Please contact Courtney Nobles (courtneyn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Sweetie ISO happily ever after! BUDDY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:  Buddy     Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd/terrier mix   Best Guess for Age:  5 years as of June 2023     SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  43 lbs.   Special Adoption Considerations: Buddy loves his people more than anything and would like to be the only pet in the home. He would do best in a home without children under the age of 15.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Check out this video of Buddy: https://youtu.be/ps0D1mmEsbM.   Buddy is Looking For: A family who will appreciate his joyful enthusiasm and who is ready for lots of walks!  Buddy is very quiet, well-behaved, and loving in the home with his humans. He has a great wiggle when he's excited to see his people! He has great manners in the home and has adjusted well to his routine with his fosters! Buddy gets very excited to meet new people and is working on his manners. He is quickly mastering commands like 'sit' and 'stay' and continuing to work on his training. Buddy needs someone that is ready to take him on long walks around the neighborhood every day -- he loves to walk! And Buddy needs someone who is okay letting Buddy be the apple of their eye and who will not have Buddy around other dogs. He walks great on the leash as long as other dogs don't get too close and would do best not living in a very dense living situation like apartments or condo buildings.  What My Foster Says About Me: 'Buddy exudes joy with his smile, curious ears and gleefully wagging tail. Buddy LOVES going for walks (he gets lots of walks!) and would be a great adventure companion! When not enjoying a walk, he finds a cozy spot to hang out and rest -- whether in the home or on the grass outside. He has been doing well with training and has been learning the ropes pretty quickly. He is incredibly respectful of things and people in the house (never begs at the table, doesn't touch 'our' things, is quiet, sleeps late, is great with visitors,...). Simply put, easy and great in the house. Buddy will be an active and adoring addition to a forever home! He is a tremendous pup who we will miss when he finds his forever home, but he is going a wonderful pup for his person or new family.' Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:   The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. See this cutie loving her foster:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxurMOilB5kAnd see those other cute videos of sweet Noel! https://youtube.com/shorts/7lhj0hHNgYw https://youtube.com/shorts/JKBmbbJ62gs https://youtu.be/8vb8qP7VQqU   https://youtube.com/shorts/-ZBi6Qg4lHY    Gets Along With:  Noel does well with other dogs and must go to a home with a confident and welcoming resident dog.  No cats please!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster   Special adoption considerations:  Noel is shy would do best in a home with another dog!  She isn't recommended for homes with kids under 12 because of her shyness.   Noel's Story:  Noel is looking for a very special home that will share all the love she has in her heart.  Her journey has been long, will you be the one to complete this love story?  When she first came to Lucky Dog in December 2020, she was heavily pregnant. She was so scared of humans that it was pretty clear someone had mistreated her terribly.  In her maternity foster, she had her puppies, and was happy to see they all went off to their forever homes.  Noel then went to a foster home with several other dogs. Now that she no longer had puppies to tend to, her foster could start helping her build her trust with humans. Over time, she slowly developed a familiarity with her human foster; they bonded during long walks. It took months, but Noel started asking for pets and napping on the couch with her foster. More quickly, she bonded with the other dogs in her foster home. She’d wake up in the morning, eager to leap out of her crate and start playing with her doggie siblings. She became accustomed to her foster home - content even - and time passed.    This foster family was unable to continue being her foster, so Noel moved to a new foster in May of 2023. Her new fosters instantly fell in love with her, but they realized Noel now had to start developing trust all over again.  She was in a new home. New people. She didn’t know if she could trust them. She tried her best to make herself invisible, to avoid anything that could result in negative experiences. Her fosters gave her space - and gave her so many reasons to trust them. She finally came out of her crate, but then she settled onto a dog bed, very still. She didn’t dare ask for anything. She didn’t ask to go potty - she held it for more than a day, until her foster convinced her to go outside. She didn’t ask for food. She showed impeccable house manners - she didn’t touch anything. She was simply trying her best to not be seen.    But - she has a wonderful doggie foster brother. He showed her that the people in the home were safe.   She has been watching him and from him, learning that there is love and safety in that home. She has been watching him get snuggles from the humans - and her fosters saw her watch that with such yearning, such uncertainty. They celebrated the day she came to them and asked to be petted - after just three weeks in the home, instead of the months she needed in the previous home! She is still uncertain but the trust builds by the day.    Noel once again is making friends with her fosters during long walks. Her fosters celebrate every walk she goes on where she actually relaxes and sniffs. She’s still uncertain of other dogs and people, but is quickly learning to follow her fosters’ lead and continue walking around the neighborhood, joyfully sniffing all the smells.    One very special thing about Noel - one thing that always reaches that spark in her - is her complete love for puppies. In her current foster home, her fosters saw Noel progressively build confidence with her adult dog foster brother and start to share moments of play. The moment a foster puppy arrived, though, Noel instantly transformed into a happy-go-lucky, joyful, loving pup who constantly played with the puppy and happily accepted all its floppy, awkward affections.    Noel has come such a long way in trusting humans, and is eager to have her own now. She is looking for a forever home that’s ready to put her heart at ease.  She needs an angel who understands that a traumatized dog needs time to build trust. Who understands that no matter how much love grows in the previous (foster) home, it will take time to grow again in the forever home. Who understands that once the bond has been built, once trust has been gained, they will be the lucky recipients of all the love Noel has to offer. Her current fosters say she is so sweet and they see the lovely dog she will be with the right patient, loving family.   This dog who had such a traumatic start deserves her soft landing, her happy ending. If you can help give her the loving home she dreams about, either by reaching out to the adoption coordinator listed here to discuss potential adoption or by passing Noel’s story along to others—thank you!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:  The adoption fee for Noel is $460,  which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at  bit.ly/adoptaluckydog.   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Please contact Emily Jadgmann (emilyj@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Thank god I'm a country boy!MIKEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!   Name: Mikey    Best Guess for Breed: Lab and retriever mix   Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of April 2024      SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight: 64 lbs.   Gets Along With:  Mikey lives with other dogs of all sizes and does very well. He would do best in a home with no cats or young kids as he likes to jump to say hello and lives life to smother you with affection -- big smiles and tongue out.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Follow Mikey on Instagram at instagram.com/mikeythegoober.   Your Life with Mikey: You get home. His tail goes thump thump thump as he eagerly awaits his favorite thing in the world: You. You open his crate. He jumps out and shows you how happy he is to see you.  You change into your gym shoes and open the door to your fenced backyard. He goes out, sniffs around and does his business, then has a little romp. He sees you walk up with a basketball and he jumps around ecstatically - it’s time to play basketball! He loves basketball! You can see in those videos how much he loves it.  After a game where you think he probably could beat you if he had opposable thumbs, you two go back in. He lumbers over to his crate to chill while you whip up dinner for everyone.  After dinner is the best part. Mikey looks at you with adoring eyes as he galumphs up, turns around, and plops down on your lap. It doesn’t matter that he’s 64 pounds. In his vision of himself, he is a svelte boy no bigger than a Pomeranian, and a human lap is his destiny.  You look down at him - well, maybe up at him when he’s on your lap. And you go “Aw I love you, you big lug.” See, Mikey is one of those awesome dogs with a simple outlook on life. He loves his spot (his crate or lying on a rug at your feet). He loves running around in a fenced yard. And he loves beyond all belief - he completely adores - his humans.  Because he loves people so much and has no clue how big he is, he needs to go to a home where the humans are of an appropriate size and sturdiness to handle him happily plonking down on them. Small children and delicate individuals are not the ideal fit for an onslaught of Mikey-love. He currently lives in a foster home where there are many dogs, including a 12-pound dachshund, so it’s hard to blame him for looking at that one daintily perching on human laps and thinking “me too!” Being a simple dog, he’s also one of those with unshakable dog logic. In his case, Mikey finds wheels scary. So he prefers to run around a nice fenced backyard rather than encounter bicycles, skateboards, and other wheeled items on walks. He rides in a car just fine - it’s just those other wheels. You know. Dog logic.  Mikey is such a sweetie, such an incredibly loyal companion to his humans. Since he thrives running around a big fenced backyard, his family wouldn’t be walking him. He is also terrific in his crate and relishes being in there, so managing him while he’s in the house isn’t complicated. Giving him all the pets and rubs and scratches he demands, that’s definitely work. But the payoff is wonderful. Having a big, super affectionate, simple minded (uncomplicated) dog is an amazing experience - that true unconditional love.   What do you say? Can Mikey give all he has to offer to you? Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:   The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog. Please contact Sarah Maraschky (sarahm@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! BISON NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Bison        Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd and terrier mix   Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of January 2024      SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  50 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven’t seen Bison with kids, but he can be tested. We have tested him with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that he could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!   Currently Living at:  DC foster!   Check out this video of Bison: https://youtu.be/lyWTPRQG4gI    Special adoption considerations: Bison is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.   About Bison:   Bison is ready to be part of your adventure!  Bison is always charging ahead looking for the latest exciting thing whether it’s human or canine.  He enjoys walks, especially in cooler weather when he can go longer, and generally walks well with a loose leash. He loves rough and tumble play with doggy playmates, and he’s very excited to make new friends when he’s out and about.  Sometimes he’s a little too excited but he’s responsive to cues, eager to please, and motivated by treats!  He can entertain himself playing with his toys, tossing them in the air just to make sure they keep moving! At home, Bison is all about adoring his humans. He follows people around the house to make sure he doesn’t miss anything. He has a favorite spot where he can sit on a big chair, chin propped up, watching the kitchen when that is where the action is. He got up on the couch and sat with his fosters’ grandchildren, ages 7 and 11, when they visited, and he loves snuggles!  He’s a good boy–he generally knows which items are his and which aren’t, and when he needs to go, he will go to the foster’s patio door or look at them and bark!   Bison has so many smiles, so many adoring gazes and tail wags, so much energy and zest for life, so much love and loyal companionship to give his forever family.  He’s a goofy and amiable companion, enjoying car rides, snuggling on the couch, and generally being a part of whatever you’re doing.  Could Bison be your trusty life companion?    Foster Update 1/24:    Bison is a lot calmer at home. He loves to play and has been enjoying the snow. Loves balls and tough chew toys. We’ve been working on helping him to relax more around his triggers. Meeting and seeing other dogs outside and on walks is still a work in progress for him. He responds well with positive reinforcement and is very food motivated. His recall is getting better under low distraction. He also now can sit and wait to be released to eat his food. He loves to snuggle and likes to sleep on the bed under the covers!      Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog.   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. What My Foster Says About Me:  Dieter is such a great pup. He loves belly rubs and cuddling - having him melt into you just makes the day great.  He's really good about being chill in the home and expending his youthful energy outside - he loves his walks, and likes his games of catch. He's super food motivated and that helps with training as well. Inside, he's also good in the crate and doesn't have accidents in the house.  He's overall a fun guy to have around, and because he's chill in the home - a great WFH companion as well.  Special Adoption Considerations: Dieter loves his people more than anything and would like to be the only pet in the home. Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Playful Pup with Personality as Unique as They Come! POPTART NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name: Poptart        Best Guess for Breed: Terrier and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:  10 months as of November 2023      SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:   46 lbs as of January 2024   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! He has lived with cats and has done well but we always recommend slow introductions. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack! He hasn't been seen with kids but can be tested.    Currently Living at:   DC area foster home.   About Poptart:   Meet Poptart, a energetic bundle of joy with a personality as unique as they come! Despite his impressive size, Poptart is convinced he’s a lap dog at heart.   Poptart is a connoisseur of plushy and cotton toys, although that passion can transform a squeaky wonderland into fluffy confetti in no time at all! However, his absolute favorite toy is a buffalo hoof - You'll never find him without it; it's their sidekick for car rides, potty breaks, and leisurely strolls. His adorable antics and attachment to the buffalo hoof are reminiscent of a little boy with his cherished teddy bear. If you're searching for a buddy to share your cozy evenings with, Poptart is your perfect match. He’ll snuggle up beside you, tail wagging in anticipation of the next National Geographic adventure or the magical journey through the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Those are his favorites and he truly will watch TV right along with you!   But Poptart is not just a spectator, he’s a clever communicator. He has a subtle yet effective way of letting you know his desires. Whether it's sitting beside an item he fancies or planting themselves right in your face, this clever pup has communication down to an art.  Poptart is seeking a family that appreciates the quirkiness of life and can match his enthusiasm for playtime. If you're ready to share your heart and home with a lovable, slightly mischievous giant, Poptart might just be the perfect fit!  What My Foster Says About Me:  Poptart is the biggest snuggle bug and the sweetest companion. Playtime is his favorite time! He loves toys and he has been great with my 3 resident dogs, though he tends to play rough, he knows when to back off. He has a puppy's curiosity and was interested in my cats at first but now he barely notices them. Everything he does I find amusing because he is discovering new things everyday. When he got his first bath, he was so confused by the shower curtain and you could see the gears turning in his head. When he accidentally hurts me or the other dogs I will scream “OW!” and will say “Kissies” right after so he knows what he did and he will come over to me and give me a kiss or will give my other dogs a kiss. Poptart hasn't had any potty accidents in the house and will pace to let you know he has to go outside. He is perfect in his crate and in a car. He's enthusiastic about mealtime and currently needs to eat with a slow feeder. He is so so smart, he has learned our routine when I go to work and does not give me any trouble with it. He will walk straight into his kennel and take a nap until we are ready to go. He is an energetic young pup and would do best with an active family or in doggy daycare. Poptart is a loving, playful pup that deserves the world after what he has been through!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
