Story
Meet Sienna:  Sienna is a sweet 2 year old English Setter/ Catahoula mix (best guess) and weighs around 40 pounds. Sienna and her 9 puppies were abandoned by their owner and taken in by a person who had no income to feed them. When we were notified of their situation 5 of the puppies had already passed away and the other 4, along with Sienna were starving and in bad shape. We rescued them and with lots of love and medical care they all survived. Sienna is very sweet and playful. Sienna loves people and gets along with other dogs her size. Sienna is doing great with her house training and walking on a leash. Sienna will need a fenced in yard since she loves running and playing in the yard. Sienna is now healthy, fully vetted and spayed. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl please go to our website at charliescrusaders.org  and fill out our adoption application  CURRENT LOCATION: Foster Care in Wilmington, DE ##1832817##

Story
My name is Uncle Joe and I am in search of a special family or person or couple that loves my breed line which is, English Setter.  I am 4 1/2 years old and my owner released me and my look alike brother to a vet who kindly allowed us to stay at her clinic for a while and to avoid the terrible shelter in our town.  We were not neutered nor updated on shots and heartworm.  We are now!   I am 55 pounds and I do NOT have to be adopted with my brother, Mr. Moe.  We are both independent boys that love people and are told that are very handsome and rare to find in the rescue world.  I have a fair amount of energy and it would benefit me to be adopted by someone with lots of desire and ability to be outside to exercise with me.  I would love a fenced yard too.  I think kids would be fun to hang out with and I am good with other dogs if introduced slowly and they don’t jump around in my face.  I am a sweet and intelligent dog that is looking for someone to really give me some one on one time and a chance to be taught some great manners.  I can learn quickly and I certainly will return to you every ounce of love and devotion that I have in my heart and soul.  I am ready NOW…. please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and tell them where you live and that you are interested in making me a part of your life! PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 22, 2024, 1:56 pm

Story
Socialization/training: Ranger has had some basic obedience training as he understands sit down, stay, no, ect. Ranger has been known to be aggressive with certain dogs inside the house, but otherwise does well with other dogs. Ranger was tested with various types of dogs by a certified trainer, his issues with certain dogs are more situational. Ranger lived in an outdoor kennel, by himself, for over 10 years so he is still learning how to be a member of a family inside. Ranger likes things calm in the house. He is doing very well in his foster home with the other dogs in the home. He would prefer to be the only dog or share a home with another older dog that doesn’t get in his face. Crate trained: His past foster reported that he would settle down in the crate after 10 minutes or so. At his current foster home, he has made it clear he doesn’t want to be crated while his foster dad is away. He would constantly bark and keep moving around in the crate for hours and hours. Then he would be covered in drool and worn out. It was sad. He is/was fine with being crated if he knows his foster dad is home (ie overnight). After consulting with a trainer, Ranger stays in a large room by himself when his foster dad is gone. Most of the time Ranger will then lay down and rest until his foster dad comes home. He is watched randomly by a camera and if he is barking, a simple “Ranger sit down” and he will stop. Ranger’s life outside has made him more vocal than a lot of setters and that should be remembered in living circumstances where noise could be a problem. Leash trained:  Ranger is fine on the leash and loves to go for a walk. He is a very strong boy for his age and is very prey driven so he will pull and get distracted, but he is eager to please and learns fast. Activity Level: Ranger is very active for a dog of his age. He likes to run around the yard and even likes to play with certain dogs. He is always excited when his foster dad comes home and likes to run around and tell everyone how happy he is about it. Fence: Due to Ranger’s history of being kept in an outdoor kennel, he is a certified escape artist (with the bruises to prove it). A secure, physical privacy style fence of at least 6 feet will be required. He can climb chain link fences very easily. Behavior: Ranger is a sweet old man who would love nothing more than to lay in your recliner while you are home and nap. He is learning to enjoy being petted and loved on. He has been found to bond quickly and more favorably with men. He has no problem with women, but if there is a couple he will choose the male. He can be protective of his chosen people/person (resource guarding) when it comes to other dogs. His foster dad feeds him in his crate and has kept bone and toy time very supervised. Ranger likes things to be calm inside. He is still learning how to live inside with other dogs. He is doing really well but has more learning to do. Medical History: Ranger had lyme and was treated but he will test positive the rest of his life. Ranger has several old injuries from his escapes during his previous life. At some point it's believed he had a small stroke as he has one “lazy” eye. Ranger also has typical arthritis and old man pains and is on a daily pain reliever. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Foster Comments: Ranger is a very deserving dog. He is a sweet and happy old man. He loves a comfy chair, yummy meals, and to run around outside a little bit. Ranger is going on 11 years old, but he still has so much life left and love to give. He needs just the right retirement home that will be patient with him and help him live out his life happy and loved just as he deserves. Foster Location: Chesterton, IN Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##1763593##

Story
Socialization/training: Mavroula is not treat motivated, at least not so far, making it more challenging to train her. She has learned her name, and most often comes when called. We are working on “come” and “sit”. A most endearing behavior is when she sees leashes come out, she sits perfectly still for you to put her leash and harness on her. We also practice “wait” when opening the gate to go on a walk. She has had no accidents since I have had her. She likes other dogs and most people. It took Mavroula some time to be friendly and relaxed with my dogs. She now lies sleeping near both my dogs and likes to be close to them. Crate trained: She is crate trained, but she doesn’t usually go into the crate. She also has a separate space in my house where she eats and goes when I leave the house. Leash trained: She walks well on a leash with or without other dogs. She doesn’t have a lot of practice walking on a leash, but she does not pull. She also runs well on a leash and is an almost perfect running companion. However, due to her inexperience she sometimes gets under your feet. Activity Level: Mavroula needs a few walks a day to be happy, but she does not need to run extensively as do many English Setters. Fence: A fenced yard is required for Marvoula. She needs at least a small backyard to run around in, and this yard needs to have a solid fence, at least 5 feet high. Behavior:  Mavroula came to me as a very anxious and fearful dog. She walked around with her tail tightly tucked between her rear legs. As she has become more confident and comfortable, her tail now comes out. She now walks around the house happily. Mavroula is a surprisingly easy dog. She is quiet, very gentle, and independent. She sometimes buries her sweet sensitive face shyly into me. We walk with other dogs and she likes being part of the group. She looks to people and other dogs she is familiar with for comfort and to gain confidence. Medical History: My vet says she is healthy. She is microchipped, spayed, fully vaccinated and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leishmaniasis test will be due in December 2024.  Mavroula originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250 or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster Comments: Marvoula gets nervous and afraid when there is too much chaos and noise. She is nervous around young children, so kids in the home should be at least 12 years old or older. I feel very strongly that she needs a quiet home with at least one other dog that she can continue to learn from. I have fallen in love with Mavroula and will be very sad to let her go. Foster Location: Tucson, AZ Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Story
Socialization/training: Edith does not know any true commands, however she’s very quick to pick up on routines which is helpful with her being deaf. When meeting new people, including men and children, she is very sweet and does a tap dance. Edith will need to be the only pet in the home. She gets along with my senior lab most of the time but decides she doesn’t like her from time to time. I’ve never seen her around cats, but suspect her prey drive would kick in. She’s very trustworthy in the home, but will jump on furniture/windowsills with her front paws.    Crate trained: I’ve never had to put Edith in a crate. She can be trusted alone in the home for up to 9 hours. Leash trained: Edith enjoys short, 10 minute walks before she gets tired and lays down. While walking she likes to take her time and enjoy the smells. Activity Level: Edith has bursts of energy that last for a few minutes then she returns to sleeping. When outside, she’ll sniff around for a few minutes and ask to come back inside. She is fairly low energy and likes to find a quiet place to sleep.    Fence: I have a 6 foot fence, but a 4 foot fence would be fine. She is unable to jump fences and I haven’t seen her dig in the yard. If there is a hole big enough for her to escape, she will.    Behavior: Edith is a sweet, affectionate and loving little lady. She loves to be petted but isn’t much of a cuddler. She will lay for a few pets and will then find her own space. She’ll follow me around the house if she notices me moving. She likes to look out the window and will occasionally bark. She barks maybe once or twice a week. Medical History: Edith is completely deaf, but it doesn’t impact her day-to-day. She has arthritis in her hind hips and neck and because of the arthritis in her neck, she can’t hold her head up. She had a tumor removed from her right front paw in November 2023. The doctor was able to remove 95% of the tumor and expect it to grow back very slowly. It is not the type of cancer to spread. She takes medications easily with food with a monthly cost of approximately $75.      Foster Comments: Edith came to me in June 2023. Since she’s been with me, she’s really come out of her shell and it’s amazing what a little love has done for her personality. She is a sweet, mellow girl and will need a home with no other dogs. Foster Location: Liverpool, NY (Syracuse area) Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home.
