Story
This gorgeous girl is aptly named Potato due to her spud-like physique. Potato is estimated to be around 12 years old and she came to us after her elderly owner was no longer able to take care of her. Potato is currently a hefty 45 lbs and she's on a diet to get to a healthy weight. Potato is used to having someone home most of the day, so she would greatly benefit from an adopter who is retired or works from home. She loves her people greatly and experiences some separation anxiety when she is left alone. Potato is fostered with children and other dogs and does great. She's a chunky girl who loves her food and would benefit from being separated while feeding (so she doesn't try to fight for her fur siblings' food)!  House trained: She's working on it. She's sleeping through the night without accidents. She does need to be let out often to ensure she doesn't have accidents.Leash trained: Yes. She loves going on walks! She'll get excited if we pass other dogs and try to go towards them. But she really doesn't move to fast and she's easy to control.Kennel trained: No - she does not like her kennel, but she's not destructive.Rides well in a car: Yep, she's happy to go on car rides.Good with other dogs: Yes. There have been a couple of scuffles over food dishes, so adopter will just need to make sure to pick up dishes after meal time to avoid issues if they have other dogs. I don't think she necessarily needs to go to a home with another dog.Good with cats: Not fostered with cats, but we think she'd do fine.Good with young children (under 10): Yes, she's fostered with kids under 5 Shy or confident: Confident. She's not shy with visitors and will approach them for attention.Barks: Yes, if "her person" has left. If "her person" is with her, she's as quiet as a mouseApartment qualified: No due to separation anxiety barking Special needs or health concerns: Potato recently had a dental cleaning and senior bloodwork. Everything looks age-appropriate! She might have some diminished hearing but it doesn't impact her day-to-day. ##2498024##

Story
Lexi is a young pitbull with an estimated birthday in December 2024. She originally came to us from a family member who could no longer keep her, and while we've loved fostering her since July, we know she needs a home that can give her the time and structure she deserves. Lexi is a total lovebug. She adores kisses, cuddles, walks, playtime, and bones. She's done wonderfully with our toddler nephew, enjoys playing with dogs, and is extremely smart, picking up new training quickly. Like many pups her age, she's still learning: she can be pushy with other dogs' bones and personal space which has led to scuffles almost every time, may get into mischief if bored by getting into things she shouldn't, and will break out of wire crates if she doesn't feel safe. She hasn't lived with cats but will try to chase them outside while on walks. With the right family who can give her consistency and attention, Lexi will reward you with endless love, loyalty, and laughter.

Story
Kijani Plott hound mix Spayed female 5 years old, 60 pounds   Kijani’s gorgeous coat and infectious grin give you an exterior glimpse of what lies within this sweetie. Her owner has given her years of love and good care, but knows her spirited nature now calls for a home with someone who can keep pace.   Daily leash walks have halted due to the owner’s mobility, but Kijani still enjoys ample yard time each day and handles being left alone up to five hours during the school year. In a new home, she’d welcome resuming regular outings to satisfy those hound-dog instincts.   Bright and eager to learn, Kijani knows “sit,” “stay,” and “shake,” and she’ll even fetch slippers on command. She’s house-trained and crate-accustomed (though she now roams freely indoors).   Kijani does startle with loud noises like vacuums or lawn mowers—so a few precautions before beginning noisy chores sure help. She does best on a salmon-based food to keep her digestion on track.   She’s a regular playmate at doggie daycare and adores her owner’s 14 grandchildren. Her reaction to cats isn’t known, so intros should be handled appropriately. Microchipped for extra security, she’s ready to explore new worlds with the right applicant. And we do allow people to foster her prior to adoption to ensure the perfect fit.   Application to foster or adopt available at nebraskanokill.org Suggested adoption donation: $300.00  August 30, 2025, 7:41 pm
