Story
Mac is not your average pup—he's a one-year-old blend of brains and energy, with the strength and smarts of a German Shepherd and the playful spirit of a Black Lab. With his sleek black coat, alert ears, and a wagging tail that never quits, Mac is full of life and ready for almost anything.Mac is up and ready to go from the moment the sun rises. Whether it’s chasing a ball through the yard, exploring a wooded trail, or hopping into the nearest creek, this boy lives for adventure. His favorite days are the ones that end with muddy paws and wet fur—he loves the water. Before you can blink, lakes, rivers, even the backyard sprinkler—Mac’s in it.Mac isn’t just high-energy; he’s got a heart of gold. He bonds quickly with people and especially shines around older children who can keep up with his fun-loving nature. He’s the dog who will race alongside your bike, curl up by your feet after a long hike, or leap happily into the car for a spontaneous road trip.Mac is looking for a home that matches his spirit, someone who’s active, outdoorsy, and ready to share life’s adventures with a loyal companion. If you’re searching for a dog who will be your partner in crime, your splash buddy, and your best friend, Mac might be the one.May 9, 2025, 1:53 am

Story
Miley is a 6-year-old dachshund mix whose world was turned upside down when her beloved owner passed away. Since then, this gentle girl has been searching for a safe place—and a kind heart—to call home.At first, Miley may seem a little shy. She’s been through a lot and needs some time to feel safe. You’ll likely find her curled up quietly in her kennel, watching the world from a distance until she knows she can trust you. Although Miley may initially seem hesitant, her personality becomes evident once she feels more comfortable.Miley is a loving and loyal companion. Whether you’re settling in for a night of binge-watching your favorite show or enjoying a quiet afternoon with a good book, Miley will be right by your side, content just to be near you. She’s calm, cuddly, and happiest when sharing space with someone who loves her.She gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a canine buddy, though she thinks of herself as the Queen Bee when given the chance! Miley hasn’t had much experience with cats or children, so we’re unsure how she would do in those situations. One thing to know about Miley—she’s got a strong little bark and isn’t afraid to use it when she thinks something might be a threat. It’s her way of keeping you safe; she takes that job seriously. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who will be by your side through thick and thin, Miley could be your perfect dog. With patience and kindness, she’ll blossom into the sweet, devoted friend you’ve been waiting for.Meet Miley—she’s ready to start her next chapter with you.May 9, 2025, 1:53 am

Story
Smokey is an energetic, loving dog excited to be around people. He just had his 8th birthday but you never would’ve guessed it. Only having three legs may have made him faster. He’s very picky about who he makes animal friends with, so use caution when introducing him to new pets. When it comes to human friends though, he hasn’t met one he hasn’t liked (licked). Wiggle-butt isn’t his nickname for no reason. Smokey is not the dog to have if you don’t want to make new friends. He will get his daily pets from strangers whether you like it or not. He is crate trained, potty trained, and does well on a leash and in a car. He loves walks and play time and is happiest after a long day of activity. Sit, stay, shake, and lay down are all a part of his vocabulary. A home with no other pets would be his preference but he’s shared his space with others in the past. His perfect home would have space to roam and an owner able to keep his pace.

Story
Silo is 7 years old and due to not having a job and health issues I am unable to continue to care for her. She was given to me from a friend and that friends relative adopted her from another shelter. She is up to date on her shots, spayed and microchipped. Can provide vet records when a home is found. Would like for her to go to a good home. She is an inside dog. She is potty trained and needs a loving home.

Story
Meet Axel, a 7 1/2 year old purebred orange & white male brittany.  Axel loves other dogs & kids, but definitely no cats. He has a high prey drive and needs a steady job.  He would love the opportunity to hunt.  He is not gun shy and has excellent recall.   He must have a home with a lot of land. A working farm would be perfect for him.  He needs a lot of daily exercise and to be kept busy.  Axel is an escape artist and requires a privacy fence of at least 6' high.  He is an expert at escaping and considers it a great game.  Since he does have great recall, he comes back once called. However, he must be supervised when he's outside. This is why a lot of land, and away from roads, is important.  Axel is well socialized and will do anything you ask of him. He is very sweet, but driven and needs an outlet for his energy. He loves to be outside and is very goofy.  Like most bird dogs, he is not great on a leash, but does excellent on a long lead.  He is crate trained and should be crated when left alone.  He tends to get into mischief, especially if not highly exercised. Axel is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He is located in northwestern GA and is available for transport up to 1400 miles, with the adopter driving the last 100 miles to pick him up.  His adoption fee is $350.  If you are interested in adopting Axel, please submit an adoption application at www.nbran.org and mention his name. Also, feel free to reach out to jessica@thesouthernway.com with any questions.May 8, 2025, 8:42 pm
