Story
PenGwen is officially ready for adoption and she is going to need a very special person to give her a forever home.
In many ways Gwen is just like any other puppy…she loves to play, she loves her toys. She’s ornery and a little needy and so incredibly sweet. She loves carrots and blueberries. She gets excited for breakfast and also dinner, and REALLY excited when she finds out a toy has a squeaker.
But Gwen also has cerebellar hypoplasia which means she has unique needs. Her condition will not get worse, but it also will never improve. This means her new family needs to understand her limitations and keep her safe while also building her confidence to live life in the body she was given. PenGwen’s life is a wobbly one, and that poses a certain amount of risk to tasks that would otherwise be harmless.
She will need a home that does not have stairs. There is simply no way for her to get up and down steps safely and a flight of stairs could be incredibly dangerous for her if she lost her footing.
Additionally, Gwen cannot be crated. Her little life started quite traumatically and a crate causes her severe anxiety. I have crate trained a LOT of dogs and puppies, and I believe crates are the right choice for many dogs. But not Gwen. When she is in a crate she is incredibly uncomfortable, anxious, and borderline panicked. She soils herself and this causes her to panic further. For her well-being, we do not crate her and will expect her future home to respect this as well.
Gwen does VERY well left home alone, gated in a room with our other dogs. With dog friends for company, her soft bed, and toys to play with…. she’s an angel. We have left her this way for up to 8 hours and she mostly just relaxes in her bed, never chewing on anything she shouldn’t. At night, she has a bed in our room that she takes herself to when she’s sleepy. When she needs to go potty, we go outside and she curls back up to go back to sleep.
PenGwen has met other dogs, cats, and humans and does well with each. She will need a dog who is patient and gentle in play. Gwen’s wobbles get worse when she’s excited so playtime can be….chaotic. ? She hangs with dogs much bigger than she is but needs a dog that will adjust their play style to suit her needs.
Gwen is not her best self in overstimulating situations and will not do well at breweries, dog parks, or other events with a lot of other dogs, foot traffic, noises, smells, etc.
Because of this, Gwen will not be attending any adoption events and we will be relying almost completely on word of mouth and the power of social media to find her the right home. We know it will take time to find her forever, and we’re committed to making sure it’s a PERFECT fit. Because she deserves it.

* Loves to play! She can play rough but her play style is pretty self limiting due to her wobbles
* No crate! Does well with a gated in a room with her dog friends
