At 2 years old and 48 pounds, Maple is a compact pittie powerhouse with a heart just as big as her personality. This smart, soulful girl has been absolutely thriving in her foster home—and especially in training class, which is hands-down the highlight of her week! Maple lives for learning. She lights up when it’s time to work and loves showing off all the skills she’s mastered. She’s bright, eager, and incredibly tuned in to her people. With guidance and consistency, Maple truly shines. A Star Student Maple has been putting in the work and it shows! She enjoys structure and does best with a clear, consistent schedule. She looks to her humans for direction and feels most confident when they advocate for her—especially when new people or dogs are approaching. She’ll thrive with adopters who: Appreciate a smart, trainable dog Can continue reinforcing her training Provide calm, confident leadership Help her navigate new situations at her pace Training isn’t just something Maple does—it’s something she loves. It’s a wonderful bonding experience for her and her person. Snuggles, Stuffy Toys & Squirrel Patrol When she’s off duty, Miss Maple is all about the cozy life. She adores snuggling with her humans, happily curls up after a day of activity, and takes her stuffed toys very seriously. Neighborhood walks are another favorite pastime—though she’s quite certain she can catch any squirrel in her path if given the opportunity! She’s affectionate, loyal, and deeply devoted to her people. Just see how much on her IG posts @meyas_mutts! Her Ideal Home Maple is not usually dog-reactive out and about, but she is dog selective and will need a careful introduction and time to acclimate to living with another large breed dog. She does best with slow, thoughtful introductions to new people and dogs and appreciates when her family helps manage those interactions. Her perfect match will: Be an adult-only or older-teen household Be committed to continued training and structure Understand that slow introductions set her up for success Want a loving, loyal companion who forms a deep bond A Note about Adoption Events: While Maple loves to meet new folks one on one, Adoption Events can be too chaotic and unpredictable for this sensitive girl. Introducing Gunnar, the people-loving pup with an infectious happy wiggle-bum! Gunnar is a bundle of energy and adores playtime, especially with his treasured stuffed toys. He might have missed out on toys in his past, which is why he occasionally likes to hang on to them.Gunnar enjoys socializing with other dogs in playgroups, although he can get a bit too excited during walks when he spots a canine friend. Gunnar has a strong sit and a motivation for treats which will help make training fun! Gunnar would love an active home with ample physical and mental stimulation and without young children.10/30/23 17:47Reason animal needs rescue: Behavior, extended length of stayType: BehaviorDate animal needs rescue by: ASAPAdditional notes: Gunnar has been in the shelter since 11/2022. Story
04/25/2025Here is Brutus` report card from Tails and Trails! What did we do on today’s adventure: Once my new human friend clipped on theadventure leash, I knew this was going to be a fun day! I jumped into the car right away, eager to get on with our adventure. The car ride was smooth like a belly rub. I just chilled in the back, watching the world zoom by.Then! Oh boy, then we arrived at this magical place. Trees everywhere! And the ground smelled like a million different things! My nose went into overdrive. Sniff, sniff, SNIFF! There were so many exciting messages on every blade of grass and every tree trunk. I just had to read them all.I did five miles of pure sniffing and zooming around the trail. Sometimes I getexcited about squirrels or these mysterious critters that run across the trail and need to investigate, but then I remember to check in with my human to make sure that is ok to do. Afterall, they always seem to have yummy treats in theirpocket.Lots of other humans went by on the path, some running, some walking, some on those two-wheeled things. I didn`t bark or anything silly. I just watched them go by; I`m a cool dude like that. In the car ride back, I snoozed a bit dreaming of squirrels and new smells!14/10 - today was awesome! What should potential adopters know about me:Brutus immediately trusted me when I came to pick him up. He seems to get on more with humans than dogs. He didn’t react to other dogs to the trail, but he was definitely interested and trying to pull towards them. He can be a strong puller, so it will take someeffort to manage him on walks, but if you engage him with treats he can develop a really solid “heel”. He will definitely be fixated on the human at the other end of the leash and want to engage with you.He just loves being right next to you for pets and will give you plenty of kisses in return. He’s very calm during car rides and will jump right in for a fun time.Three words to describe me: Goofy, Sweet, Trusting03/10/25 19:18Here are some notes on Brutus from one of his fosters:Brutus is a silly, excitable boy who would make a great adventure buddy! He seeks out back rubs and only wants to be loved by his people. He is a snuggly boy once he settles down and gets familiar with his surroundings. My family took Brutus on a 4-day getaway. He panted anxiously during his first car ride. But by the end of the second day, he had alread

01/31/26 16:34 MHMeet your future fetch champion! This happy, outgoing guy is easy to leash and handle, knows his name, and comes when called—bonus points for good recall. He’s affectionate, attentive, and loves engaging with his people, especially if playtime is involved. Fetch is his absolute favorite, and he’s very ball-motivated (so much so that non-chew toys are a must—no tennis balls to chomp!).On walks and in the yard, he’s curious about other dogs and may pull to say hello, but he keeps his cool with no barking or lunging. He enjoys gentle petting, seeks attention, and is considered easy to manage overall. While he’s not currently in a playgroup, he’s thought to be a good candidate for a gentle, dainty play style. If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful companion who’s always ready to toss the ball, this might be your match!01/28/26 10:06Needs rescue due to being known to chew and ingest non-food items, including toys. At this time, there is no known history of gastrointestinal obstruction, and the dog is currently bright, alert, and eating normally with no signs of vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort.Ingestion of toys or other foreign objects can pose a risk for gastrointestinal upset or obstruction, which may require veterinary evaluation, diagnostic imaging, medical management, or surgical intervention if it occurs in the future.03/15/26What did we do on today’s adventure:For Monkey D Doggy’s very first Tails & Trails outing, he acted like an absolute seasoned pro. He was easy to harness and hopped right into his buddy’s car as if he’d been doing this his whole life. Once they arrived at Shady Oaks Park, Monkey D kicked things off with a brisk 1-mile warm-up lap—toy securely in his mouth—walking confidently past people and kids without a second thought. After warming up, his buddy decided to add a little more cardio to the day, so they headed onto the Coyote Creek Trail.Throughout their morning adventure, they took a few well-earned breaks. Monkey D loved stretching out in the sun, toy-of-toys besidehim, soaking in the lake view. He’d occasionally stroll over for snacks and some hang-out time, but his favorite move was definitely the confident sun-bathing. Despite plenty of dogs, cyclists, and activity along the trail, Monkey D stayed completely unfazed. He did spot a squirrel or two, but his focus stayed steady—carry the toy, enjoy the trail, and see as muchas possible. All i

02/21/26 13:21 MHMeet Smudge! Smudge is a friendly, high-energy boy with a big personality and an even bigger love for toys—especially balls! He greets people with full-body wiggles and is especially excited to see familiar faces. He’s very easy to handle, has done great for medical exams, and knows sit, stay, and shake. He’s very treat motivated in calmer settings and responds well to verbal cues during play.Smudge’s favorite thing in the world? A big ball in the yard. He’ll happily chase, push, and carry it around (sometimes all the way back to his kennel!). He doesn’t reliably retrieve yet and can get a little grabby with toys if overexcited, so continued positive reinforcement and structured play (like two-ball games) will help him succeed. No guarding has been observed. He’s easy to leash and exit the kennel but can pull strongly when excited—especially on the way to playtime. Once outside, he’s focused and engaged with his toys. He has shown friendly, appropriate interest in other dogs through the fence and has not displayed reactivity.Shelter life has been a bit frustrating for Smudge, and he can become vocal and wiggly in his kennel when people approach. He’ll thrive in a home that provides regular exercise, enrichment, and continued training to help channel his energy in positive ways.Smudge would do best with an active adopter or rescue ready for a fun, toy-loving companion who’s eager to learn and always ready to play.
