Story

If ever there was a pup in need of a happy ever after, it's Rusty. This boy was the last dog to be pulled from the shelter kill list. Why? It certainly wasn't because he was a bad boy. Instead it was because of his eye. He had a growth in his eye that was bloody and obscuring his vision. People didn't want to risk taking on his vet bills, but we couldn't let this sweet soul be euthanized. We worked with a wonderful rescue partner to pull him out of the shelter and get him veterinary care. We were able to have the growth surgically removed and then waited with bated breath to see if the growth was cancerous. We just got the good news that the growth was completely benign (not cancerous)!!! Hurray for Rusty! Rusty is about 2 years old and weighs 57 pounds. He gets along wonderfully with people; but we think that he will do best as an only dog since he can be selective (especially with other males). He's a high energy dog (who wouldn't be after regaining sight!) and would do great with an active family. He's good on a leash and good in the car. He's already picked up on a few commands such as 'sit' and he understands 'no.' Rusty is more than ready to find his forever home and start a new chapter of life - one filled with love, heath and happiness! Personality: friendly, affectionate, resilient, active, loves water, good in car Good with: people. Will do best as only dog. Has not been cat tested yet. Esme is a simple girl that came to our attention at Critter Cavalry Rescue as she struggled to find a place to raise her 7 puppies that she birthed. The odds were stacked but she managed to bring 3 of the 7 puppies through to the place that they could be adopted during the coming weeks. This girl is 2 years old, weighs 35 pounds and has a sleek, beautiful demeanor that speaks to everyone she meets with a kindness and courage. Esme is learning how to enjoy the niceties of being an inside dog as she has raised her puppies. She is housebroken, crate trained and is good with all the other dogs and cats at the foster home. She is around young active children (boys) and she keeps her calm demeanor through all the activities of the children. She loves people so much and just to be with someone. She is food motivated and very bright and can learn so much if you use the treat method to win her attention and desire to learn a trick or commands. She is a great medium energy girl that is ready to chase a toy or ball but has not gotten the memo on how to bring it back to the person who threw it. She is wonderful on a leash and has a slight playful side to her. This pretty girl is really not big at all and on the smaller side of a Lab and she demands little from life or her people. Bogey is up to date on core vaccinations and is microchipped. MEET ME IN NORTHAMPTON, MA! I JUST MOVED HERE! Howdy folks. My name is Tina, and I am a pretty and petite German Shorthaired Pointer/Shar-Pei mix, about 2 years old, and I weigh just 32 lbs. I was brought into the City of San Antonio “Kill” shelter as possibly being hit by a car, but just had a few scrapes, and nothing was broken, thank goodness! I was having a problem with my right eye squinting, which the shelter couldn't figure out, and another local vet thought my eyelid might be curling in, but when I came up positive for a tick disease, easily treated with 30 days of Doxycycline, my eye cleared up, and it turns out it was one of the symptoms. These days, I am happy and healthy, no longer squinting, and I’m ready to find a forever home! I am a very sweet and easygoing girl, and I make friends easily with everyone I meet. I’m talkin’ kids, dogs, cats, strangers, men, women, I’m lovely. I am playful and lovable and have never barked once at my foster home. I am well-behaved, already housebroken, walk well on a leash, and will sit nicely in the passenger seat or back seat on a car ride. I’m not really into dog toys, but I’m into pleasing my people, and just so you know, I’m a very sound sleeper! Inquire about me today.
