Pets at Our Shelter:
Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:
The Cat House is a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Lincoln, Nebraska. We are a limited admission feline-only shelter. We began operations in 1998 to provide an alternative to traditional shelters. We only euthanize for pain and suffering, never to make space for more adoptable cats. We are an all-volunteer group, with no paid staff. We rent shelter facility, in addition to space at our local PetsMart. We exist entirely on adoption fees and donations. If you would like to adopt a cat, please see either the cats listed at this website or at our website. If you would like to donate to help pay the rent or the utilities, you may do so by credit card via Pay Pal on our website or send a check to our address. Local volunteers are always needed and welcomed. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out an application on our website.
Come Meet our Pets:
Our adoption center is open Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 - 4:00. We are located at 1935 Q street, Lincoln Nebraska. We also have cats available at PetsMarts 5200 N. 27th St location in Lincoln.
Our Adoption Process:
Our adoption process consists of completion of an application, followed by an interview. All applications and interview results are reviewed by our board. An adoption contract is completed at the time of adoption. Our adoption fee is currently $100 for kittens under 8 months old and $80 for cats 8 months to 7 years old If the cat is age 7 or older or considered to have special needs, or if the adopter is age 60 or older, the fee is reduced to $60. The fee for the second or subsequent cat or kitten adopted at the same time or within three months is half the usual amount. All cats and kittens have been spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia virus, microchipped, and are up-to-date on rabies and RCP ("distemper") vaccinations. To help facilitate adoptions we adopt only within a 200 radius from of Lincoln Nebraska and we cannot ship cats.
