Areas PMAR (Perfect Match Animal Rescue - TN Chapter serves

We rescue abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in Memphis, TN and the surrounding area, and provide them with veterinary care and much needed TLC. When they’re ready, we adopt them into safe and loving homes.

We work with shelters in Tennessee and Mississipi, many of whom have over 85% euthanasia rates. Nearly nine out of every ten animals that enter these shelters never leave. We’re working to change that.

We transport most of our dogs to New England and the surrounding states with the help of Hearts, LLC, Got Orphans Transport and Alpha Dog Transport, both licensed and registered animal transportation companies.

We do not have a facility and rely solely on foster homes. If you would like to foster or adopt and save a life - please contact us for more information!

PMAR (Perfect Match Animal Rescue - TN Chapter's adoption process

Additional adoption info

To begin the adoption process, you must agree to our adoption policies and complete an adoption application form. The adoption application outlines key adoption policies for your review and it provides helpful information about you and your household for our volunteers to review and discuss prior to finalizing your selection. We will also review with you any medical or behavioral information relevant to that animal, explain policies and services available to adopters, and collect adoption fees.

About PMAR (Perfect Match Animal Rescue - TN Chapter

Perfect Match was originally Purrfect Match, and founded several years ago by local animal rescuer, Jill Thorsen. In 2013, Purrfect Match began doing business as Perfect Match Animal Rescue when Lesley Takao joined and began their New England Dog Adoption Program. Since then, we have worked closely with Memphis Animal Services to rescue as many dogs as possible, while continuing to assist stray dogs in the community and individuals with spay/neuter needs for their pets. We have greatly expanded our foster program and now have a core network of wonderful foster families both here in Memphis, and in the northern states. Perfect Match is run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to raising funds, fostering and caring for the animals until homes are found for these amazing pets.

Just some of what we do:-

Rescuing stray animals from animal shelters who have not been adopted and are scheduled to be euthanized. We try to take the animals who have been in the shelters the longest and will die unless rescued.

Providing medical care to neglected, abused and injured animals.

Rehabilitating hard-to-adopt animals and finding them loving homes.

Promoting the importance of spaying and neutering pets in order to drastically reduce the number of unwanted animals on the street.

Educating children and adults alike on responsible pet guardianship.

Perfect Match relies heavily on our foster program which introduces animals into a family environment and gives them the love they crave. All of our cats are in foster homes and our dogs are either in foster homes or doggie daycares.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Memphis, TN.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
