Additional adoption info

The first step is to fill out an adoption application for the animal you want. After the application has been recieved and processed (references checked) we will call and set up a phone interview after which an appointment will be made for you to meet the pet you chose, and in the case of dogs, bring your other dogs to meet them to be sure they will get along. Then a home visit may be done and finally the comittee will meet and a decsion will be made and you will be notified if you were approved or not.

If approved you will be required to sign a contract stating that for the life of the pet if for any reason you cannot keep it you will return it to us.

Adoption fees are $75 dollars and include, spay/meuter,microchip, and up to date shots at the time of adoption.

About Coastal Animal Rescue

Construction of the first building was completed in November 2007 and housed about 60 cats and 4 dogs. Since its founding 5 years ago, the organization has saved over 1,500 cats and 100 dogs (not counting the animals the organization has helped to be spayed and neutered). Currently the shelter has about 581 cats and 25 dogs, as some are fostered in homes by responsible pet parents.

At the all-volunteer shelter no one has ever received a salary not even the director. Therefore, 100% of all monies raised through fundraisers and by needed donations are spent only to house, feed, spay/neuter and provide medical care to the animals.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
