Story
Ohana is an Akita puppy, born in November 2024.  She is a sweetie and good with other dogs, cats and kids!  Ohana must have a home with a fenced yard.  She is very well behaved and anxious to meet you!  We'll share more info as we learn more about her. Here are some general facts about Akitas: Very intelligent and loyal, but also have an independent, headstrong nature. As large and very powerful dogs, it is vital that they are trained consistently, beginning as a puppy. They are instinctive guardians, so it's especially important that Akitas have early and extensive socialization when young. An adult female Akita will weigh between 70 and 100 pounds and stand 24 to 26 inches tall. The suggested adoption donation for Ohana is $650, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses.  [Muddy Paws can also suggest a vet with a reduced cost for alters.]  All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.  Thank you in advance for your compliance. ##2394363##

Story
Ryder is a sweet 2 ½-year-old pup that I got from a friend. He’s been a wonderful companion, full of life and love. I’m now looking for a new home where he’ll be just as cherished. Ryder is playful, loyal, smart, and affectionate. He loves running around, cuddling, going on walks, or playing with toys, and he’s always happiest when he’s around people who care for him. Ryder would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of attention, playtime, and love

Story
Dwight is one of a litter of 7 puppies born March 13th, 2025, to mama Dolly. He currently weighs a little over 13 pounds and should be a large sized adult. Dwight loves being held and snuggled. He plays hard and then crashes for a nap. The mom to this litter is Dolly, a 3 year old, 46 pound German Shorthair Pointer mix. We don’t know who the dad to this litter is, he didn’t stick around. All the wrinkles and excess skin makes us think his dad could have been a Shar Pei or Mastiff. Dwight requires a physically fenced yard so he can safely run and play. His new family needs to be committed to continuing to work with him and training him using positive reinforcement. Dwight is microchipped, dewormed, and has had the first of three required distemper/parvo boosters. His adopters will be responsible for his last two distemper/parvo boosters and his rabies vaccine at 16 weeks. He will be neutered on May 13th and will be ready to go to his new home on May 15th. If you would like to meet these puppies, please complete the adoption application on our website: www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about the puppies you can contact rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.  Indoor homes only.  Adoption fee $400.

Story
Ruby was surrendered to us from a puppy mill. She is too small to be bred. Her back is very short. We do have an xray on her just for a baseline. Part of her adoption Will be that she is required to stay on mandatory insurance. Because of her tiny build, she will be at a higher risk for IVDD and we want to ensure that the treatment would be covered, Should that ever happen to her. Her new family will also have to be very mindful of her back and use dog stairs and keep her from flying off furniture. For this reason alone, we are saying no small children eight years and up, please She is completely fine with children of all ages. We just want to minimize any risk of her getting injured. Ruby is an absolute doll and is still very much a puppy She loves other dogs and loves to play. She absolutely loves to chew things and her new family will need to provide her with proper two toys and be mindful of what is left on the floor. She ignores cats and is fully housebroken. She uses a dog door right now and sleeps in a crate at night. She will bark a little bit at first, and then she settles down and goes to bed. We would prefer her go to home with other dogs as she absolutely needs a fur sibling. Ruby is spayed, up-to-date on all of her shots and micro chipped and will also come with her back x-ray and insurance that we will transfer to her new adopters. She is fostered in Sioux City
