Story
Hello, I'm Benny, a delightful Yorkie who's been told I'm quite the looker! At 2 years old, I'm bubbling with energy and always ready for fun. I embody all the classic traits of a Yorkie – I'm lively, spirited, and love to take charge, but in the most adorable way, of course. Whether it's indoors or outdoors, count me in for a game of tug or fetch! I'm a social butterfly, making friends with cats, dogs, and humans alike. However, I do have a sensitive side and can feel a bit lonely if left alone for too long. I thrive on attention and routine, and I'm searching for a forever home with a parent who can provide just that. While I may sometimes get a little nibbly -resource guarding my special treats and loved ones- with the right guidance and affection, I'm sure to blossom into a well-behaved companion. I'm a quick learner and eager to pick up new tricks and manners. If you're ready to shower me with love and patience, I'm ready to be your loyal and charming companion for life. Let's embark on this journey together! Apply online at compassionforpaws.ca Thanks!

Story
We recently had this handsome boy join our rescue. Rufus is a 2-year-old (on the large size) Yorkie who weighs approximately 18 lbs. He’s lived in a puppy mill all his life and been housed in a barn. As with all the mill dogs we take, he has many new experiences ahead of him. Justifiably, he is a little nervous about being handled, but not aggressive. He is well behaved, friendly, and very affectionate with people. He was recently neutered. Rufus likes to sleep with his foster parents but will also sleep in a bed beside them. He loves rolling upside down. Stairs are no problem. He has not been walked on a leash yet but loves to run around the backyard. He's quite the foodie... Rufus eats like he has never seen food before. He has a big appetite and eats Royal Canin Adult canned food with chopped chicken. Rufus is not 100% housebroken but will use puppy pads (sometimes) and goes outside as well. We use a belly band on him because he sometimes marks. There is another male dog in his foster home so this can be a cause of marking. He will need some time and training. As noted above, he’s not been handled much and understandably was fearful with being groomed.  He was terribly matted and covered in sawdust shavings when he arrived.  Over the course of a few days our groomer was able to finish his grooming. He is good with most dogs but doesn’t get along with the male dog in the foster home.  He would be fine as an only dog or with dogs he’s comfortable with. He can bark sometimes when left alone but has not been destructive. He is a bit nocturnal and likes to “party” (run around and play) in the middle of the night.April 17, 2024, 6:49 am

Story
We recently welcomed Reese our rescue; she is from a puppy mill. She is a Yorkie who weighs approximately 7 lbs, and is 1 year old.   Reese came to us from a puppy mill and has little life experience and a lot of new things to process. She is doing very well so far. She likes people and will play with dogs. She is quite the cuddler and prefers to sleep in bed with her foster parents. Even though she is tiny, Reese can scale a large bank of stairs in leaps and bounds. She loves her toys and often drags them into her foster parents bed or her own dog bed. We would recommend that Reese be placed in a small crate when travelling by car. She doesn’t appear to be frightened, but will move around a lot if not contained. So far Reese is partially housebroken. She will go outside or on puppy pads, but sometimes she misses the pee pad. She might need a little help with that. Reese is being fostered with 3 adult dogs and we are feeding her Royal Canin Adult food (canned) and Performatrin Ultra (kibble). She has a very big appetite and eats 2 meals a day. Benny Bully are her favourite treats. We haven't left her on her own as yet, so we don’t know if she will bark or not. She has not been destructive, but loves running around the house at high speeds and rolling around in beds, pulling up blankets and pillows and tossing them about. She is a busy little girl and wants to be with you all the time. Unfortunately Reese was a matted mess when she arrived from the puppy mill and we had to give her a short haircut. She is nervous when groomed and it was difficult to trim her face. Healthwise Reese has a tremor. The vets thought neurological or maybe a liver shunt.  We did tests to rule our a liver shunt so now we are left with a probably diagnosis of    .  We believe it is something she was born with and should not affect her moving forward however the tremor will remain. It can be a little more pronounced when she is stressed. She has been vaccinated, chipped and spayed recently. Reese is a feisty and active little girl who would certainly make a lovely pet. She could probably live in a house or apartment. We do not recommend a home with young children.     April 17, 2024, 6:49 am

Story
Silky was found as a stray near an apartment complex in South Korea. No one came to claim him at the shelter so a local rescue pulled him due to euthanasia risk. Silky is a 1 year old, male, Yorkie mix, very sweet, friendly, good with dogs, can be cat tested, and simply needs a forever family. He is neutered, utd vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, and comes with a Vet Health Certificate. If interested, please email dcdgavel@gmail.com for an adoption application.
