Story
Meet Sienna:  Sienna is a sweet 2 year old English Setter/ Catahoula mix (best guess) and weighs around 40 pounds. Sienna and her 9 puppies were abandoned by their owner and taken in by a person who had no income to feed them. When we were notified of their situation 5 of the puppies had already passed away and the other 4, along with Sienna were starving and in bad shape. We rescued them and with lots of love and medical care they all survived. Sienna is very sweet and playful. Sienna loves people and gets along with other dogs her size. Sienna is doing great with her house training and walking on a leash. Sienna will need a fenced in yard since she loves running and playing in the yard. Sienna is now healthy, fully vetted and spayed. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl please go to our website at charliescrusaders.org  and fill out our adoption application  CURRENT LOCATION: Foster Care in Wilmington, DE ##1832817##

Story
Socialization/training: Ranger has had some basic obedience training as he understands sit down, stay, no, ect. Ranger has been known to be aggressive with certain dogs inside the house, but otherwise does well with other dogs. Ranger was tested with various types of dogs by a certified trainer, his issues with certain dogs are more situational. Ranger lived in an outdoor kennel, by himself, for over 10 years so he is still learning how to be a member of a family inside. Ranger likes things calm in the house. He is doing very well in his foster home with the other dogs in the home. He would prefer to be the only dog or share a home with another older dog that doesn’t get in his face. Crate trained: His past foster reported that he would settle down in the crate after 10 minutes or so. At his current foster home, he has made it clear he doesn’t want to be crated while his foster dad is away. He would constantly bark and keep moving around in the crate for hours and hours. Then he would be covered in drool and worn out. It was sad. He is/was fine with being crated if he knows his foster dad is home (ie overnight). After consulting with a trainer, Ranger stays in a large room by himself when his foster dad is gone. Most of the time Ranger will then lay down and rest until his foster dad comes home. He is watched randomly by a camera and if he is barking, a simple “Ranger sit down” and he will stop. Ranger’s life outside has made him more vocal than a lot of setters and that should be remembered in living circumstances where noise could be a problem. Leash trained:  Ranger is fine on the leash and loves to go for a walk. He is a very strong boy for his age and is very prey driven so he will pull and get distracted, but he is eager to please and learns fast. Activity Level: Ranger is very active for a dog of his age. He likes to run around the yard and even likes to play with certain dogs. He is always excited when his foster dad comes home and likes to run around and tell everyone how happy he is about it. Fence: Due to Ranger’s history of being kept in an outdoor kennel, he is a certified escape artist (with the bruises to prove it). A secure, physical privacy style fence of at least 6 feet will be required. He can climb chain link fences very easily. Behavior: Ranger is a sweet old man who would love nothing more than to lay in your recliner while you are home and nap. He is learning to enjoy being petted and loved on. He has been found to bond quickly and more favorably with men. He has no problem with women, but if there is a couple he will choose the male. He can be protective of his chosen people/person (resource guarding) when it comes to other dogs. His foster dad feeds him in his crate and has kept bone and toy time very supervised. Ranger likes things to be calm inside. He is still learning how to live inside with other dogs. He is doing really well but has more learning to do. Medical History: Ranger had lyme and was treated but he will test positive the rest of his life. Ranger has several old injuries from his escapes during his previous life. At some point it's believed he had a small stroke as he has one “lazy” eye. Ranger also has typical arthritis and old man pains and is on a daily pain reliever. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Foster Comments: Ranger is a very deserving dog. He is a sweet and happy old man. He loves a comfy chair, yummy meals, and to run around outside a little bit. Ranger is going on 11 years old, but he still has so much life left and love to give. He needs just the right retirement home that will be patient with him and help him live out his life happy and loved just as he deserves. Foster Location: Chesterton, IN Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##1763593##

Story
Socialization/training: Mavroula is not treat motivated, at least not so far, making it more challenging to train her. She has learned her name, and most often comes when called. We are working on “come” and “sit”. A most endearing behavior is when she sees leashes come out, she sits perfectly still for you to put her leash and harness on her. We also practice “wait” when opening the gate to go on a walk. She has had no accidents since I have had her. She likes other dogs and most people. It took Mavroula some time to be friendly and relaxed with my dogs. She now lies sleeping near both my dogs and likes to be close to them. Crate trained: She is crate trained, but she doesn’t usually go into the crate. She also has a separate space in my house where she eats and goes when I leave the house. Leash trained: She walks well on a leash with or without other dogs. She doesn’t have a lot of practice walking on a leash, but she does not pull. She also runs well on a leash and is an almost perfect running companion. However, due to her inexperience she sometimes gets under your feet. Activity Level: Mavroula needs a few walks a day to be happy, but she does not need to run extensively as do many English Setters. Fence: A fenced yard is required for Marvoula. She needs at least a small backyard to run around in, and this yard needs to have a solid fence, at least 5 feet high. Behavior:  Mavroula came to me as a very anxious and fearful dog. She walked around with her tail tightly tucked between her rear legs. As she has become more confident and comfortable, her tail now comes out. She now walks around the house happily. Mavroula is a surprisingly easy dog. She is quiet, very gentle, and independent. She sometimes buries her sweet sensitive face shyly into me. We walk with other dogs and she likes being part of the group. She looks to people and other dogs she is familiar with for comfort and to gain confidence. Medical History: My vet says she is healthy. She is microchipped, spayed, fully vaccinated and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leishmaniasis test will be due in December 2024.  Mavroula originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250 or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster Comments: Marvoula gets nervous and afraid when there is too much chaos and noise. She is nervous around young children, so kids in the home should be at least 12 years old or older. I feel very strongly that she needs a quiet home with at least one other dog that she can continue to learn from. I have fallen in love with Mavroula and will be very sad to let her go. Foster Location: Tucson, AZ Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Story
Socialization/training: Edith does not know any true commands, however she’s very quick to pick up on routines which is helpful with her being deaf. When meeting new people, including men and children, she is very sweet and does a tap dance. Edith will need to be the only pet in the home. She gets along with my senior lab most of the time but decides she doesn’t like her from time to time. I’ve never seen her around cats, but suspect her prey drive would kick in. She’s very trustworthy in the home, but will jump on furniture/windowsills with her front paws.    Crate trained: I’ve never had to put Edith in a crate. She can be trusted alone in the home for up to 9 hours. Leash trained: Edith enjoys short, 10 minute walks before she gets tired and lays down. While walking she likes to take her time and enjoy the smells. Activity Level: Edith has bursts of energy that last for a few minutes then she returns to sleeping. When outside, she’ll sniff around for a few minutes and ask to come back inside. She is fairly low energy and likes to find a quiet place to sleep.    Fence: I have a 6 foot fence, but a 4 foot fence would be fine. She is unable to jump fences and I haven’t seen her dig in the yard. If there is a hole big enough for her to escape, she will.    Behavior: Edith is a sweet, affectionate and loving little lady. She loves to be petted but isn’t much of a cuddler. She will lay for a few pets and will then find her own space. She’ll follow me around the house if she notices me moving. She likes to look out the window and will occasionally bark. She barks maybe once or twice a week. Medical History: Edith is completely deaf, but it doesn’t impact her day-to-day. She has arthritis in her hind hips and neck and because of the arthritis in her neck, she can’t hold her head up. She had a tumor removed from her right front paw in November 2023. The doctor was able to remove 95% of the tumor and expect it to grow back very slowly. It is not the type of cancer to spread. She takes medications easily with food with a monthly cost of approximately $75.      Foster Comments: Edith came to me in June 2023. Since she’s been with me, she’s really come out of her shell and it’s amazing what a little love has done for her personality. She is a sweet, mellow girl and will need a home with no other dogs. Foster Location: Liverpool, NY (Syracuse area) Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Socialization/training: Chryssa is very sweet and loving. She loves all adults and children and is quick to lean into anyone willing to pet her. She plays well with dogs her size and smaller at the dog park. Chryssa rides well in the car as well as the golf cart where she is tethered in, of course. Chryssa is very food motivated, so training comes pretty easy for her.  She has been working on Sit, Stay and Off. She was a countertop surfer when she first arrived, but that has gotten better in our presence. Crate trained: Chryssa is great in her crate. At night she goes right into her crate where she sleeps through the night with the door open. If we leave during the day for a few hours she will go into her crate with a little help and lie down and await our return. Leash trained: Chryssa walks well with a harness with the typical prey drive when birds, rabbits or squirrels are in sight. Activity Level: Chryssa enjoys a walk or hike in the morning as well as one in the evening or running off leash in the dog park with her friends. She loves to play with her toys inside or in the yard, but requires super tough toys as she is quite a chewer. Fence: We have a 5' rod iron and block wall combo that she has never challenged. A fenced yard would be best for her so she can play and burn off energy during the day when not on walks or at the dog park. She is still quite young.  Behavior: Chryssa is affectionate, playful and a happy dog. She would love to sit in your lap or cuddle next to you on the couch. She is calm in the house and does not bark. She will check on you if you leave the room but then lays back down. She is a bit independent and a bit velcro, so a nice combo. Medical History: Chryssa is very healthy. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. Her next Leishmaniasis test is due November of 2024.      Chryssa originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. Foster Comments: Chryssa is a really wonderful dog. She is smart, sensitive and loving. She would be okay as an only dog but also would love the company of a fur sibling. Her ideal family would have a fenced yard for her to play in and also an active family to take her on lots of walks and hikes and incorporate her into their everyday lives and she loves to be with her humans. Foster Location: Florence, Arizona Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Pending Adoption - Ginger

English Setter

Female, 12 yrs 1 mo
Havertown, PA
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with cats, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Socialization/training: Ginger loves everyone she meets, including adults and kids. Ginger does not like any of our big dogs but loves our senior small dogs who probably remind her of all her past puppies. She does like small dogs as long as they just ignore her. Ginger has been exposed to our outside cat & our foster mama cat with kittens who are inside a cat playpen in our attached breezeway, but has shown no interest. We are not sure how she would react to cats loose in a house though. Ginger is housebroken, however we also have a doggie door so she can go outside to potty whenever she wants to when not crated or in a round pen.  Crate trained: Yes, she is crate trained. She spent most of her life prior to rescue in an outdoor kennel, being used as a breeding dog. Leash trained:  Ginger walks great on a leash and will sit/walk on command, unless she sees someone or something which gets her all excited then will pull.  Activity Level: Ginger is an older dog, so she does need naps occasionally. Ginger can be either leash walked to potty or just let loose in a fenced yard. She will either bark or pace when she needs to potty to let you know she needs to go. She can be energetic but sometimes likes to be lazy too. Fence: Ginger does fine in the fenced yard here, but would be okay with leash walks only, so a fence is not required for her.  Behavior: Ginger loves to be with her people no matter whether they are inside or outside. She is just as happy laying by your feet as she is outside playing with you. Ginger is very affectionate and loves all the attention that she can get. Medical History: She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, on monthly heartworm prevention. Ginger had a dental, spay, and mammary tumor removal in February.  Her tumors were benign. Foster Comments: Ginger came to us as a backyard kennel breeding dog, so she never knew what it was like to live inside a house but she sure does now! She will need time to adjust to a new home and schedule. Ginger is such a sweet, loving dog, who deserves a forever loving retirement home where she can get lots of attention. You won't regret adopting her! We just have too many of our own dogs here.  Foster location: Corydon, IN Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home.
