Areas Red Hook Dog Rescue (NNE) serves

Red Hook Dog Rescue (Northern New England) adopts to NH, VT, ME and MA. We are very "hands on" and like to stay in touch with adopters and often provide free training sessions to give adoptions the best chance of success! With that in mind, we like our adopters to be within a 2 hour drive of southeastern NH (where our volunteer co-ordinator is based) so we can be there for you quickly if you need us!

Additional adoption info

We require an adoption application and home visit, as well as vet reference checks. Our adoption fee is $250 and there is an adoption contract.

We sometimes require novice dog owners to attend one-on-one training/obedience classes with a local trainer (at no cost to the adopter).

All our animals for adoption are spayed/neutered, healthy, and up to date on shots. All have at least basic obedience training (housetrained, crate trained, know "sit" and "down").

About Red Hook Dog Rescue (NNE)

Red Hook Dog Rescue is a labour of love, rescuing literally one "forgotten" dog at a time from long-term boarding situations and finding them great homes in Northern New England.

People so often focus on animals on "death row" at kill shelters, they forget what happens to those dogs once they are "rescued". Many times, they end up just being stuck in boarding, in some cases for years at a time. A kennel is not a home.

We are a tiny, tiny rescue. We do not accept owner surrenders, though if you are having trouble keeping your pet we are always happy to talk to you and help you look for solutions to either keep your pet, or find a responsible place for the pet to go.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
