Adopting a American Bulldog

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an American Bulldog - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

You can adopt an American Bulldog at a much lower cost than buying one from a breeder. The cost of adopting an American bulldog is around $300, which covers the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. In contrast, buying American Bulldogs from breeders can be prohibitively expensive. Depending on their breeding, they usually cost anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000.

The easiest way to adopt an American Bulldog is through a rescue that specializes in American Bulldogs. A great place to start is by starting a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available American Bulldogs in your area.

American Bulldog fun facts

Fun Facts:

The American Bulldog was almost extinct by the end of World War II, but thanks to two impassioned fellows; John Johnson and Alan Scott brought the breed back to life, and basically every American Bulldog today can be traced back to both of their lines.

When feral pigs were introduced to the States, they had no natural predators so local bulldogs, which eventually became known as American Bulldogs, were used to help farms control them. To this day, the breed still hunts feral pigs and catches escaped pigs

American Bulldogs have large litters (up to 11 puppies) and as such usually deliver by C-section.
