She represents all that is wonderful about beagles. Because she is a hound, we will require a physical fencing for her to keep her and her nose from following any irrestible scents and to keep her safe. She is interested in everything and is going to make your walks more fun than you can imagine, as she points out all the great stuff along the way that you have been missing without her. A lovely temperament and a desire to keep herself clean are such good qualities. Bringing Honey into your life is a good choice if you like smiling, kisses, and a best friend who wants to be with you. She promises to listen to everything you say and not tell another soul! If you are interested in Honey, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 24, 2024, 8:20 pm

I'm a 3 1/2 year old hound! I love being with my humans and my other dog brother who is a chihuahua, but I don't like all dogs, so slow introductions are necessary. I don't really do well with kids. I'd need to be with a family with no kids. I am a little leery of strangers, so it takes me a little bit to trust adults. But after that I'm all yours! I love being outside, taking walks, and curling up on my dog bed. If you are looking for a new companion, look no further! Please consider adopting me!  My owner is also willing to provide several bags of food with my adoption. If you are interested in adopting Scout, please contact: Tim Rodrigo rodrigo40@verizon.net Phone: 717-756-4687Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 24, 2024, 8:20 pm

Story
My name is Winnie and I am a loving 7 year old, 50 pound girl that is a beautiful Hound breed called a Tree Walker.   I was found as a stray in the middle of a rural highway and I am such a soft and gentle girl that loves to lay around and sleep and just be an easy couch potato friend. I am housebroken, love a good tummy rub, pretty nice to all other dogs that I meet and I would be a great companion to a senior, retired person or couple who are looking for an easy dog to love.  I am healthy and spayed and microchipped and I am told that I am pretty, too.  Would you like to have a sweet companion for the next 7-8 years.  I will be happy to make your life so much more special if you invite me home.  Critter Cavalry Rescue is ready to help you adopt me if you write to them at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm
