Additional adoption info

The animals that are up for adoption may be viewed
online by going to www.almosthomeanimalrescue.petfinder.com. If you would like
more information on any of our animals please contact
us by calling 708-946-9474 or by sending an e-mail to
animallover7@hughes.net. You will then fill out an
application. This tells us a little about your family and the
environment you would provide for your new pet. After
your application is received one of our volunteers will
visit your home to discuss the adoption process and
your preferences and expectations for your next family
member. Upon approval you will be able to take your
new family member home.

About Almost Home Animal Rescue

Almost Home Animal Rescue is a 501 (c) 3 no-kill, all
volunteer, not-for-profit rescue that operates out of
foster homes. We offer adoption opportunities for
cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies of all ages. We were
founded in January 2006 by a family who wanted to
help animals in need. AHAR takes in animals from
different sources including those relinquished by
owners/guardians and good samaritans. However,
our primary source for animals are those at risk of
being euthanized in animal control agencies, shelters
both local and from other states, and veterinary
offices.

We provide each animal entering our adoption
program a full veterinary exam, vaccines,
neutering/spaying, testing for disease and parasites,
and micro chipping. In many cases, more intensive
health care is provided based on the animals'
individual needs, circumstances, or illnesses. We
provide this quality of care because many of the
animals we take in have either never had veterinary
care or come to us in poor condition. Our adoption
fees cover only a portion of our veterinary bills so we
are always in serious need of donations from the
public, our adopters, and volunteers. Without these
donations, we do not have a way to recover
veterinary costs since we are not county, state, or
federally supported

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
